How is this going to work? Half the networks haven't even released tariffs yet and none of their websites are down/updating for pre-orders, only Apple Store UK. I would like to pre-order through Apple but don't know how it will work with regards to choosing a carrier etc

Hi all. First time, weary-eyed poster! Going to be a long couple of hours ahead I reckon!!

Just a quick question. I have 7 months left on an 18 month, £35/month contract with O2 on the 3GS 32GB. I understand I can pay the equivalent of £20 x 7 to cancel the remainder of my exisiting contract in order to take out a new one on the iphone 4, but what is the best thing for me to do if I want to go PAYG? Can I purchase it from Apple directly still & just keep my existing contract going, or will I need to buy from O2? And would I still then need to pay the £140 'get out' amount?

Many thanks in advance.

I believe the option to finish an O2 contract early at £20 a month is on the proviso that you take out another contract with them at the same time.

EDIT: If you want PAYG you do like I did with the 3GS last year. Grin and bear it and continue to pay your contract off and buy a PAYG. Stick the sim in the PAYG. When the contract is up stick two fingers up at O2.

We don't know if the carrier will allow unlock immediately if they are not already unlocked. With O2 it was 6 months before they allowed you to unlock. But it was also the time O2 lost exclusivity with the iPhone.

Thanks, still a little weary then. Need to find out for sure that I wil be able to use my own PAYG Sim.

Buy an O2 PAYG model from Apple and use your existing sim to see out your contract. No penalty to pay.

It's never that simple. A few weeks ago when we got iPads, we went all through this. Credit cards get a pre-authorisation, just to see if your good for it. My debit card (Visa) got deducted there and then and it vanished out of my account. Three days later (It was weekend) it returned. Then a day before I received the iPad it was finally taken for good.

Ah, so they do eventually take it before shipping ... makes sense now.

I thought a simple check to see if the funds were there without actually taking them until shipping was a bit stupid.

Hey there. Your in a similar situation to myself!

My understanding after getting advice from here is that we can purchase a O2 PAYGO iPhone 4 from Apple and shove our cut down sim or replaced sim with a micro sim.

I hope that a PAYGO is available from day one. It has to be though because what are Apple going to put on there website.

Am I correct in thinking I can order the phone from apple today and just purchase an iPhone simplicity plan from O2 separately? I really don't want the worry of trying to get the phone on the release day.

Thanks for the reply. So is PAYG not a realistic option for my circumstances, and if it is, would I still need to pay the £140?

My iPad was shipped and being tracked before they too the cash. I suspect if the cash hadn't been there it wouldn't have turned up.

Yes.

That would be my preference then, just need to hope the prices aren't ridiculous now!

Do what I'm doing. Buy it on Pay and Go and put your contract sim in to it. No get out clause because you are still paying your contract. This is actually an option O2 have said publicly on the iPhone 4 site (OPTION 2 HERE)

The £140 would be to end your contract early. They let you do that as long as you sign the next 18/24 month contract. Drawback is your in the same or worse position this time next year.

If I was to pre-order the iPhone 4 for in-store pickup would have have to pay on the web or when I actually pick it up? Thanks.

There has been no solid confirmation if pre-order and pickup instore is even available yet. Mixed opinions. Let alone when it's paid for.

Probably pay on collection with a condition that it should be picked up by a certain time.

IIRC this is what they did in the USA.
