I've just done some checking and it seems o2 doesn't have a set limit of data to be used, I was reading their FUP and it doesn't say anything specifically about a set limit i.e. 1GB/2GB. They just don't want you to stream stuff, use it excessively for data or use it in a commercial environment...

I might stick with 02 and lower my tariff to maybe 300 minutes and keep my unlimited txts and data.

Damn, they just need to bite the bullet and say their prices!

Also, like I suggested, I think that only networks will provide the white iPhone. I can see something horrible happening like that. Hello PAYG!

o2 reception sucks in my area - not starter.

Orange not offering sim only plan, as stated by Customer Services, only get micro sim through PAYG purchase or contract.

it's pretty good everywhere i need it to be (work etc) except my house, where i can't even get edge, but i use wifi so it's not an issue for me

£15pm for unlimited data, texts and 300 mins is more than enough for me. i never use 300 mins tbh, i'm a typical bloke on the phone - one word answers and grunts. even business colleagues know they'll get a more lucid answer from me via email :D

Plus I expect that most retail phone shops will have SIM cutters, too.

All i will say on the matter is there will be tears, and tantrums. The networks have made it clear that they are making a serious step to curb and control data abuse on their networks.

They will have clear reason, and justification to cut you off if you use a modified sim I want a professional, legal and responsible solution, not some gaffa tape fix. Enjoy.

Sims will be provided, for gawd sake - are networks going to just ignore the fact that the new iPhone needs a micro sim? Of course not, bide your time

While this is true the problem is going to be WHEN the networks get Microsims out the door.

I popped into our local O2 store yesterday to ask about this and they claim they should have Microsim's on the launch day and I can just drop by and get mine swapped. Note, SHOULD have. They freely admitted they're not sure what's going on yet so this could be a major problem for those looking to get their phones working on day of delivery.

There is a difference in making a profit and taking the chance away from someone else. It's called black market for a reason.

It's a free market!

So if get my Iphone 4 on Thursday morning, whats to stop me standing outside an Apple store and selling it for 10% more to someone who's desperate enough to pay it?

It's not a human right to buy an Apple product on launch day!

I agree 99% of the time on my travels, o2 has given a great reception on my iPhone. But as i spend a reasonable amount of time at home and work, where reception is poor, i can't remain with them. Just waiting on the why dont you move house, or change job replys. :p

If your mobile is crutial for work, and you do not want down time on your number, then you would appreciate wanting this known, and comfortably in place for the 24th. If you are a casual phone user, i can appreciate your position.

Me too, no way am i taking a knife to my sim card!

I was one of the first to order the iphone. I ordered at 9:30 am but i had the black bumper with it which delayed the delivery date. I cancelled the bumper to have the delivery date change to 24 but it didnt. So i was just wondering if someone else has the same case as mine!

Yes same from me, when i called up yesterday to cancel the bumper the apple guy said it would definitely arrive 24th even though my online status still said 25th he said it should update eventually. I checked this morning and it still hadn't changed so I called back but got routed to what sounded like a call centre in holland, the apple bod there said the order said it will be the 25th so that would be it but when I enquired further it seemed like they didn't have any idea how it may work seeing that I cancelled the stupid bumper. So I don't have a clue now if it will be the 24th or 25th my guess is it will turn up on the 24th would be nice to have it for launch day, not much more I can do about it so will just have to wait and see.

Agreed, however o2 have been sending micro sims out in a "pop outable shell" (sorry for the improvised term), for a good while now. I don't think there will be issues with Micro Sims come launch, I may be wrong.

This place has got bloody stupid, I'm a new member but have been reading for a long time. This is a PHONE we're talking about, grab some perspective folks - we'll soon have it (and then no doubt, be criticising it!)

p.s. - some of the tone on here is despicable, I know as well as anyone that "internetz = serious business" however, it's not so difficult to remain civil and leave the derision at the door - is it?

Little advice please...

Iv'e been on the 12month Simplicity deal since last October, got the Quidco £100 cash back deal. So £20 per month for 800min 1600texts and free bolt-on, I picked mobile web (unlimited).

Now its nearing the end of my 12months.
Is it true you can lower your existing deal to £15 per month and still get the unlimited web?
I dont care for the mins or text as i never use anywhere near that amount.

Also When did they start visual voicemail on the simplicity deal? i thought this didn't work only on Pay Monthly tariffs? Is this something I can turn on now?

thanks in advance.

If you have completed your 12 month contract I don't see how O2 can stop you from picking any other contract you want.

This is straight from the O2 website:
http://shop.o2.co.uk/tariffs/simplicity/iphone/12_months

"Already got an iPhone and just looking for an iPhone tariff?
Choose one of our great value sim only tariffs for iPhone
Includes unlimited texts, web and Wi-Fi and visual voicemail
The best value with a 12 month plan"

Also just noticed today that O2 have a new page of Simplicity Contracts
http://www.o2.co.uk/explore/tariffs/paymonthly/simplicity

I would still get the Iphone specific plan while you still can!

Someone at o2 said to me yesterday that all internet usage on all tariffs (simplicity AND contracts) will be capped. It will be called 'unlimited' but a fair usage policy of 500MB.

Like i said, i have no interest in cutting down to size. I want to port my number from one network to the next, the number is too vital to lose.

Let's wait and see, the networks will cut the accounts of sims used in iPhone 4, that are not iPhone mirco sims. Simple analytic tests will show this to them, then we can all moan about how unfair they are.

So seriously, how many times - the average user does not want to piss about cutting sims.

What are you on about? You don't know that, I highly highly doubt that would happen. Also why are you so reluctant to simply cut a regular sim to a micro sim size. Even if you mess it up you can request a new one and you WON'T loose your existing number.

Personally I'd much rather piss about cutting a sim up than waiting ages for a carrier to release a micro sim.

Hey everyone,

I just got off the phone with o2 and, well if this is true, you guys robably wont like it.

I have a simplicity 30 day contract which is £20.00 per month and was enquiring about signing up for the 12 month version because its £5.00 a month cheaper. I was then planning to buy an iphone4 pay and go as no doubt many of you are.

The man from o2 said however, they will NOT be supplying microsims for contracts other than the new 'proper' iphone tariffs and you cant get your number and contract transferred to one unless you pick one of the new fully iphone contracts. He said despite them replacing sims now if you lose it etc, they will not send out microsims unless you take out a new contract....

He even went and checked with his supervisor who confirmed it....

Time to get the scissors out?!

Is it safe to assume the O2 PAYG will be the same price as Orange (£480)?

Also, if your buying payg to use your contract sim do you still have to buy £10 topup when you buy the phone?

Networks are in business. They are in business to make money. I suspect therefore that it is cheaper for them to use existing allocated SIM cards and cut them for new phones than it is for them to produce and re-issue new SIM cards.

Therefore I expect to see SIM cutting devices in retail shops, at least until such a time as the old style SIM is obsolete.

Urgh. I was just about to buy a £15 12 month contract.

How bloody-minded is that?

WOW payg option is £480! Glad I went for sim free. well worth the extra £20

Does anyone else know how much, e.g. Orange charge to unlock a phone? IIRC O2 want £15 and six months service out of you before they'll let you go happily on your way elsewhere.

I wish I'd bought two of those SIM free iPhones now. At least by waiting I'll be able to get a white one this time around for missus!
