Reservation confirmation

Reading through some of the US-centric threads it looks as though people who've reserved a phone in-store at the Apple stores can view their reservations via the Concierge service on Apple's website.

I understand the US pre-order/reservation system with AT&T differs from the UK one: Has anyone with a UK in-store reservation (as opposed to a PAYG order from the online store) been able to view their reservation via the Concierge service or the Order Status of the online store?

With not being able to see my reservation via the Trafford Concierge service (I have the reservation email though) I was just wondering whether it would be a wise move to confirm with the store over the phone, or am I fretting unneccessarily?

O2 staff have been told they're unlikely to be allowed IP4's on Staff Plan until "late summer". No reason given, but I'm guessing they're expecting short or limited supplies until then.

Getting kind of fed up with the misinformation apparently being given out by staff with mobile operators;

We have Vodafone staff telling one guy that they won't have any stock on launch day because it's all gone to pre-orders- a guy in the Orange store told me yesterday that Apple will have been holding a relatively small amount for pre-orders, and the mobile operators will be getting plenty of stock for the 24th.

Nobody in any network seems to know "anything" about iPhone 4, which is frustrating, as is the fact that they then seem to guess and present it as fact.

Can we please just have some open and coherent policies and pricing from every UK mobile operator for a device that is launching in a weeks time?!!

The last networks to release their pricing are taking so long because they're looking at the competition, having loads of pointless meetings, and adjusting their pricing to make it cheaper.

Hopefully.

At first my order wouldn't complete as it was coming back as "Authorisation Failed"

Then i got a call from the RBS credit card fraud squad and they too were confirming the order was legit of which i confirmed quickly to get my pre-order in :D

They have told me they have put over 2000 other cards on hold due to cards being targeted so the iPhone 4 can be purchased illegally!

I had this about a year ago when trying to use my Amex card to pay for something I bought from the Apple online store. In my case it just got declined and when I called Amex they said yes you have not shopped with Apple online before and we didn't think this purchase fitted in with your regular spending pattern. She went on to say that they have a list of online retailers that they watch out for. In Amex's case they "say" that they ask the retailer for more information about the card holder, however in most cases the retailer don't have a way of dealing with this and just tell the customer that the card has been declined. She just asked me to confirm the amount and advised that it would be authorised if I tried again. I also had Iberia, Qantas, Expedia, Air New Zealand all decline my Amex card.

I guess its good in that they are looking out for you, but can be a bit of a pain.

I just called O2 to get my PAC code in case I decide to move away from them. The lady on the phone sounded very depressed as though there have been many people doing the same thing

All joking aside it's pretty piss poor service from all of them. They're offering a product that they want us to spend shedloads on and commit to for up to 2 years, yet no one involved, including Apple, knows their arse from their elbow. It's fun at first but it's getting silly now. This is no kind of customer service and we wouldn't put up with it from anyone else. I certainly wouldn't be allowed to keep people dangling for info at work like this. We've got something happening on Monday and I can't imagine telling people I have no idea of the details.

And yes I know no one is holding a gun to my head but really...

<whinge, grumble>

Well allegedly O2 are holding back because they're trying to use their "special relationship" with Apple to push through some more competitive handset pricing. Three are still trying to negotiate actually getting iPhone 4 on their network. It's still damn annoying though, and it doesn't reflect well on any of the mobile operators. If O2 want to retain any of their iPhone customers that aren't forced into staying with them, they need to do something pretty special to convince us with the pricing, and soon.

I've just requested my PAC code from O2, in case I do want to jump ship when it comes down to it, and retentions didn't seem too bothered.

I was told by a Genius in Arndale Apple store Manchester yesterday that I will be able to get a micro sim from my carrier. It seems to be the carriers fault. Prob told Apple one thing but can't cope

Was in the Three store in Croydon yesterday.

When questioning the price plans, the womens response was, this is Three, when they say coming soon, expect to wait a few months :p

I have a number on O2 that I might port over to Vodafone, don't really know what I am doing, but I thought I might just get the pac so that I can cover all my options.

The lady at O2 said "your pac code is valid for 30 days, but it highly unlikely that Vodafone will be able to sell you an iPhone within that time as they have a massive waiting list". She also said " did you not register for updates from O2? People that have will have more chance of getting iPhone 4 than anyone elce!"

I am sorry but I find this funny:)

thank the lord!

i thought it was just their way of renaming the USB cable lol! ie one for the dock - which you have to buy and one for your computer :D

however it does seem like theyre scrimping each time a new release is out

2g - cleaning cloth, wall plug, dock

3g/s - wall plug

even so £25 for the plug and £25 for the dock... have to draw the line somewhere and didnt get the dock just out of spite because i thought i wasnt getting a wall plug :D now that i know it has one i still think its extortionate!

Not as extortionate as the damned case! £25 for a scratty strip of plastic. I thought the iPad case was a bit pricey at £30.

The only losers here are the networks. More of us than ever will buy sim-free at this rate. Especially people already on older iPhones with Simplicity, or similar, plans.

Of course, Apple gains in this situation. Wresting power over iPhone users from the networks.

UK tariffs:
Why doesn't everybody just go on the SIMplicity plan (for something between 15 and 25 pounds per month) and by the iPhone 4 from Apple?
That's what I will do/have done.
I just subscribed to 12 months SIMplicity 15 pounds (300 mins, unlimited txt and internet), bought the 16GB from Apple website, will sell my great condition 3GS on eBay for around 300, so will end up spending 200 pounds on the new phone. Perfect.
Why DOESN'T everybody do that?

Various reasons I guess. For me, because I'm not using O2 (rubbish coverage around here) and I'm a very light user of the actual phone functions so I can get away with normal pay-as-you-go and pay £10/month max.

For heavy users the 300 mins might not even be enough.

Or some might prefer the low initial cost of the iPhone on a long term contract even though if they're not a heavy user the TCO will be much greater, because they simply can't fork out £499 in one go. Though to those who have the credit rating for it, I suggest getting a 0% purchases or balance transfers card and spread the cost over 12 months yourself which I did last year and may end up doing this year.

Why do u think the networks are taking so long to release the pricing for the iphone in UK?

This is probably mostly down to Apple. You know what they're like at keeping information to themselves. The networks are probably telling us all they know themselves, and still trying to negotiate on price/terms with Apple who will be wanting various slices of the pie too.

Unfortunately as has been mentioned before in the thread, if you call a callcentre (I visited one myself like 8 years ago when I was job seeking) they're typically a target based operation where their job depends on maintaining targets for call duration and number of calls 'resolved' per day. If they don't know, rather than spending valuable time finding out they will make a guess to get rid of you ASAP and mark it as resolved, or if they can't do that will play 'pass the hot potato' until you're fed up of being passed around and end the call. Otherwise they get hauled into the manager's office for poor performance.

Really call centres should be done based on customer satisfaction but as usual it'll be ran by someone who is only seeing the expenditure figures.

Some of the networks have a blog e.g. blog.three.co.uk so sometimes it might be better to ask there for questions like this as they're more likely to be working closely with the corporate side rather than some call centre that is possibly outsourced.

I haven't said this yet, but I love your avatar. Man FFIX rocked. I'm also a little drunk.

Hehe I've traditionally used FF themes for my forum name and avvy. Even though the series is a bit half hearted these days. FFIX was certainly around the peak of it all!

Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much. I'll say this: IF you can get your hands on an iPhone on June 24th, you'll get it working on the tariff you want. The question mark is whether we will actually get our iPhones.

I have little faith that the reserve & pick-up system will work. Hopefully I'll be proved wrong.

I hope you are proved wrong. I 100+ mile drive at that time in a morning to be told no. Someone will get slap.

I have just checked mine with the Trafford Centre concierge service and I am not listed either for a sim free one. I will be confirming with them. But as I have it in black and white, barring no iPhones turning up next Thursday, I will be holding them to it.

Let me know how you get on with them. plan on giving them a call just after they open at 10.
