I'm well confused and need some basic stuff explained to me please!!

1. Can you get an o2 contract set up on the 24th at the Apple Store on Regent Street?

2. If so, does that include upgrading from a 3GS on o2 and keeping the same phone number?

3. If so, when do you pay the Early Upgrade Fee? Before the 24th to o2? Or at the Apple Store?

4. And can you reserve an iPhone 4 to be picked up from Regent Street and set up there?

Thanks

I think too be honest no one can answer these questions until after the 15th as there is little to no information to go on.

Your best bet is wait until Tuesday and then call O2 to see what you can do.

Thanks!! I'll do that.

What about American Sales Tax? If Apple factor that into their US costs the pre-tax handset cost could be cheaper which means the cost here could be lower too when VAT is added :D I have no idea how tax in America works so this could be wishful thinking but a guy can dream right?!?

Exactly what ^ he said. The $599 price is before sales tax in the US.

If it costs more than £450 I will not be getting one. Surely they could have told us prices by now and have them reasonable considering they just launched the iPad allot of us dont have much money left over.

1 & 2 yes, according to the store manager today. 3 & 4 unknown yet, probably until Tuesday.

Apple did upgrades last year and can now do them on both o2 and Voda. :):)

I really hope the price is set around £450 because a price more than that just seems a little too much for a phone. I was also willing in the past few years to purchase an iPhone with 12 months free web bolt on which is worth £120 but as this won't come with iPhone 4 this also increases the price of the phone as I will have to get a tariff that includes 3G.

Do you guys think that Orange will have the Iphone 4 in stock on July 29th or when i do order will i have a wait :(

if you go to this thread, https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/934746/, the guy says that because his AT&T contract isn't up for renewal any time soon to get iPhone 4 he has to pay $599. Thats around £420 so i guess thats the price for the 16gb but even if they decide to up it a bit i think that £600 can't be justified, not even for the 32gb version. Obviously he could be misinformed or VAT could screw us. I think that the prices will be similar to what they are now, for the 3Gs in the Apple Store, £449 and £499. Or what they were at launch, supposedly £449 and £549.

Edit: http://www.apple.com/iphone/compare-iphones/ in the bottom small print it talks about gifting the iPhone, 16gb $599, 32gb $699. So expect similar prices here (hopefully) :)

I meant 500 for 16GB, 600 for 32GB. Hmm, VAT can, and probably will screw us. Right Govt, when are you increasing the VAT?

Oh dear. $599 for the 16GB? That's £411. Add VAT and you get £482. Then there always seems to be a £20 or £30 uplift.

So based on $599, expect the 16GB iPhone to be around £499.
Yippay :/

Ahhhh this phone is looking way to expensive for me now, I'm gonna have to wait until iPhone 5 to be able to afford it. *crys*

Don't cry, think positive.

Isn't that what the price of the PAYG 3GS 16GB was until the reductions earlier this week?

True

Ah cr*p. However, look at the iPad.

Orange shop is dead!

http://shop.orange.co.uk/ gives white screen of death.

I've just sold my 3GS, and now hoping that the pricing on Tuesday won't be ridiculous.

I'm now stuck with a Nokia 2323 'CLASSIC' till the 24th. Classic meaning circa 2001.

have you found orange 3g to be quite speedy and reliable?

not sure if youve experienced o2 at all, but if so how does it compare?

I have tried every network in anticipation of the iPhone 4 (30 day rolling contract) and yesterday I caught a train with a friend from Northampton to London and Orange had a almost consistent 3g signal compared to my friends Vodafone which did go to 2g/edge a fair bit.

Hitting London and doing some quick speed tests around Barking, Central London, Overground etc... Orange was a consistent 1.3 to 1.4mbit but Vodafone when it caught a good strong 3g signal was 3.5mbit

O2 coverage is nowhere near as good as Oranges or Vodafones and for a consistent signal on 3g I have found Orange to be a good compromise between flat out speed and coverage.

In my home and at work O2 and Vodafone barely gives a signal (Northampton & Milton Keynes) where Orange gets full 3g ;)

But of course this varies for where you use your phone

The 16GB iPhone 4 will not be more than £500 on Pay As You Go.

If you look at the new line up, it's nothing more than a "slide" in models.

8GB iPhone 3G replaced with 8GB iPhone 3GS - £349 price will remain.

16GB iPhone 3GS replaced with 16GB iPhone 4 - £449 price will remain.

32GB iPhone 3GS replaced with 32GB iPhone 4 - £589 price will remain. The 32GB 3GS is down to £499 to clear stock, but it hasn't always been this price.

Obviously VAT changes, etc will come into play but I think it's safe to say the prices will simply remain as much the same as possible and the models will simply "slide" over accordingly.

I've mentioned this before here. I'm in Norwich and for much of the city, including my house, O2 is pretty awful. I was with O2 fro 18 months and switched at the start of this year to Orange. It has been a good decision. I now have full strength 3G in all of my house! I travel a fair bit around the UK and I've been pretty pleased with the Orange network nearly everywhere except central London (just like with O2 I've had a few times when the signal strength is good but data just doesn't work, a capacity issue I think). As to speed, it seems ok mostly but that's not to say it doesn't crawl on occasion.
