I removed my saved offline playlists which solved most of my battery issues but it seems to have gotten worse again 😵‍💫

Weird. So it most probably is a different problem. Or another one.

I have an Ultra (1) but never had WatchOS9 on it. Installing 10.2 Beta 3 made a surprising difference to battery life.

The only third party apps I use are Spotify and Stocard from memory. I do use the smart stack.

Just adding a data point: AWU2 on 10.1.1. Compared to my AW5 battery is pretty amazing. From a battery standpoint, I am averaging about 2.2% life/hour. ( This might improve when I quit playing with the new toy.) Cellular off, but everything else on. Right now I use 30% during the day, so charging every other night.

Odd coincidence: I use 30% per day on my 15Pro Max too . . .

I just removed the more dynamic parts (weather and news) from the stacks and it seems to initially have made a big difference to my battery life.
The average has been 2.9% but now registering 1.6% per hour. All I have in my stack is calendar, fitness, 3 app icons now.
This is with a S6 bought on release with no battery replacement.

My wife has the original SE. She kept her watch on 9.6.3 and everything was fine. Last night out of the blue her watch went from 100% overnight to 50%. She got it charged to about 80% before she left for work. By the time she got to work it was back to 50% and ended up running out of battery by early afternoon.

She charged it up tonight and decided to update it to 10.1.1 so at least it's up to date. The watch only charged to 83% before stopping due to overheating (that's what the battery section said)

Like, this is so random and weird.

Im now on 10.2 Beta 4 but it still doesn’t seem to be fixed. Lost over 10% in less than 2 hours. It’s unbelievable.

Well after Apple forced the Beta on me through the update I'm on 10.2. It did solve the battery issue for a while, but that has since come back. Noticed it yesterday, and this morning it only charged to 70%. I know last time I had to restart it before I'd charge it at night so I'll try that again tonight. Now my battery is at 55% since taking it off the charger at 7:30 or so. With one report saying 10.2 Beta 4 doesn't fix it, I don't have high hopes there. SO ANNOYING by Apple here.

Why won't Apple give us the software option to revert back to Watch OS9? They're the one's who forced the beta upon me, I didn't select it and had Beta updates turned off. It's ridiculous they make you send it in for them to manually do it there. Sorry for the rant, but this essentially makes my Apple Watch useless and it's Apple's own fault.

Apple didn't force you to download the beta. :D

Yup, my fault there for not reading and assuming (I know what that makes me haha) it was a legit release and not the Beta. But I did have it turned off, so shouldn't have had to. Apple's fault there.

And I just want Apple to give us the software option to revert back. Why won't they?

Rollbacks are very often not possible because some data is migrated from version n to n+1 and it’s very hard to have the reverse migration.
The watch is also linked to the iOS version and iOS data.
So it’s very complex to handle all scenarios.
By the way, I am convinced the issue is not only in watchOS, it’s more probably a sync issue between iOS and watchos.
it´s the only explanation that it fails for some people and works nice for most of them

Think it's worth it to send it back at this point? It's crazy to me Apple hasn't fully fixed this yet, and we're still experiencing the issue. Those couple days before the 10.2 fixed worked till now the Watch was pretty much useless.

This has become quite a long thread. For the people who have brought their watches to an Apple store with these issues, have they said anything? What are they doing to handle it?

Fortunately I am still on 10.0.2 on both my UW2 and my AW8. I have auto update shut off and I always give these things a few weeks before updating. It became obvious early into this update that there were some bad battery issues for a significant number of people here.

And you also have a lot of people who have no problems or problems fixed by 10.1.x ...
You can't give general rules based on complaints. On this thread most people have issues, it's the thread for people who have battery problems ...
When an issue is very common, it makes a lot of noise (and it's amplified if it's Apple).
You have a lot of sites, influencers who are ready to create the new XXX-gate !
Battery problems with watchOS10 are not so spread if we believe the little level of noise except in such threads.

I've seen a lot of complaints on Reddit and other places but yeah. We and those folks represent a very, very small portion of the many millions of watch owners. And of course some have issues and never complain about it or wouldn't know how if they wanted to.

Be careful, I am not minimizing your issues or saying they don't exist !
I am just mitigating some general assumptions here.
A lot of people here are behaving like if watchOS10 is a general mess that eats battery for every one.
Of course it's not the case.
Apple has a lot of telemetry and has probably a lot of stats of what's working and not working.
They have already fixed some problems for a lot of people but I know there are also some people without any solution ...

If you're replying to me, then you misunderstand me. I wasn't saying that you said that they don't exist. Just that you're right that we need to keep in mind that this is really a very small subset of the apple watch owning population. We don't have any actual data to suggest how widespread a problem this is. Only Apple has that.

Pre OS 10 I could manage around 60 to 70 hours out of my ultra.

On OS 10 I could barely make it 40ish hours.

Out of frustration I wiped the watch and set it up as new a few days ago. I’m on my second charge cycle and sitting at 33% after 45 hours.

Well, I’ve got a solution… They’ve done it. They‘ve broken my will, and I’ve gone ahead and ordered the Apple Watch Ultra 2…

Hope this fixes my issues I’ve had with my Series 7…

Dare I say updating it to Watch OS 10 Beta 4 worked (*knocks on wood), at least for now? Since the other night only charged it to 70%, I restarted the Watch then charged it over night. Of course it was below 50%, so I needed to approve the update and did it yesterday morning when I woke up. After the update, restarted both my Watch and iPhone. At first it drained pretty quickly too, but then seemed to stabilize soon after that. Charged it like normal last night, and so far this morning it's working as it should be.

Oh boy, it’s now the second day I wear my new Ultra 2 and it’s just awesome. Right now I used it for like two hours (configured watch faces…) and the battery is still at 100%! On my previous S7 I would’ve been at like 90% after 2 hours (without any usage).

And I really love the bold design and the titanium - that’s why I’ve ordered a iPhone 15 Pro in natural titanium, too. 🙈🙈🙈

But still - not happy about what Apple did here with the “old watches” and watchOS 10.

Hi Tim, can you please have your team fix the battery drain issue instead of wasting time on here suggesting we buy new watches.
