O2 have no free internet for PAYG, you have to top up every month if you want that.

I'd rather have FREE 250MB data than have to pay every month for 500MB from O2.

Just have to wait and see. Im sure i saw 12mths free web and wifi with a 500mb cap, mentioned on the Apple iP4 reservation page.

O2 have unlimited internet with simplicity tariffs which works out cheaper than Orange

No, on PAYG they make you top-up each month to get free internet, whereas Orange just has 12 months free internet whether or not you top-up every single month.

For someone like me, who uses the phone mostly for internet (I talk to people via e-mail more than text, for example), Orange's plan is a much better deal.

Quick calulations:

32gb iPhone on Orange - £35pm for 24 months + £219 = £1069

32gb iPhone from Apple - £20pm for 24 months (simplicity) + £599 = £1079

Orange win. (providing you dont mind a locked iphone - i don't).

Well so far I'm liking the look of the Orange 24 month £35 tariff. Looks like they are really trying to push the 24 month tariffs now though compared to the 18 months.

I think O2 have certainly lost a customer here... just waiting on Vodafone now and possibly three/t-mobile

I depends on how you use your phone, I just signed up for 12 month O2 simplicity with unlimited internet, texts and 300 minutes for £15 a month which works out much better than Orange even if they do offer free internet.

yea, but you're tied into a 2 year contract!!!

i'd pay that £10 extra to be contract free!

On the HD video point, my Flip which records at 720p in what I think is the same h.264 compression format gets 1 hour of video on it's 2gb of memory.

When is the last date we can get that simplicity offer with unlimited data? I know it's somewhere in this thread but I've spent the last hour and a half searching to no avail.

WTF Orange?!?! no unlimited texting unless you sign up for 2 years?!??!
F*** you Orange, i was going to go with them as well but not a chance with those tariffs.

I don't like getting tied up in any contracts, so I stay PAYG myself.

How do you know this for sure until o2 releases any details. I had free 12 months of web and wifi on the o2 PayGo 3gs .

Actually, if you want to do 24months on simplicity for iPhone is £15 per month.. - £120 cheaper

I had 12 months free on my 3GS too, but look at the iPhone 4 tariffs on O2's site, it says you need to top up every month for 500MB internet.

Pay & Go tariffs

You may know this, but you don't need a monthly contract to get an iPhone. You can buy an iPhone on Pay & Go from our online shop. Or from any O2 shop, Apple Store or, The Carphone Warehouse from 24 June onwards.

If you're already on Pay & Go with O2 and buying the iPhone 4, you'll need to transfer your existing O2 number, balance and tariff onto the new micro sim. We'll tell you how to do this soon.

New to O2 and want to keep your number?
If you're new to O2, you can switch to O2 and keep your number. Just call your network and ask for a PAC code. Then give it to us when you buy your iPhone or tell us online when your iPhone arrives. It takes about two working days after that to move the number over. We'll give you a temporary number so you can start using your iPhone in the meantime. After that your old sim won't work, so make sure you've moved all your contacts and listened to your voicemails before you fill in the form.

Text and Web for iPhone
When you first get your new iPhone, it'll be on our Text & Web tariff. From 1 October 2010, Text & Web will include unlimited Wi-Fi. Excessive usage policy and terms apply, see o2.co.uk.

The more you top up, the more texts you'll get:

* Top up £10-£14. Get 300 texts and 500MB internet
* Top up £15-£29. Get 500 texts and 500MB internet
* Top up £30 or more. Get unlimited texts and 500MB internet

You can switch tariffs once a month, though. See the other tariffs

What he said..

I don't mind paying £10 just to stay on my simplicity. Which over 18 months, I get 1200 texts rather than Orange 500 texts. Also means I can get iPhone 5 if I want to next year

A question for someone who doesn't quite get it.....

I'm on an 18th month 3gs O2 contract (got on launch day)....its going to cost me £100 for the early upgrade plus the handset cost which will tie me into another 18 or 24 month contract.

Am I right in understanding that I can buy a PAYG O2 handset, and get O2 to swap my contract details to a microsim and continue to pay my existing months of my contract, and that that'll just continue on a month to month contract with my current terms (unlimited data etc) so I wont be tied in next year when the inevitable Iphone 5 will be out. So I dont have to bother with an early upgrade fee next year and get to keep unlimited data?

O2's upgrade blurb says:

"If you are going to use your existing Pay Monthly sim in iPhone 4, please ensure you Contact Us to transfer to an iPhone tariff if you are not already on one. Or you can use the Pay & Go Text & Web sim you will be provided with"

I'm assuming I am currently on an iphone tariff so this is fine, or does it mean they'll switch me to one of the "new" iphone tariffs with the limited data?

Advice muchly appreciated!

You can just buy a PAYG O2 phone and get a new micro SIM for your contract, it will work fine. Then you can continue paying your monthly contract until the 18 months is up, and switch at that point to a Simplicity tariff until next year's iPhone comes out. I was mid contract with a 3G when the 3GS came out and did exactly that. I sold the 3G which covered some of the cost of the 3GS, and switched to Simplicity when the 18 months was up. I don't want another long contract so I will stay with Simplicity from now on I think - more freedom and overall about the same cost over 18 months anyway.

If you buy an O2 PAYG phone it will come with a PAYG SIM which you won't need to use. However it may have value because (assuming it's like last year) it includes a year's free data so you may be able to do something with it. However you won't be able to do what I did with mine last year - include it with the old phone when selling it.

Last year there was some confusion in O2 stores on launch day where some people were forced to put £10 on the PAYG SIM even if they were going to use their contract SIM with the PAYG phone. This was a misunderstanding and not necessary.

If you keep your current contract going then you should still have unlimited data. Does it matter though? Do you get anywhere near the caps they are introducing? I don't, as most heavy usage is on WiFi anyway.

You could get an iPhone 5 anyway in 12 months time. A 12 month old iPhone 4 is still going to be worth a considerable amount of cash. Worth 75-80% of the cost towards a new phone bought outright.

I may be slow but no where on there does it say you MUST top up per month to get data. My interpretation is ANYTIME you top up...you get those benefits

When you top up and O2 give you extra benefits, it lasts for a month, if you want said benefits again you have to top up again. That's how they've worked for years, and I don't see anything on that page to indicate that this is any different.
