i just looked through the iphone packaging and noticed we get an sim ejection tool, so is it just america that never got theres and maybe at&t are too cheap maybe to tell apple to supply 1 in there ?

I don't see why everyone is so bothered about the reception problems.

Even if it doesn't work as a phone, you got yourself a frickin' awesome iPod touch!

lol expensive touch i reckon :D

Like my 3gs it chops and changes from 2g full bars to none (solid 5 bars on my nokia) and the very odd 1 bar 3g mainly searching.Imo was hoping alot better but sadly no different from my 3gs :(

Personally only ever seen that on se phone i once had which only cost me £50 so wasnt bothered.

Dont want to put a dampener on everybody else but im really disappointed :(:(

situation:

wanted to buy a sim-free iphone from apple, so queued since early in the morning, but got told (by an apple employee) a couple of hours into queueing that they will most likely run out of stock by the time my turn came. so, left the queue and bought iphone4 on o2, with early upgrade offer, and started a new contract.

then went back to apple to buy a case (this is about 3 hours later, still a huge queue), and saw they still had lots of iphones in stock. made a fuss how i was told hours earlier the stock will sell out by the time it was my turn, and that's why i left the queue and bought the phone from o2 on contract (which isn't really what i wanted to do), and asked if i could have a sim-free phone from them, given the situation, and they agreed!

so, now have two phones, a sim-free one and one on new contract with o2.

haven't opened either yet, as can't decide what to do.

options:

  1. return contract phone for refund, and use sim free phone with the remainder of my contract - this is what i originally intended to do - but looks like it's complicated now, as the shop said they can refund me on the phone, but can't refund the money i paid for early upgrade, they're saying i need to arrange this with customer services, to have that credited to my account - messy
  2. use the contract phone and sell the sim-free one - the simplest option, and likely to make me a profit, but end up with the locked phone
  3. ideal option, but not sure if this is possible - use new o2 contract sim in the apple (unlocked) phone, thus having a new contract AND an unlocked phone, and sell the contract phone (which is currently also unlocked, and remains so, until the contract sim is put into it and it's connected to itunes, at which point it would lock - had this confirmed to me by o2 CS). but not sure if apple iphone would remain unlocked if i put the o2 contract sim in it, and also, if the contract phone i'd sell as unlocked wouldn't lock when whoever buys it puts the sim in it.

if ANYONE has read this far AND understands all of it, AND can offer some sensible and constructive advice, i'd be VERY grateful.

Sell one to me! I can pay £340 right now? Even though you could make a huge profit on eBay. You would make my day though:D

I went downstairs to the loading bay to ask if they had any UPS packages and they said no. Then the UPS man walks up with my package and I sign for it. Now have it in hand!! I'm sure he'll be at yours shortly... I'm EC3.

Cheers mate! I'm still hopeful

Omg it's here. UPS just delivered my iPhone. The guy said to me 'congratulations for being the last person in Edinburgh' and shook my hand

Thanks to everyone for support. Will take photos and upload when I've charged and updated iphone. No yellow blotches yet

Still waiting for my UPS guy to turn up. If I had known it would have taken this long I'd have gone and got my reserved one in the apple store!

Hey guys, a little help.

Got my iphone 4 today, dead chuffed, sim free and want to use my 02 simplicity contract in it, so that needs to be transferred to micro sim which i do have and did the online form at 02. But it hasn't done it transferred yet, its been about 6 hours so i cant use my new iphone?

So to anyone who transferred existing contract to microsim, how long did it take?? should i do the form again, or should i ring up??

thanks for any help!!:D

Apple Store Glasgow

Got there at 10:15 to collect my reserved one, got into the store from the queue at 12:00 and got served all 5 minutes by 12:45. Should have had a separate queue for SIM free - the contract stuff was taking the time. Had sold out of unreserved at about 11:30 - 500 reserved sales and I'd say maybe 100 max unreserved. 150 people in the queue when I joined it.

Activated in seconds and my VF contract sim that I transferred my old contract is working fine.

Phew - what a day. Love the handset though.

I cut up my Giffgaff sim and instantly got a perfect O2 connection, glad I managed to cut this one right as I tested a few of them before hand a few of them didn't work.

Just rung up myself, and he said that it could take up to 24hrs. He said that once your old mobile loses service, then your new sim will be active.

I'm prepared to go to sleep tonight without it being activated and hopefully wake up to it being all ready to go :)

I did this last week and it took overnight - about 8 hours to shift. Not convinced it is not a batch process.

Does anyone know what the Apple (online) store returns policy is for iPhones? Got mine today from Apple and I've played with it, but the Tesco's offers are VERY tempting depending on when they could supply me one, could save me about £150 on my usage pattern...

Bentalls Centre Reservation queue

Hi guys, have been following this monster thread for a while :)

Does anyone know what the situation is with the reservation queue at Bentalls Centre? I reserved my iPhone for pickup but I can only get there by 7.30 and not sure if there will be enough time to get the iPhone...

O2 selling over phone

Just been on phone with O2 ( I am an existing customer) and asked them to give me a PAC code for cancelling my contract. Immediately I was asked what for, and once I replied to them that I wanted an upgrade and all O2 shops refused to give me one and I was planning on going to Tesco. I was put through to the retention team and given a new contract and they have already shipped my new phone!

Please remember this is for the existing O2 customers only!

What were the new terms of your new contract & how much did you pay for the phone?

So mine is doing well - not noticed the reception blocking/grounding issue, but I can't get a data signal in my house, although Orange say that 3G coverage is excellent here. Anyone else experiencing odd reception issues? I can't even catch a whiff of EDGE, which is ok because I'm on WIFI here, but it is slightly concerning if I'm out and about.

I got strong 3G signal on the way home, so I know that it does work, but just not at my house. How's it for everyone else?

i don't believe this. i went to the Apple Store on Regent's Street today at 5PM, with confirmation of my reservation, only to find that the queue is 3 hours long. And thats not even for people hoping to pick one up at the end of the day, thats just people waiting to collect iphones. This launch is crazy!!!
