I've ordered a 32gb but I'm not sure if I'll actually have it yet. I defiately want one asap but if I can get the price down a bit I will.

Why the hell are the networks taking so long to put their sites up for pre-order/upgrade?

Two possible reasons: Apple want first dibs on sales and they're also playing chicken with each other to see who tips their hand first.

Also possible: waiting until their staff have had their lunch, to ensure maximum numbers to handle calls.

PS I'm joking about call-centre staff getting lunch breaks.

I think it's ridiculous that Apple put the prices up EVERY time they release a new iPhone. Seriously, the 8GB iPhone 3Gs is only £30 cheaper than the 16GB one was.

In a few years the cheapest iphone will only be affordable for steve jobs and bill gates... but gates won't buy one cuz he'll have a windows 9 mobile edition phone 😛

I just don't get why they are no pre-ordering the iPhone 4 in white?

It was the colour I wanted now not sure if I will wait and get it or not?

There must be a reason behind there madness surely? They have been ,made as the hands on from Engadget was with a white one so it wasn't as if they haven't even made them etc.

Just amazes my why nothing was said at the launch?

I suppose that both are likely reasons. I just wish they'd hurry up.

Right.
Sorry if this keeps getting asked. I don't know much about the Simplicity stuff from O2. I've been with the 18month contracts for years.

So, say I buy an iPhone 4 from the Apple website right now, would I then sign up for a Simplicity 30d/12m tariff? Do I do that on the O2 website? Would O2 then send me a Microsim...?

Is the Simplicity option better than an 18month contract? I always hate the idea of been tied down for so long.. Also, it shows you get more mins and data for less £££'s...

Because my 18month contract ended last Feb I could do this and then ask for the PAC code and transfer my number?

Why can't this be simple.
Seems to me the Americans get it easy, one Network, can all be done on the Apple website etc.
We're crap. Hm!

Yay! Just managed to get my order for a 16GB through!

Had it in my basket since this morning, and even though the store has been up and down, I have managed to go back into my basket and complete the order process.

Just printed off the confirmation page and waiting on the mail now.

😀

Right lads ... I've been crafty.

I've e-mailed three different stores to ask what the arrangements are regarding the Reserve & Pick-Up. I'm trying to find out if our iPhones are reserved no matter what, and whether we can turn up any time on the 24th to collect and have guaranteed availability.

I'll let you know when I receive the responses.

Ive reserved mine at Buchanan Street, Glasgow.

I work down in Dumfries everyday though but offices are in Eurocentral, so im basing myself at work that day and will nip into Glasgow at lunchtime to pick it up.

Will I have to join the big queue to pick it up or will I be able to walk right in and get it?

I added a bumper to my original order and it said delivery would be 25th rather than 24th so I cancelled that order and made another with just the iPhone 4..

I've since checked my bank account online and they've taken payment for both - down nearly £1100 🙁 lol

Wonder how long they'll take to reimburse me!

All those moaning about it being expensive...it's sim free, sim free handsets are always dear. Check out how much play.com sell the 3GS sim free for..

I paid nearly £600 for a 16GB 3G sim free when they came out. that was from italy via ebay.

I think Apple get the same amount of money whether you buy from them or the networks tbh - otherwise it would only be available from Apple!

Thing is, Orange and t-mobile are one company, so they aren't competing, so its really between Vodafone and Orange/Tmob. (Three are there too, but I think they'll do their own thing anyway). Vodafone's prices have already leaked, so if Orange/tmob want to undercut they should just do it!

I don't think we'll hear from any of them about handset prices until very close or on the 24th. Sucks for us, but it seems like the networks have decided that we need higher prices, more restrictions and less information 🙄

i reckon that the only explanation can be that there is some sort of technical issue with the white.

why? because given white will never sell as many units as black apple would have wanted to offer it on launch day to cream the biggest no. of impulse-buyers. it's also a talking-point so they wouldn't have wanted to steal their own thunder.

ps - although i wanted a bumper i just couldn't bring myself to get ripped off for £25 (£25 apple - you've outdone yourselves here Jobs!) to get hold of their little piece of rubber. To be honest they should include one in the box - what, it must cost them a few pence to produce...love Apple's products....hate Apple's greedy business practices.

+1 Awesome crafty fox-ness 🙂

so you cant preorder the iPhone4 in white but the only images of the bumper cases are in white. That makes perfect sense 😛

They have probably just authorised the payments... when you make a purchase online they check with your bank to make sure you have the funds and then your bank put the money aside so you can't spend it. Apple won't actually process the transaction until tomorrow at the earliest.
If you phone your bank they should be able to cancel the holding on the first payment.

When you purchase your iPhone from the Apple Online Store, you’ll get it SIM-free. So you can sign up for service with the carrier of your choice and change your carrier at any time.
It’s not cheap, mind you: £499/16GB and £599/32GB in the UK, and €629/16GB and €739/32GB in France. Canada will also have the SIM-free option but won’t be offering the iPhone until July.

http://www.tipb.com/2010/06/15/apple-selling-simfree-unlocked-international-iphones/

.....That's a lot of cash. Might wait till my Hong Kong visit late July and see if they are cheaper. Usually more like USA prices there...

£599 = US$885.
€739 = US$907
In the US Apple store, the 32GB is only $299! That is a massive difference!!

EDIT: Sorry just saw the US store is in contract only. Jumped the gun. OOPS

But Are They Really Unlocked???

Don't want to start any scaremongering, but I've just had a thought...

AFAIK all iPhones are sold unlocked and always have been - it's just when you insert a network operator's SIM and activate the phone through iTunes that it gets permanently locked to that network.

So it's possible that when Apple say the new phones are being sold unlocked that what they mean is that you have the choice to decide which network you go with - but once you activate it, the phone will become locked.

If you think about it, from a logistics point of view that makes it easy for Apple to deal with sales if they do start offering PAYG phones as they won't have to have stocks of each phone locked to each operator.

So maybe the prices we're seeing ARE the PAYG prices, rather than permanently unlocked prices? I know that everyone's interpreting these prices as being completely unlocked at the moment, but is there anything on the Apple site that would blow my theory out of the water?
