Is that price on a contract, or can I buy an iPhone 4 for that price, and use any sim without having to sign any contracts? IE PAYG sim of my own.
We're talking PAYG at that price. Not sure whether it will be unlocked. Personally, I suspect not.

This is totally ironic:

1. We've had no sleep
2. We're celebrating something being down
3. In a few minutes a lot of us are going to be £400-£500 down.
4. We're going to end up with a device that runs exactly the same software our existing phones do.

Here's to the crazy ones! 🙂

Dear Kate,

Here's to the crazy ones.
The misfits. The rebels.
The troublemakers. The round
pegs in the square holes - the
ones who see things differently.
They're not fond of rules and
they have no respect for
the status quo. You can praise
them, disagree with them,
quote them, disbelieve them,
glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing that you
can't do is ignore them.
Because they change things.

Take care,
John Appleseed

Reminds me of the McD's adverts 🙁

Well, I'm up for work as of 6:30am and the Apple Store website is down for maintenance with the little We'll Be Back Soon post-it note.

Our questions are all about to be answered.

They won't take the funds today, so if you have a credit card where the funds are at least available, you'll be ok. 🙂

I don't understand that ... if they're "reserving" the money, surely it'll be taken from your balance and be put into "holding" until the iPhone 4 is shipped?

I'm not buying mine until July 23rd anyway, so by then I'll hopefully be ok to walk into the Apple Store and just buy one.

Currently on train to Edinburgh checking Apple Store on iPad.

As nothing is happening, I'm going to punctuate said checking with an episode of Partridge.

Jurassic Park.

Brilliant, thanks. 🙂 So I can use my own sim with a payg iPhone 4? You can tell Im a newbie, never owned an iPhone before you see.

I guess Jailbreaking it would unlock?

See my edited post. Some think it will be unlocked, I'm not so sure.

If O2 continue with their existing policy, you'll be able to get one of their PAYG handsets unlocked for £15.

Jailbreaking is not the same thing as unlocking, but is usually a preparatory step towards it. With recent iPhones Jailbreaking has been possible (and very easy) but unlocking is another matter. Things could change.

Jailbreaking it doesn't unlock it. Unlocking is done by Apple. They have all the IMEI numbers in their database. When you sync an iPhone using iTunes and it calls the mothership (Apple), that decides if it's locked or not.

The only method of unlocking so far, after jailbreaking is software to prevent the iPhone syncing it's status with Apple iniTunes. Not a satisfctory state of afairs. It was the only method at one time till it could be done legit.

They don't take the money until the iPhone is shipped.

They merely make sure that the funds will be available (either from a credit or debit balance) when they ask for them.

Ok guys, thanks, so let me get this right. I can buy an iPhone 4 from say, O2 in the UK, and ask them to unlock it, and pay an additional £15GBP to unlock it, then get my friend to ship it to me here in Finland, where I will then be fine to use my existing PAYG sim card with it, and it will work fine with itunes etc?

Sorry for the newbie q's, but while we wait, I thought I would double check with you guys.
