We'll find out when these tariffs go up on their online store. My guess is that it is a magical and revolutionary figure in excess of 60 minutes.

I LOL'd 😛

If £500 really is the PAYG price, that isn't really too bad when you consider that the 3GS had a price increase of £100 over the 3G and they didn't even lower the price of the 3G, they just kept it the same and made the 3GS more expensive.

The fact that the entry level price for an iPhone (the 8GB 3GS) is now over £400 might put some off though.

Hi all - long time lurker first time poster!

Could someone just confirm what the differnce is, if any, between buying a sim free iphone from Apple and getting one unlocked by 02 (assuming they continue to offer this).

I appreciate that if you were on PAYG you had to pay £15 and lost your one year free wifi bolt on, but I was under the impression that if unlocked by 02, you could only use one of the UK operators i.e Orange, Vodaphone etc.

Whereas with the sim free phone phone now being sold by apple, you could use ANY operator e.g Virgin or even say AT&T.

Is that correct or am I mistaken?

Many thanks

I really don't want to order with Apple if they don't have any white ones. I want two - one white and one black, there's no way I'm paying £50 for two silicone/rubber bumpers just to tell whose is whose!

can i pre order as a contract upgrade? or am i going to have to queue at a store on launch ? i cant find an option anywhere. Im with o2

I preordered to reserve and collect a contract phone from the Apple Store. Ive also checked out o2's site and they state that Apple are participating in the Early Upgrade offer in-store so it should be fine.

IMO, there's no point buying from a network if they're locked, you're better off buying the iPhone 4 then getting your own normal SIM and cutting it down to micro SIM size, you get a much better deal if you do that.

BTW people, the Apple site says "iPhone may also be available at a reduced initial price with a contract directly from your wireless carrier" which kinda suggests the PAYG price won't be reduced.

Unlocked is the same as SIM free. O2 don't do the unlocking. Apple do that for them.

Actually she is correct. You CAN buy the phone from Apple then get a simplicity contract, or sim-only contract, from any of the providers and pay £35 a month... This means you don't have to be tied into a 18 or 24 month contract with the provider, because you don't have to pay off the cost of the phone

If you do choose a iPhone contract through a provider, of course, the price will be significantly lower.

Ah, yes, true! But I got the impression the customer was pretty specifically asking about subsidised prices. Clearly just crossed wires there.

Those Apple online chat agents are really trying to push the bumpers though aren't they? It seems like every single question they answer involves the phrase "We also have some new case designs called bumpers available".

Kind of like some dodgy bloke in a pub trying to sell some speakers...

Do apple take the money out of your account straight away when you pre-order or when they ship?

Ive pre-ordered but if o2 or even the white model becomes available closer to the 24th release i may cancel.

If you have pre-ordered there is a cancel link if you look on your Apple account. At some point before ship that will grey out and it's then too late to cancel. Thats supposing it's the same as the iPad ordering was. The money came out of my account after they had shipped.

Just off an apple chat and they told me the money comes out when they start to ship which can be 5-7 days before the 24th

Those of you who have done a Reserve & Pick-Up of PAYG or sim-free phones - What do you expect will happen 'on the day' at the store?

Are our iPhones definitely reserved? E.g. If they sell out at midday and I turn up to collect at 4pm, will mine still be there waiting?

yup, defo pumping those bumpers!

just out of interest, for those who have ordered, did you order a bumper also? which colour did you go for? I went for Black as it ships the same day, but i kinda wanted a Red one. (Why no Red Apple?)

Black iPhone with black bumper hmm, gf will prob get a white one in the next few months and she can get the white bumper and we can swap. 😛

The apple site says that they keep your phone till the end of the working day on launch day... so I assume they do actually save you one.

The small print states there's no guarantee. I guess it depends on how busy the store gets.

I would suggest phoning them early morning and confirming you'll be down later.

Personally I'm getting there first thing as its right near work.

yeah - i'm in the same boat. does this mean that as long as i turn up and pay before close of business on 24/6, i will have one set aside for me no matter what?

I think it's ridiculous that Apple put the prices up EVERY time they release a new iPhone. Seriously, the 8GB iPhone 3Gs is only £30 cheaper than the 16GB one was.
