ive just been looking through the posts ive missed and noticed most people are going to return the iphone back to apple and go with tesco because of the good deals, and my cousin is going to do the same but ive told him just to sell the iphone on ebay unopened for alot more instead of getting back either £499 or £599 and then go get the iphone from tesco, plus if u dont open it the buyer if hes a scammer or an idiot cant get back to you saying it doesnt match the description and cant claim the money back. but make sure u take pictures of the box unopened before u post, its just an idea for ya :)

Taking a photo of the box before sending it doesn't prove anything.

Can't wait to turn up at Exeter Apple Store tomorrow with my reservation etc! :D I'm gonna get everything ready in a minute, and even though I'm upgrading using the £20 O2 Offer, I'm gonna take I.D just in case!

Anyone else going to the Exeter store tomorrow? :D

It's possible, of course. I'd imagine there's a host of ways O2 can tell what device you're using. However I doubt very much they would block a 3GS contract in an iPhone 4.

O2 are desperate to retain customers and wouldn't want to piss them off with a move like this.

Also O2 wouldn't be giving away free microSIMs to those on current contracts if they had to change anyway.

I know people are saying different things but an O2 CS person just said that even if you use a 3GS iphone contract sim in your iphone4 they will know and require you to change to one for an ip4 contract therefore loosing your unlimited wi-fi.

Has anyone else heard this? Or has any actual evidence that they wouldnt be able to tell?

I'll probably ring again in a bit to speak to someone else and see what they say.

Great, Carphone Warehouse's customer services department are now closed. The only number still open is the help with online orders numbers who can't access any information on over the phone orders.

Customer services doesn't open again until 8:30am. So how the hell are we meant to know if we need to stay in for our deliveries or go out and queue at stores?? How can they still be taking iPhone pre-orders when they don't have any left?

My gut feeling is that Carphone Warehouse has seriously messed up but has decided to just deal with it tomorrow and forget about it tonight and anyone that doesn't already have a transaction ID and DHL reference number will not be getting an iPhone tomorrow.

Edit: FWIW, they called me for my pre-order at 11:30am today. I placed two orders, one for my phone (32GB) and one for my fiancée (16GB) (we'd got it pre-authorised on her account that I could place her order for her since she can't answer calls at work). Neither of us have received any transaction numbers or DHL tracking numbers and the guy on the phone at about 6:30 said that my order had been cancelled because of lack of stock.

Right... this is my first iPhone (transferring over from B'berry). And not sure if this has been asked in any of the previous 11+K posts to find the answer... so pls be kind.

Got my MS from O2 the other day... did the whole Swap My SIM via the O2 website, and the MS is active. But, if I pick up my phone tomorrow, will it be just a matter of starting up the phone and using it after I place the MS in, or will I have to synch it up with iTunes first before I'm able to use it/make calls with it.

Again... apologies in advance if it's a repeat question... been following the thread... but wouldn't have a clue in which of the hundreds of pages to look.

Cheers

Yea although this is a bitch move I can see CPW doing it. If I were you I'd go to the store tomorrow and get one. Even if your ip4 from CPW does turn up you can always return it.

How have you got tracking information?

I looked on there website and the tracking page said all the ways to track your ordres, and said "If you don't have either of these numbers, give our tracking team a call on 0845 601 0410". So I called and asked for it.

So Sorry to see you guys have to wait. What if you buy one used from the states now? Can you use it?

*edit* Do only some countries have to wait? I think I saw a guy from Finland saying he had to wait 8 weeks?

You will have to plug the phone in to itunes before you can do anything with it. Even if you bought a sim free one it will need to be activated. Then simply insert your MS and it will work.

All iPhones come in a factory state out of the box. It's only after hooking up to iTunes does it query Apple's servers to find out what exactly it's allowed to do.

You will need to hook it up to iTunes to activate it (Or unlock it if it was ordered sim-free). Until then you'll only be able to make emergency calls.

What do I need to being with me for a sim-free phone? Just email address or printed email?

I ordered using my dad's Apple ID, does this mean he will have to pick it up, or can I do it myself?

The thing is, by the looks of things CPW stores are getting next to no handsets. I also can't get the phone for my fiancée in a store. :(

I can confirm what Mikey203 says, except the assumption about PAYG is likely wrong. Our local Tesco stores (I called two of them) join the other operators in launch day contract-only.

(Re: Tesco Tariffs)

Fair enough. Seems that I must have fallen victim to that rare phenomenon of a Customer Service Rep who didn't know what they were talking about! ;):D

Hi all

I got a call from CPW this morning at around 10:00am and upgraded to an iPhone 4 32GB. I rang again at 16:00 to ensure the order was ok and they gave me my DHL tracking number which currently shows the package in Lichfield (where CPW have a warehouse I believe).

Cheers,
Rich.

Taking a photo of the box before sending it doesn't prove anything.

erm if u cant get a picture of the box unopened along with the serial number at the back of the box it shows that it was unopened when you posted it and that if the buyer claims there was a scratch on the screen or it came opened u have proof,

and yh it was me who got it early :), i will be on my way back home soon and i will upload pictures, and got a nice HD video of people cheering at my local walkabout from the england goal which i will upload on youtube and link it, u guys can expect that at around 9-9:30 when i get back. :)

also i dont think the iphone i got 2day is the 1 im supposed to get, because when i typed in the tracking number into ups because i wanted to check how it got to me in like 8 hours, it says scanned in tamworth at 5:11pm, so i dont no if apple accidently sent another iphone or not and if they find out will they charge me twice u think.

No, it shows the box was unopened when you took the photograph. What happened to it between taking the photo and posting is anyones guess. More over shrink wrapping packages is a trivial exercise and something could be opened and re-sealed without a problem.

No way this photo would help you in a dispute.
