The 16GB iPhone 4 will not be more than £500 on Pay As You Go.

If you look at the new line up, it's nothing more than a "slide" in models.

8GB iPhone 3G replaced with 8GB iPhone 3GS - £349 price will remain.

16GB iPhone 3GS replaced with 16GB iPhone 4 - £449 price will remain.

32GB iPhone 3GS replaced with 32GB iPhone 4 - £589 price will remain. The 32GB 3GS is down to £499 to clear stock, but it hasn't always been this price.

Obviously VAT changes, etc will come into play but I think it's safe to say the prices will simply remain as much the same as possible and the models will simply "slide" over accordingly.

I agree I think it will be £499 for the 16gb and £549 or £599 for the 32gb

I've just sold my 3GS, and now hoping that the pricing on Tuesday won't be ridiculous.

I'm now stuck with a Nokia 2323 'CLASSIC' till the 24th. Classic meaning circa 2001.

I know the feeling mate ... my iPhone 3G is due to go bye-bye this afternoon when my mate buys it for £200.

The only downside is that I won't be buying the iPhone 4 until my payday in July, because we've got the new car to finish paying for this month.

So on July 24th 2010 ... I'll be bounding along to the Apple Store in Glasgow.

i work a fair bit in northampton, sixfields area and near the barclaycard building (cant remember the name) on that industrial estate anyway and find o2 signal there very patchy! 3g drop all the time back to gprs.....

although orange isnt the best at home, if it means ill get a better experiance out of home then i may be tempted!

alternatively i could get the iphone 4 on orange unlock it, then get a voda rolling contract.....

do orange unlock iphones yet?

It said/says on the apple website where you see a list of countries who provide the 3gs that orange/o2 do unlocking but as of yet vodafone don't but this might of course change for the iphone 4.

Barclaycard is down by brackmills as I used to work very near there too ;)

A bit off topic but I have a vodafone suresignal sitting in my cupboard doing nothing so if you are interested give me a shout as this will give you full 3g everywhere in your home and outside I am guessing Vodafone will have better coverage than o2 around the areas you work.

brackmills!!!!! thats the one, i do a fair bit of electrical work at phoenix it who have a few buildings around northampton!

im thinking orange is the way to go then..... then i can get it unlocked and go to voda if i want!

There are some Ofcom maps with predicted 3G coverage. Orange and 3 came out best, but data is at least 18 months old now. I'll try to dig them out.

I have the phone O2 sold me and then subsequently unlocked. I'm not sure about Orange. I'm sure someone here will know though!

Better call orange first to check after the announcement you don't want to be stuck with a locked iphone 4!

valid point! the best option would be for voda to release it on payg, not sure why they havent

Could be because they where last to get the 3GS so wanted to try and keep as many customers as they could.

I think every network now will be offering it on pay as you go so they all get a lot more sales from people who don't want to be tied into a contract and want cheaper line rental or guys with more money than sense who have to have it anyway.. like me!

Fun times ahead to see which networks unlock, which don't and if they all decide to follow o2 with limited tariffs

As a friend said he would prefer a limited tariff if it makes the network more reliable and I agree.

I'd be happy with £499 for the 16GB model, although you'd need to add a tenner on top of that for the "activation".

Here's the thing though. I've had my 3G since September 09, so I'm still in my 12 months of free data they give as standard. O2 have announced they're dropping unlimited data from the pay monthly tariffs, so is it safe to assume the iPhone 4 will not come with the generous 12 months of free data?

I would happily ditch by current number and take a new number if I got a new 12 months of unlimited data ... but given the situation with the pay monthly, I can't see it happening.

i agree too, but thats o2's argument and i dont believe that the 3% or whatever o2 claim will improve it drastically, its more their networks of a poor quality i think

They might surprise us but I think they will only do 500mb if you top up a minimum of £15 a month for example with no free data for 12 months

I am a bit biased when it comes to O2 as I think their coverage totally sucks but my friends swear blind they are much better than 3 or Orange for that

Got quoted these 3% of users account for around 30% of data usage on the network and I think we wont notice any change whatsoever!

I'm in a bit of a situation when it comes to the choice of carrier.

When I'm in Glasgow City Centre I get a perfect full strength 3G signal. However, I live 10 minutes from the city centre (by car) and in my home I get 2 to 3 bars and GPRS ... and a lot of dropped calls.

If I'm at my in-law's, who live down the road but closer to the city centre, I get 2 to 3 bars and a fluctuating Edge to 3G signal.

We have a home landline, obviously, but people know that if they phone my iPhone they're guaranteed to get me because a) they know how much I use my iPhone, and b) they know I carry it with me pretty much everywhere. :D

The problem though is that I'm currently topping up £15 per month on O2 Unlimited and getting O2 to O2 calls and texts for free. Going through my contacts list, only my Mother-in-Law and one of my Sister-in-Law's are on anything but O2 (one is on Orange, the other on Tesco Mobile).

So while I'd like a better signal in my home, which I know Orange can give me with their superior network coverage for 3G, I don't know if the trade off is worth losing the ability to call and text 95% of my contacts for free for just £15 every month.

so I been testing O2 G3 coverage with speettest.net all over East london the last few days... not bad mostly but quiet often you are in a "no 3g or edge" area... and this is OFTEN enough so that I notice when I want to use google maps or look up things around me

I will get an o2 paygo iphone and get it unlocked and then get a vodafone microsim and do some testing.

That's a pretty hard choice to make if you do far more calls/texts than use data then I would stick with o2 but likewise if you use the iphone for a lot more than that then go to orange.

well, let me put it like this, since i posted the fact i couldnt get on the speed test app due to data connection not working

well the data still isnt working and i have full 3g connection!!!!!

it just never works

yep! and after a couple of years im fed up of it, there has been no improvement at all!

am i right in thinking they also cap the speeds of payg 3g?

edit: data still timing out, on websites and the speedtest app.....

Not sure if they cap on payg 3g but I do know they did cap on payg broadband dongles a while ago.

I've loaded the same website on my PAYG iPhone 3G side by side with a mate using a contract iPhone 3G and the time was 99% identical.
