still no sign of mine... seen every delivery van apart from UPS :(

Anyone know if I can grab a bumper in CPW or o2 stores today? My reception in the house is crap as it is and I dont fancy wearing a glove until Apple can sort this issue out (if there is actually one)

There are none in any CPW or O2 in Newcastle unfortunately

All those with reception issues at the bottom left, can you post your network? and weather it's on 2G, 3G or both.

Be interesting to see which band is most susceptible to it..

Still waiting for UPS to turn up with mine :(

o2 - 3G

Was stood in line earlier outside the local Vodafone store. Chatting to the guy next to me and thought we would compare download speeds. Him on Vodafone, me on O2. Both full 3G signals. Using the speedtest app we performed a check. He got 1.2mbps I got 620kbps.

Looks like Vodafone is double the speed (ish).

Isn't that just because they have their corporate version of suresignal inside all Vodafone stores?

TT

I didn't bother with the whole micro sim thing. Cut up a normal sim with O2 free web and wifi for 12 months and its working perfectly (Y) (bar the signal grrr)

Just wait a while though. these things take a while to fully settle in- my web and wifi took about 2 hours to activate- so dont panic! this is just what happens with phones nowadays! all too complicated! ha!
Did you transfer your existing number?

Finally finished syncing, and noticed that I have about 3GB less space left than on my 3GS. After a bit of head scratching I reckon this is down to the higher screen resolution - I have a few iTunes films/videos synced to my phone, and I reckon that perhaps iTunes normally down-samples them to the iPhone screen size with syncing, so maybe the video files sizes are larger on the 4G than the 3GS?

I guess the same might be true of the down-sampled pictures that iTunes syncs with iPhones from iPhoto or Aperture.

Been out for delivery since 5:15am and still nothing :/
Delivery from Gloucester to South Wales (UPS)
Hope mine doesn't have these issues people are having. The signal issue isn't a biggy since I'm right handed but I don't want the yellow thing.

Brent Cross Apple Store release

Got to Brent Cross at 8:01am and thought I'd probably be in a queue
of ten or twelve. I've never queued for the release of any product before
so I didn't know what to expect. What I didn't expect was at the very
minimum one hundred in front of me! By about 8:20 Apple staff were
asking people with reservations to go to another, shorter queue and by
that time people were already being told that there were no unreserved
phones for them this far back in the queue.

I had reserved my phone so I joined the "reserved" queue.

I thought that it should take between half an hour and an hour.
Two and half hours later, I was still about fifteen/twenty people or so back
in my queue. The chap in front of me started talking to me and it
transpired that he had flown in from Germany to get a sim-free
iPhone 4. A major reason as to why he was able to do this was
that he worked for a well-known German airline which gives him
good flight availability at reduced prices. It also turned out that
he had friends outside the Regent Street store doing the same thing.
Apparently he had bought Apple stuff in places as far afield
as Hong Kong, Italy and the States and was due to be flying back
to Germany by 8pm tonight - the last available flight to him from Heathrow.

One thing that we both talked about was, and Apple are not necessarily going
to be keen on this, was the amount of time we had to wait to get into the
store. He explained that the Apple Store he had been into in the US
was quite a bit quicker/more efficient with their service than either the Brent
Cross one or the stores he had visited in Germany.

Finally at between 11:30am and midday (lost track of the time I was
so knackered!) me and the chap in front of me got into the store shortly
after being told by one of the Apple staff that O2's network had crashed
due to the increase in traffic. During our wait, several people had stopped
to ask those of us in the queue what it was all about.

In the end my transaction took less than ten minutes. One iPhone 4, black,
16GB. I added a black bumper to prevent damage and possibly reduce
signal deterioration.

As I left the store, I tapped my fellow patient would-be iPhone 4
customer, wished him luck on his journey back home and shook hands.
Upon exiting, I almost felt the urge to break into song with
"It's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming, iPhone's coming home"
whilst raising my purchase above my head for added World Cup effect.
Sanity got the better of me when I decided to decamp to John Lewis
for a hot chocolate instead of an embarrassing celebration.

It was past midday when I left John Lewis.
The queues were still long at the Apple Store.
Carphone Warehouse had also opened early and had a steady but smaller
queue. O2 also had a queue but that was longer than CW's.

I now have an unopened iPhone, a bumper and, very sadly, photos and
videos of the queues outside Apple in Brent Cross ;)

Just been to college got sent home after 14 mins, so I'll be in for my iPhone :D
This day is going sooooo slow :(

It was Out for Delivery at 6:02am but they don't start delivering until around 9am, now its 1:53pm Comeee onnn.

Still waiting for TNT ......... it's been 7 hours since it's been out on delivery... what the **** is the driver doing????????????????????

[in Reading]

UPS delivered mine at midday today (Feltham to Slough). Now I have to wait another 48 hrs until it arrives in Dubai :-(

TNT and Orange have both wasted my time today. I really should've just gone about my day as normal instead of putting things on hold. Never again.

And i just know my phones will have the yellow spot and signal issues to top it all off nicely.

Don't think i'm ever gonna do a pre-order again. Gosh! what a nightmare.

right

so whats happening about the no signal thing then?

I have had no signal since I bought the phone this morning

Been out for delivery since 5:15am and still nothing :/

Hope mine doesn't have these issues people are having. The signal issue isn't a biggy since I'm right handed but I don't want the yellow thing.

Mine too has been out for delivery from the Gloucester depot since 05.15, and im in Gloucester. Still not here

By 'out-of-contract customer's' I think he meant existing customers who are eligable for an upgrade, as opposed to existing customers not eligable for upgrade, and having to take advantage of the early upgrade offer.

Ah, I see. That would be fine then. :D

I was due an upgrade anyway, but I did see a guy in the shop having to buy out the last 6 months of his 12 month simplicity contract. Stuff that.

Right had a bit of a mere this morning, finsihed work and went over to Fenchurch Street Vodafone store and laughed at the 200+ queue at the 02 store. Queued for over an hour (processing these contracts seem to take some people an age) only to be told there were 3 16GB phones left. So I asked how many 32GB and they said that they did not get any, half the queue just left at that point after I had a bit of a strop and said at least put a sign in the window.

Then went to the Vodafone store in Liverpool St only to be told that if I hadn't preordered they had no walk in stock. That was news to me Vodafone hadn't announced any preordering scheme. So jumped on train back to Ealing, CPW had stock but out of 32GB on Vodafone.

Phones 4U told me to go to the Vodafone shop as they had loads, and now here I sit with my new toy. Although apparently it takes two days to port a number and on Vodafone you can't use the temp number you get with the SIM.

Every o2 store though had a queue, they should have offered out of contract customers first upgrades for two weeks and then let people in contract upgrade. Who wants to queue all day in this heat?

I also have got an iPhone 4 with a temporary Vodafone SIM which so far still says "No Service" (its been about 3.5 hours).

How do you know that the temporary sims don't work and that it just won't take time?
