Giffgaff looks good, but it goes firmly into the £10 per month category. For me, that's ok. For my missus, I'm thinking Orange or T-Mobile would be better value as she's a very light user (texts a moderate amount but does need constant but very light data use).

I'm considering maybe getting Giffgaff for myself and Orange for her. It's not like we call each other much anyway :p

I've posted this before but it got lost quickly in the dross.

I don't understand why people aren't more annoyed about the loss of the texts abroad on o2.

I'm abroad roughly 90 days a year and I send roughly 20 texts a day. On my current simplicity tariff, each text takes 4 from my bundle but essentially costs me nothing. on the new tariffs, even though I'm unlimited in the UK, on average I'll be charged 20p a text (30 in the US + Canada, 11 in Europe but I split my time between them).

That works out at a whopping £360 extra per year if I step up to the new tariffs. Am I missing something here or do you all stay in the UK year round?! :D

I saw your post, but you're in such a unique position of being out of the country for 25% of the time and during the time you're away you're texting multiple times per hour!

I'm not sure what to say? Perhaps get a local SIM?

It The queue was probably 50+ by the time they let people in the store around 8am. I was told to use the entrance on the upper level opposite MacDonalds and ASDA as it would be the only one open at 7am.

I'll be at the trafford centre too (trying to look all cool and not at all excited). I want a white one [stamps foot] and if that requires queuing, so be it (i also have the option of picking up the one I ordered for the husband if they don't have white ones so I don't look daft if I'm one person too late in the queue).

I wonder how much stock they'll have. They did really well with the iPad.

I've found vodafone to be the best with roaming charges but I travel mainly to Europe with only 2-3 trips to the states/Asia per year. What about getting a sim free from apple and then buying payg sims from the countries you visit most frequently? One of the European carriers doesn't count borders between mainland Europe countries as borders so one sim card would do you for all. I just can't remember which it is at the moment!

HeHe, I'll be queueing up with you at the Trafford Center store, quick question though, what time will the Apple store be opening? I mean on Apples site it says that you can start queueing at 8am but the trafford center itself doesn't open until 10am so where abouts are we supposed to queue? The car park? lol

Is it really that unusual do you think? I use text instead of calls because they're cheaper. partly it's work and partly holidays but I would have thought a lot of people are out of the UK for at least 2 months a year, no?

They open the doors early and you queue outside the apple store. Another post suggested the door they open is the one on the upper level opposite asda. I think it's the one by selfridges then.

On the rare occasions that I'm outside the UK on work and I run up bigger phone bills, they generally are agreed with customers in advance and they're paid. I've had bills much bigger than £360 before on that basis.

But if it was just me, and I was on holiday - or travelling between two countries - I would think that Christmas had come early with the unlocked iPhone 4. A dedicated SIM for each country is the most optimum way to go.

Failing that, take a look at the international plans that Vodafone and T-Mobile have. They're quite competitive. How about Orange Camel?

do giffgaff do microsims? Also if you get a £10 goodybag do you get the unlimited internet until your credit runs out and you have to top up again or do you have to top up £10 per month?

Oh ok, I'll be there about 7am then :) I'm also going for a white one, hope they actually have them ready for release day

Theres an ASDA at the Trafford Center? i went the other week, i dont remember this?

I have concentrated on finding the cheapest SIM Only deal, with data included becuase that's what im mainly interested in

screenshot01j.png

GiffGaff is the cheapest and best deal by far if your just interested in getting your Data

I originally was about to get the £10 Tmobile deal as mentioned by someone here. but reading through forums I read that t-mobile cap the data speed on their standard tariffs including this one. In order to get high speed HSDPA you have to pay extra. I left T-Mobile a few years ago for their shady practices, and it seems they haven't changed.

The Virgin Mobile deal isnt too shabby with 200mins, if your a Virgin Media customer they may give you an even better deal.

The cheapest 30day sim only deals Orange & Voda offer start from £20...enough said

Im currently on O2 simplicity 10 with web bolt on, but it seems like O2 have pulled simplicity 30 day sims!

So anybody looking to buy a sim only iPhone4 and doesnt want PAYG, hope this helps you make your decision

Thanks for posting this. It's not made the decision any easier, I'm afraid!

Me: "Heavy" data user, light call and text user.
Her: "Light" data user (but needs data on for push mail), light call, moderate text user.

I'd really rather not add £120 to the total cost of ownership with one of the £10/month plans (Unless Vodafone or Three want to offer something?). T-Mobile PAYG allows you to pay £40 for a year's worth of 1GB data (as you say, it might be capped speed-wise) which seems fair to me. Or you can pay £10/mo and get the deal you mention above.

I'm therefore thinking Orange (or T-Mobile PAYG and top it up £40 for the 'free' 1gb/mo internet) and T-Mobile or Giffgaff for me.

Don't forget that T-Mobile have more 3G coverage than O2, too. So while T-Mobile may be a little slower at the top end, O2 is far less likely to get a 3G signal at all.

I can see it now anyway, just me running around the Trafford Center at 7.50, trying to find this one entrance that they have opened lol

I may be the happiest person on the planet if the current iPhone Contract deals with Tesco Mobile stay pretty much the same. I'd be alright with a little rise in the upfront cost, but £20 a month for 12 months would be great with say a £350 upfront cost. This being compared to the current £20 a month for 12 months with a £320 upfront cost for the 16GB 3GS.

Firstly get yourself a job with a company that provides a company mobile for travel so you dont have to use your own. I spent 4 months abroad in 12 different countries last year and im never expected to use my phone when im away.

IF thats not possible do O2 do a bolt on which provides discounted texts while abroad? I know Orange do.

Anyone got an O2 Micro-SIM?

For some odd reason, O2 shipped me an iPad SIM, but not an iPhone SIM ;/

As I mentioned earlier the Trafford Centre opened at 7am thereabouts and the Apple store opened at 8am.

Strangely enough, I think I have a reasonable chance of an iPhone through work if I ask for it. It's been hinted at by a director "next time you are looking to upgrade". But of course if it's like the other ones it'd be on O2 on their terms for 24 months and would ultimately belong to them. Aside from the fact my direct boss is tight as a duck's bum so I'd have to work around him to get it (bit cheeky) I don't think I'd actually want it that way. Would rather it belongs to me, unlocked, on my terms, on a decent network (O2 is awful around here), ready to upgrade at any time etc.

The price of being far too much of a gadget lover to have the sense to ask work for one: £499 ;)

Potentially. Even though it was hinted at they'd probably have dragged their feet for months anyway and eventually said "money's too tight at the moment" or something.
