What this thread needs more of is people checking the websites of every single company even tangentially related to the release of the iPhone 4 in the UK, every two minutes, and posting back here, also every two minutes, as to the status of said website.

Thanks for volunteering 😉

And yet they don't take down every single store around the world if there's an update to, say, the US store only, or the UK store only.

Maybe they aren't all on the same servers then... maybe for example the US is on the same servers as some other countries, and UK as maybe the rest of Europe etc. so they just take down all stores so that there isn't like some random countries with access and others without...

Random q...why does apple need to take down all of their stores? and not just the ones they're updating?
Unless they really are trying to do a coordinated world wide release, in which case we wont be getting it until 11:00am because that's when it's today all over the USA (Hawaii being the limiting factor I think). I can't think that's likely though because on launch day they can't really expect to coordinate it like this with wanting to stick to shop opening hours otherwise Japan wouldn't be able to buy the phone until 7pm (or thereabouts, my calculations might be off by an hour or so). Then again, this is Apple, so you never know.

What with orange delaying pre orders last night and telling staff to keep checking the orange iPhone 4 interest page, and now apparently o2 delaying prices, this is making me think no one is allowed to show prices till apple does 🙁

If im not interested in PAYG and only contract pre-orders, more specifically, Upgrades... is there any point of me waiting for anything here this morning?

Think so, what I am going to be doing is adding a second line to my account.. however you can upgrade via the my.o2 online.

This is weirder for the Japanese. It's coming up to 5pm in Japan and still nothing presumably. Given that all countries are affected, so people like Germany and France, not to mention Japan, are well into their working day, I don't think there is any significance whatsoever to UK 9am in Apple's timing to get the stores back up. I very much doubt that any of the networks are allowed by Apple to go live before the Apple store itself does.
