Ok, thanks so far for everyones help, but I need to get this right.

Here's want I want to do.

Simply buy an iPhone 4, no contact, no plan, nothing. I wish to use my own sim card which is a payg sim card that I am more than happy with.

Can someone talk me through the process of what I need to do in order to do just this please? Thanks in advance.

i think you've basically said it..

buy the payg phone... cut your current sim card to make it micro sim size..(various methods, but i've ordered a sim cutter from cutmysim.com) and you should be good to go 🙂

Order a pay&go iPhone through Apple or your carrier and then phone your network and ask for a micro-sim replacement of your current sim. OR you can cut your current sim down to size 🙂.

1. Buy Phone
2. Cut existing sim card to correct size
3. Insert sim card into iPhone 4
4. Switch on 😉

First thing is find out if Apple sell the phone unlocked. If not then either buy a PAYG iPhone on the same carrier as your own sim is or buy one from another and get it unlocked. What is unknown at the moment is if it can be unlocked or not straight away. Might know that information in the next few hours.

Ok, excellent, thanks. Im in Finland you see, and plan on getting a friend to buy me an iPhone 4 from his local Apple Store, then ship it to me you see.

i will be starting work at lunch-time today.

ps - are all you guys pre-ordering or are some of you, like me, waiting to see the black and white in the flesh before deciding? if i was to pre-order via o2 or apple and select black, and then change my mind and ask them for white before launch, do you think they would change my order?

Not quite. If Apple has 'reserved' the funds your card wouldn't work for the new tv (as far as I know, but I'm not a credit card expert).

Hotels do this all the time as the standard policy is that the guest pays on check out.

As you don't want to check in someone in for say 5 nights at £200 per night only to find at the end of the stay that they can't pay for it. So you get authorisation from the guest credit card or bank on check in for £1000. The amount is not added to the customers credit card bill or taken from the bank account its just ear marked and the credit card company or bank just reduces the guests spending limit by £1000.

The client comes to check out and pay his bill that £1000 is yours. The problem is if you get authorisation and never use it or cancel the transaction. Then it can take a while before the guest can get his full spending limit back.

Ok, thanks, thats the thing I need to find out, as Im on DNA here in Finland, so need to make sure its either unlocked, or will accept my sim, I have no problems cutting my sim to fit, as I have already got a cutter at the ready 🙂

Thanks again.!

That's looking like my preferred option. I assume there won't be a cost for the micro sim from O2, even if you purchase the handset directly from Apple?

Not sure, but they wont have them to see in the flesh until launch anyway so you wont have any luck trying to see one in the flesh before launch.

There won't be any difference in price between the PAYG iPhone and Simplicity phone cost right?

If so I will just buy PAYG from Apple and then stick in a Simplicity sim card.

Jeez guys, I go to bed for 6 hours and I have another 10 pages of this thread to sift through (good job it was mostly useless crap! 😉 ).

Looks like I just got up in time...very excited!

Looks like it will probably be 8am, like the Apple Chat person told me.

8am works out a midnight in America, so it's probably right.
