Did you see Image retention on your rMBP with this test?

Irritatingly a week into my replacement and we've hit problems.

I had no image retention whatsoever before. Given the problems with my previous model, I left a test pattern on for 45mins with high brightness and there was no retention. Last night I wrote an email, spent about 10mins doing it and was interrupted for a brief phone call, when I sent the email, I could read the contents against the dark background I use as a wallpaper. Very reproducible now, not sure why I didn't have problems before. Using the Hawaii?? background I cant see anything, but I like the one of my girls which I use on all my machines.

I'm in work now and am conscious that personal content can still be read by the patient sat opposite me. I'd normally minimise the window, but I'm having to lock the screen as it doesn't show against the apple wallpaper or shut the lid.

I'm disappointed... this rMBP came with some scratches but I was happy to accept them as I don't expect the product to be absolutely immaculate, but I suspect I'll return this one and not get another.

Its a shame as it's a lovely machine otherwise...

I think LG "DCN23XXXX" screens do not present the problem ... opinions?

All LG panels on the rMBP have an image retention issue. The fact is when your panel gets warm enough you'll see it. When it's cool you will not. It's a flaw in the design. Sorry.

Today in my city 37 degrees, I'm sorry I do not agree

Though, I have no intention to buy any current generation of rMBP. It is interesting for those potential buyers to see if LG improves their panel or not.

From my past three times rMBP purchasing experiences, the LG display should be fine once it has survived one month without any IR.

I tested my screen after watching a movie [Avengers], & I didn't see any retention on my LG at all after using the IR app. I wasn't trying to warm it up, but I think my screen should've been warmed up after watching this movie.

Please provide independent source confirmation that this is a "flaw in the design" and that "all LG panels" have this problem. Are you an engineer with inside knowledge, or just someone who is mirroring what he is reading and just presuming?

Argghhhhh!!

So, on SECOND order now 2.6/16/256 rMBP. First one, LG screen didn't have anywhere near the brightness that I would expect. Yes, the retina screens have LESS brightness than others, but when acceptable is only -1, or -2 from high in a dim room, that doesn't work.

So, I did the order dance, and ordered another. Another LG of course, had a dead pixel but I massaged it a bit and it went away. Okay, fine. BUT, the brightness is NOTHING like the LAST one. Even dimmer. Literally, in the DARK I am at about 50% brightness at ALL BARS. . totally not acceptible

After getting mine replaced, a guy from Apple's Executive Relations (or whatever) called to follow up. He then asked me to not post that I had gotten it replaced on the Apple forum regarding this issue.. He made it very clear that he couldn't tell me not to talk about it, only ask... Still, it was kinda creepy.

Nasty. Dirty!

I don't presume and I don't mirror. I have have seen over 30 LG screens and have witnessed image retention on 100% of them. I have yet to come across a single LG screen on the rMBP that doesn't have IR. I have seen about 15 Samsung screens and comparing in the same way I have not seen any IR.

That said, maybe it's a stretch for me to call it a "flaw in the design". I imagine there are some rMBP owners with LG screens that don't know, care or haven't experienced an image retention issue. However, I do know that my colleagues that have the LG screens have IR and the ones that have Samsung screens do not. It's as simple as that.

Off to the "Genius" Bar I go

This is after having the rMBP on for about 10 minutes with the screen at half brightness.

I love how people without the IR issue like to pretend it doesn't exist.

Don't tell me not to use a dark grey background either. I have been using one since I started using Macs which was around 1984. I work in graphics apps and do a lot of photo editing, the last thing I need is a coloured background influencing my work. Masking the issue is not the answer.

Yes, LG screen.

I, too, went through three rMBP's. While the first one was returned due to body issues, the second two had really noticeable IR.

I decided to return the computer for a refund. I'm going to wait a few months until some of these issues are sorted out. For a computer of this expense, I find these screen issues totally unacceptable. Maybe that's just me, though!

Overall, these machines are beautiful, and I cannot wait to own one (minus the IR, of course).

Really? That's interesting. I'm on my second Macbook Pro Retina and in a dark room I'm at 1 below 0 LCD backlighting, intriguing.

Won the screen lottery on the first try!

Just received my build to order MacBook Pro Retina:
2.7 GHz Quad-Core i7, 16 GB DDR3L SDRAM, 768 GB flash storage

Week 37/38 build (September)
LSN154YL* - Samsung screen!
DLM235*

1 dead pixel, unobtrusive location.
No muras.
No case blemishes or defects.
NO IR!

No way I am going to return it because of 1 dead pixel due to the risk of receiving an LG screen in exchange.
Happy with this one.

I received my 2.3/16/256 BTO unit today. I ordered on the 6th and got a Samsung Panel. No cosmetic flaws dead pixels or tints. I feel extremely lucky. I do feel bad that so many people have had to do multiple returns though.

2.3/256/16RAM LG.

Getting a BTO Mac in mexico was a LONG wait.

15 minutes?! Mine needed 3-5 at most. They better fix this. I don't care if they replace the display or the entire machine.

As someone who works with Adobe CS constantly this is not acceptable for a machine I paid 40000MXN for. That's around 3200 USD.

Makes perfect sense though because information is so easy to control. /sarcasm

I have had 4 rMBP so far (3 replacements).I was lucky once (1st replacement) to get a Samsung, however it had a pressure mark. The rest were all LG, all with quite nice screens (no yellow tints, bright, white), but all with visible IR after 10-15 minutes straight out of the box.

Right now I'm considering what to do now, because I really don't see big chance of getting a Samsung now, it seems much less than 50/50 chance to get.
