It will cost me £100 to pay off the rest of my contract.

I will take up a new contract for the 32GB iPhone 4.

How much will the handset cost?

If prices will be similar to that of the 3GS, I assume it will cost me £270ish.

So, where are people getting the £80/£90 price for the handset?

I thought you had to pay the same one off price no matter if you're upgrading or starting a new contract. Does o2 charge cheaper prices when you upgrade iPhone to newer iPhone?

I hope that made sense...

It all depends what contract you get, based on 3GS prices. The higher the monthly price the cheaper it is. On the £40 a month contract a 16GB 3GS is £89.

Hi, this may have already been asked but basically i have a 3GS with 12months to go so if i buy a iPhone 4 on pay as you go, can i then put my 3GS Sim in it. And yes i know the iPhone 4 takes a micro sim, but if i cut down my sim with some scissors would it then work in the iPhone 4. As i think this would be the best option, as then i could sell my 3GS and then my contract would run out just in time for the next iPhone. Thanks

Does anyone know what happens in regards to the " new contract" and how it will probably work if i take up the o2 upgrade offer? specifically, is it literally like starting a new contract with all the credit checks etc that a new customer would go through even though i have been with them for 8 years? or is it literally just a case of you pay £20* whatever is left of your contract and the price of the new iphone and they start you on the new contract?

Looks like O2 might be updating their tariffs as the site appears to be down for maintenance. Can anyone else check if they get the same error?

Absolutely. To me, that is the best option, although the initial outlay will be quite high, it will give you so many options for next years iPhone 5 :D

I thought the current 32GB price was £499?

You could well be right. I can't get on the o2 website at the mo as the shop part appears to be in meltdown for some reason. I had a figure of £540 in my head, for some reason, so if you say it is £499, then I am more than happy to believe you.

Argh all these "strategies" for getting a better deal are confusing me.

I don't understand why people are buying PAYG and then getting simplicity... surely the PAYG will cost £550 ish... and paying £15 instead of £35 for 18 months only saves half that amount....

Because after a year, you sell it for £350ish and get the iPhone 5. And when you have the iPhone on contract, you still have to pay for the iPhone (albeit subsidised).

RE PAYG, I think its pretty obvious its gonna be:

£599 for 32GB iPhone 4
£499 for 16GB iPhone 4
£399 for 8GB iPhone 3GS

Better not be!

I hope they keep the current price structure for the handsets!

3GS replace 3G

iPhone4 Replaces 3GS.

Natural progression and the prices are already high enough.

It was down for maintenance on a certain section but not on the iPhone section I believe.

Seems my memory wasn't playing tricks. Current O2 PAYG prices for 3GS iPhones

16Gb - £449
32Gb - £549

I cannot imagine the iphone 4 will be any less than those prices.

Confirmation

Guys can someone confirm that I would be able to buy the PAYGO handset and just shove my current contract SIM from my 3GS into the phone and then I am good to go - once cut down or replaced.

Is it fine to do that?

Kevin:

Well we're both right. Prices on Apple.com/uk are cheaper. Hmm how odd.

Yes, that is perfectly fine. Just a few snips with those scissors, and you are good to go.

Is it just me that thinks maybe this is ridiculous that we're all even considering spending this much money, every 12 months, just to have the latest iPhone...

Unless you have ya head screwed on.....sold my unlocked 32GB iPhone 3GS 4 weeks ago for £599 ready for this beauty to be released :p

Yea. Provided it's the same network, because they are locked.

Yes, it's absolutely insane lol!

Haha anyway, does cutting down your card have a 100% chance of success? And if I got a microsim then how would I get my current contract onto it? Also, will it have to be unlocked to work with a microsim with my old number on?

Good price.

I cannot even sell my 32Gb 3GS unlocked for £325 at the moment

Sigh... it would appear alot of you are over looking one CRUCIAL fact of the Early Upgrade

Before you can end your existing contract under this Offer you must:
Have paid a one-off, non-refundable, charge of £20 for each complete month remaining of your minimum term (as calculated by O2) (the "Early Upgrade Offer Charge");

Sign up for a new 18 or 24 month minimum term Pay Monthly or 24 month minimum term Business airtime contract with O2 with an iPhone 4 at the normal price for that phone and on our current relevant tariff terms at the time you sign up for the Offer.

Understand that you will be waiving the "change of mind" period set out in your new Airtime contract or any Distance Sales Act rights granted by law as we will be continuing to prove a service which you are already familiar with.
