The most frustrating thing is Apple are never held accountable for this sort of issue. It happens so often with new OS releases that it almost feels like it's a deliberate ploy to make people who don't know any better upgrade to a new model.
Introducing bugs to bother your customers so that they buy more of your products would be an interesting strategy. :D

So this is an odd coincidence. My iphone 15 PM IOS17.0.2 and AW Series 7 AWOS 10.0.2 seemed to be insync today with it's battery drain. Both are now at 79%. ANd they both seemed to be draining at the same rate.

Series 7 with 10.0.2? I thought it was a Ultra 2 / Series 9 thing?

0730 - started the day at 100%

Went for a 46min run which was tracked

It's now 1810 and my battery is at 47%

Seems on-par for my AW6

I think anyone who updated to 10.*.* Is impacted by batt drain issue.
I don't think so.
My U2 is not impacted, my S5 was.
I think older watches are more impacted.
Some people have no problems at all. For the moment, there is no clear root cause. We all suspect something related to data sync, GPS problem ...
But no one can explain
Resetting the watch "as new" does nothing, so it's probably an issue between the iPhone and the watch.

Same issue on my S5. 10.0.1 didn't make a difference. Tried resets, removing all widgets, weather location sync suggestion on the phone, nothing works.

Can't get a full day out of it anymore, basically can't use it like a watch.

On the plus side, no real issues with battery on my iPhone 12 Pro with iOS 17.

I'm having battery drain on my Apple Watch Ultra with 10.0.1. I removed all widgets but still, if I leave it on the desk not wearing it during the night, it will drain by 30% in 8 hours. Doing absolutely nothing.

I reckon there is no real fix for that yet? When I switched from the S8 to the Ultra and I was still on watchOS 9, I could go 2 full days without charging. Now I essentially need to charge every night. Which is not a huge issue, but still, it's worse than before.

I am not impacted anymore with my new Ultra 2, but I recommend all people who have a very important battery drain to complain at Apple Support.
Call them, chat them, send feedbacks.
Complain here is useless, no one has the solution. This battery issue is biggest that the weather widget not updating, and probably more complex to fix.
I am wondering why big sites like this one have not published an article ?
I have noticed they usually speak about a problem just before Apple has informed them the fix is coming.

I have no idea why it hasn't been reported on either, it is clearly a widespread issue that is getting completely ignored. I have been on Apple Support live chat and they told me my S4 watch needed a new battery because battery health is low. When I argued I was still easily getting a whole day usage in OS9 they just kept reiterating I needed a new battery and asked if I'd like to be put through to arrange a service repair. Talk about living in the future.

I have a S7 SS and a AWU1 - both on 10 (and now 10.0.1). Really strange. On the Release candidate (effectively 10.0.0), absolutely no issues.

Updated to 10.0.1 and the S7 was horrendous, AWU a little worse, but still got 36 ours out of it before i charged. S7 was about 8 hours 100-%>0%.

I have also noticed my iPhone (14pro) randomly gets really hot.

However, I unpaired and re-paired the S7, and installed only the bare minimum and it seems to be back to normal..ish. Today I have done 45 min Dog walk (AirPods through phone) and lost 25% in 5 hours - normal with no workout etc is about 4% so not unusual to lose 5% an hour.

My iPhone though is still randomly getting very, very warm.

Hmm well alright. I guess it's just something specific to some of us then. Strangely in fixing a unrelated issue with stickers. In that solution was to sign out of your devices apple accounts. REboot and sign back in. That fixed the iMessage sticker problem. But it's only a temporary fix as the issue returns hours later. Though my iphone stickers still seem to be working still next day. But my MacBook Air M2 the stickers stopped working again. But point being this also seemed to reduce the fast battery drain I was seeing on my iphone and watch. But I'm afraid it'll probably creep back in and start draining fast again.
I wonder if all these issues are related to icloud and syncing?

The only thing I noticed is when I unpaired my watch so I could setup from scratch, my phone kept asking me to enter my password. Which I did and it kept saying I was wrong. I’m not!

Moments later it stopped asking.

But using all iCloud services. Checking subscriptions and security all work so I am signed in.

No serious trouble here on battery. As with most recent iDevices and Android products for me, it has taken a face-plant in the first 36 hours in terms of battery life, I assume due to the usual excess "hard drive" activity after an update, but then settled down; it seems consistent with previous releases, two days or so on my Ultra, three on my iPhone, and no sign of overheating issues.

Serie 5 here, the day of the updated I used my watch a bit more than usual for sport so I thought it was the reason I got 0% before the end of day. But today, I got a regular day. Usually I have 20-30% at the end of day with 1h exercise. But today, the watch made a 100% to 0% in 10h and it is not even the end of day (6pm).

My S7 watch battery is going much faster than normal since the update.

This morning, after a 45 min workout and 2 hours total wear time, I was down to 55%. End of day with normal wearing, minimal use, I was down to 13%. This is far more battery use than normal, than before this new OS.

Someone here has tried to reset the iPhone and the watch few days ago .
Has the battery improved ?

Did it. Nothing improved. Even configured the watch as a new device (didn’t restore the backup). But I did restore the backup on my iPhone.

Update, so my new Ultra II is now on 72 hours this morning with 17% battery left. OS 10.0.2. This is absolutely amazing...

I have about 5 hours of training "running" and about 85K of steps.

I sleep with my watch, has puls/ heart rate notifications on all time.

Optimized Battery Charging off.

Optimized Charge Limit off.

AOD is off.

Blood Oxygen is off.

Weather - Walkie-Talkie - and some of my installed apps notifikation is set to off, include apps like health care card driver licens eg. Weather temperature at location is still showing on the watch face temp symbol.

Without any further optimizations, my Ultra 2 uses less than 1% battery per hour if I do not do GPS stuff. So in day-to-day use it could well last 4 days without low power mode or so. Not trying this out as I like running though.

For me it did and i am using S7. The day after the upgrade it went from 100% to 40% in 12 hours of use. Normally with the previous OSes it would lose 25-35% of charge and not 60%

I even don't use it that much. It have it on my wrist and use it to check notifications and time. Sometimes i use it as my remote for playing music of my iPhone on my APP. Normally i would start to wear it at around 08:00 till 20:00 and then switch over to my S0 as i use my S0 as sleeptracker. Occasionally i do a run with it but mostly i use my Garmin for running.

Second day after the upgrade i lost 10% in 1 hour and decided to do a clean install. After the clean install it went from 100% to 74% in 8 hours of wearing it.

Second day after the clean install from 100% to 63% in 12 hours and the third day after clean install from 100% to 72%. The fourth day after clean install from 72% to 41%. So those are numbers which are comparable to the previous WatchOS numbers.

The second day and the third day i was travelling around so the GPS was probably detecting the location a bit more for the weather complication.

Edit : i just realised you meant also resetting the iPhone and i only did a reset of the Watch 🤦‍♂️

Yes, a lot of people have reset the watch many times, but someone has also reset the iPhone.
For me the problem comes from something broken in data sync.
It can also be some iCloud stuff
