This list is a great example of thinking like a Windows engineer and thinking like an Apple engineer.

Windows = let's throw everything everyone could possibly ever want in, no matter how niche or unnecessary.

Apple = we'll support what we want to support, if you don't like it, feel free to shop elsewhere.

Guess which one is VASTLY more popular on these types of devices (with the non-geek audience, that is)

And that line of reasoning is a great example of thinking like an Apple fanboy vs. thinking like a person that actually wants a device they can actually use to do what they want it to.

What... he wants to actually be able to organize his photos, how quaint!!?

What... he wants to be able to add videos and photos to his iPad from an sd card or other device without having to sync it with iTunes each time, how dare he?

What... he wants to be able to download attachments in his emails, and attach other files to his emails, what nerve?

What... he wants to be able to make sure notifications are actually functional and don't just puke out at the most inopportune times, and be near impossible to review after another notification replaces them, well that's just absurd?

What... he wants a device with a high resolution screen that makes text look gorgeous and extremely readable even from a significant distance, and without zooming in, the guy must have a screw loose?

I could go on and on. If you took off your Apple fanboy glasses for a second, there is so much in the OP that any rational well reasoned human being should and would want the iPad to be able to do.

Apple employees are probably having a real laugh at you right now, IF they read this rubbish that is...which they dont! Not asking much are you?
I would recommend getting out a little more...half of your 'needs' are foolish and ridiculous. Oh,,,,and what kind of iPad are you using that you feel....and i quote...- This will let users take photos quickly, and would also allow them to take self portraits with far more ease. It currently takes way too long to snap a quick picture.

The device you're laying out in your list is FUNDAMENTALLY different from what an iPad is. Go buy a tablet PC. Be content in your purchase. Realize that most people don't want that. This isn't conjecture, this is fact. The device that you want exists already, and they have existed for over a decade. Nobody wants them. If that's what you want, go buy it.

Apple didn't "forget" to include the features you're outlining. They chose not to. Deal with it.

I like many of the suggestions assuming they can be implemented without screwing up the basic functionality of the iPad and without increasing its exposure to viruses, decreasing battery life, making it awkward to hold, etc... In other words, if there is nothing that will be lost in the process.:)

I bet you were one of those people saying the same thing about basic functionality like cut and paste, multitasking, 3G, and a number of other functions Apple left out of the original iPhone.

If your ridiculous claim is correct, if the reason Apple left out basic functionality out fo the iPad was not because limitations in time, limitations in tech, time needed to program them, test them and other constraints, then it goes to reason that the iPad 2 will be identical to the iPad one.

It won't have a video camera, or an sd slot, or a tweak to notifications, or a retina display or any of the basic functionality the original iPad is missing. Care to make a bet on that?

I will be happy to wager an iPad that the iPad 2 include a host of features that the iPad 1 does not.

This quote bears repeating. If you took off your Apple fanboy glasses for a second, there is so much in the OP that any rational well reasoned human being should and would want the iPad to be able to do.

Whatever man. It's like arguing to a wall. Just go on with being an angry man, and calling people who don't agree with you "fanboys". And be frustrated that the iPad isn't a totally different device, a device that you can already buy. (and to be honest -- that's the biggest fanboy thing I've ever seen -- rather than just buying a device that, once again, ALREADY EXISTS, you're begging Apple to duplicate it, just so you can get the Apple version)

Then why didn't you just write the above short list on your first post and spare us all the rubbish!......i agree with the rest of these guys,,,go buy a windows tablet! Then get out more!

None of these things mentioned fall under geek-needs. They all seem like perfectly rational wants.

go buy a windows tablet! Then get out more!

That's two posts in a row now where you told me to go outside. This begs the question, what kind of loser spends his time reading threads they don't care for on an internet forum just to go around telling other people to go outside?

If you want to go outside, go outside, enjoy the freezing cold. If you don't care for a post, don't read it. But where do you get off spending your time posting on an internet forum and unsolicitedly giving other people on that internet forum advice on how to spend their spare time. That's both ironic and stupid.

Thank you.

Reading some of the posts here, one would get the distinct impression that once you've been an Apple fanboy long enough, every apple device is absolutely perfect with no room for improvement and everything that an apple device can't already is a geek-need rather than a rational want.

And without increasing price! Reading that list makes me think that the basic model could cost $800-$1000, with the high-end models in the range of $1500, at least.

While yes, any sane person would agree that everything on the wishlist are nice things to have, in the real world, you can't put everything into a device without consequences, be it cost, less battery life, more weight, etc.

As for software improvements, again, nobody would argue against those features (as long as they can be implemented without risk of malware, loss of battery life, etc), but if Apple waited until they've managed to code every single software feature anyone could possible want, they'll never release anything. Yes, they could throw more software engineers at the project, but the more people you throw at a project, the more inconsistencies creep in, and the more people you need to throw at the project to root out the inconsistencies... in other words, you get Windows. :D

I guess once you've been an Apple fanboy long enough. Everything that an apple device can't already do becomes a geek-need rather than a rational want.

What do you call it when someone confuses 'I want this' with 'the iPad is broken, my wants constitute "basic functionality", and the iPad needs to have these things'? Is that something you'd hear from a fanboy, or a troll, or a child, or what? Just trying to get the terminology straight here.

I would recommend starting by learning the terminology "wishlist". I never once claimed that every single thing on the wishlist is basic functionality, just that many things on the wishlist are.

Many people here do want most of the things listed in the OP. Many people do things consider being able to organize their photos, being able to get their photos off of an SD card, download attachments, functional nofiications etc, as basic functionality. If you want to call them names for wanting these things, I think you're the one with the issue, not them.

How much did the original iPhone cost? £600. People wanted a 5mp camera with flash and video recording; however, people, like you, said that's too expensive, but, look at the iPhone 4. Technology gets cheaper as more expensive stuff comes out. LED TV's for example.

In 7-10 years, Apple could put all of this in the iPad, for £429. Do I think all of this will come to the iPad 2? No, iPad 3? No. iPad 10? Most of it, yes. And I bet you, the iPad will still be under £500.

+1. get an MS tablet, dude, thats what youre describing w/ this all-things to all-people wish list.

me, i prefer the simplicity of a niche product like the ipad. so does my dad. less trouble. easy peasy. if we need to do more complex tasks then we get another tool out of the toolbox -- a notebook.

I would recommend starting by learning the definition of "wishlist"

See, that's strange, because I know what a wishlist is. It's a list of things somebody would like. But this thread is full of comments like

The iPad should have . . .
The iPad needs . . .
This is necessary . . .
These things are broken and need to be 'fixed'
The current iPad doesn't actually just work . . .
Any rational well reasoned human being should and would want the iPad to be able to do . . .

Come on. It's one thing to state an opinion, it's another to say that the opinion is inevitable for anybody who is reasonable, or that the iPad must have these things.

Furthermore, I don't know what kind of bizarre logic sees improvements in technology as evidence that the previous iteration was somehow 'broken' or 'lacking basic functionality'. It's possible and consistent to be entirely happy with the current iPad without having to forego buying another iteration in the future.

If you want to call them names for wanting these things, I think you're the one with the issue, not them.

I'm not calling people names for wanting those things, I'm taking issue with people saying the iPad is somehow a failure if it doesn't do what they want it to. I think it's a pitiful attitude to see gadgets as wish-fulfillment devices. There are goods for sale in the world - either they do what you want them to do or they don't. It's fine to say 'I would like one which does X' but to turn that desire into some obligation on Apple's part (because any reasonable person needs to futz around with file systems?) is worthy of disapproval.

Even fact, has some opinion, based on a judgement using someone's personal opinion.

The iPad should have . . .
The iPad needs . . .
This is necessary . . .

Isn't that what people want, just phrased differently to each other.

None of these things mentioned fall under geek-needs.

actually, they do. can you guess the number of times my dad has called me complaining about the notification system in ios? or has tried to organized photos on an ipad? how about....none. zero.

see, most people just dont care. they get calls, send texts, and show off photos to the neighbors. thats it. they dont tweak on this **** like geeks do. thats what youre overlooking.

At which point anybody who was satisfied with iPad 1 through 9 is somehow a 'fanboy'

Not a dig at you, but that's the tenor of the thread.

Isn't that what people want, just phrased differently to each other.

'Is is necessary that you, Nishi100, give me $100, you should do this, you need to' is a lot different from 'I would like for Nishi100 to give me a hundred bucks'.

Talk about the straw man argument. How is dragging a photo or video off an sd card into the iPad complicated. Any more than dragging that file into your computer, adding it to iTunes, connecting your iPad to your computer, syncing with iTunes etc. It's far far simpler.

At the end of the day, the iPad is NOT a toy. Peopld do use it to do things, such as sending emails, viewing videos, catching up with friends on facebook etc. Giving them the ability to easily attach files to those emails, download attachments, review past facebook notifications is not trouble, it's basic functionality.

'Is is necessary that you, Nishi100, give me $100, you should do this, you need to' is a lot different from 'I would like for Nishi100 to give me a hundred bucks'. We all know what they mean; and an SD Card slot is necessary, for some people, they may not buy otherwise.

The iPad 1 is amazingly magical.

By saying 'get out more,' i was merely implying that the same "kind of loser" as you so sweetly put it, that spends what looks like an awful lot of effort writing an extensive 'wishlist' with photos and edited images should perhaps well...get out more! How much i go outside (and it's not cold right now) is not relevant.
Meaning,,,,no matter what you say or wish or dream,,,the iPad 2 is a done deal right now and i am sure work is already underway on iPad 3. Your 'wishlist' list makes no difference to me, anyone on this site or you. Its just a 'wishlist' i know, but the whole exercise is pretty pointless and stupid. Enjoy what you have and enjoy the mystery of what is coming...rather than wishing for something you will probably not get any time soon. No offense intended, but obviously you are hurt because your 'wishlist' is not being recieved so well. Oh, and perhaps learn the meaning of irony...

How much i go outside (and it's not cold right now) is not relevant
And by my saying you should heed your own advice and get out more, I'm merely implying that it's pretty pathetic to troll threads and tell the OP to go outside more just because a post is long. There is nothing wrong with someone spending their spare free time posting their thoughts on a topic. There is something wrong with someone spending their free time trolling other people on forums and telling them to go outside.

Your 'wishlist' list makes no difference to me, anyone on this site or you. Its just a 'wishlist' i know, but the whole exercise is pretty pointless and stupid.

Whatever the correct term for it is. You pointlessly wasting your time telling others how they ought to spend their time, is pretty stupid, and hilarious all the same.

At which point anybody who was satisfied with iPad 1 through 9 is somehow a 'fanboy'

If that anybody claimed that iPads 1-9 are absolutely perfect and wouldn't benefit from any additional functionality, then yes, they are fanboys.

That's what people here are claiming, that the iPad is perfect, that the functionality that's missing from it right now is missing not because Apple didn't have time to implement it by release, but because it gaining that functionality would somehow make the device not an iPad. Even the most basic functionality such as being able to attach a file to an email is somehow unapple.

I've heard identical statements made about copy and paste, multitasking, and a whole host of other functions that iDevices later gained. All those people saying that copy and paste, multitasking etc are too complicated, un Apple like, etc. were all fanboys too.
