Like it or not, the ports are an enormous issue, especially given the price. I was ready to buy on day one, until I saw the pricing. Apple seriously wants me to drop money on dongles after charging what they are?

Instead of placing my order, I closed by browser. Will I still buy? I might, but it has caused me to seriously consider a a Windows 10 based product, which are literally half the price for a high quality product.

Then get your Windows and move on. What's stopping you instead of coming here and complaining? Windows based product always has the option of having half the price. What changed? You know what Windows laptop also had that Macbook Pro didn't back in 2012? DVD ROM and ethernet. Apple's message is clear. They are ditching the old tech, and they are not going back just cause you are complaining. Some of us sees the potential of having USB-C ports that can be used for almost everything just by having dongles instead of having ports that's permanently stuck with its designated function.

which are literally half the price for better hardware
Can you name a Windows Based Laptop that has the same specs, build quality , battery life and portability (give or take 150 grams as you have mentioned) that costs half the price of The Base line 13 inch Macbook Pro

So $750 for
Intel i5 2.0 Ghz
8 GB RAM
256 GB PCIE SSD
Full Aluminum build (or something along the online)
QHD Screen
10 Hour Battery Back up.

I really want to know which laptop people refer to when they talk about half the price. The Closest you can get is Dell XPS 13 and HP Specter, which both are above $1000 for the above given spec (Here in netherlands, with above spec, Dell XPS 13 costs 1500 Euro and has an FHD screen, and not QHD )

It's not either/or. They could easily have kept one measly USB A port, or supplied some connector/dongle/whatever in the box. But they didn't even put the power cable in the box. Whoever heard of spending thousands on something that doesn't even come with a ****ing power cable??

Apple's message is clear. In the words of Henry Hill in Good fellas..."**** you. Pay me."

Apple users are a whiny, spoiled bunch.
To be fair, I would bet that a lot of people on this forum, especially on the news page, aren't Apple users at all. Some are trolls or out of work stand up comedians testing material no one would pay for.

As you may know, anything negative about Apple is click bait. Our local NBC news channel has been sensationalizing an old story for at least 3 days about the iPhone's Home Button. No, they won't really tell us the problem until tonight, but it gets Apple fans and haters lined up to watch.

There are legitimate gripes about any hardware introduced by any company, its just that places like this site blow them out of proportion. Heck, watch a re-run of Top Gear some time and watch them rag on dream cars. At the end of the day, we have Windows if we hate what Apple is doing. No one is stuck with Apple unless they built up their own walls. We use Windows at work and I would pay more money for computers that require dongles to avoid it at home.

Ok, I joined this forum last Monday when I ordered The New Macbook Pro 2016 w/o touch bar. This will be my first apple product and I come from a history of using Windows Machines. I have spent a lot of time reading posts on this forum. Some people have raised genuine issues, like Louis's video showing dropping of WiFi signals, the keyboard, the clicking sound that cant be turned off, or the fact they no longer add extension cable in the box. But then, there is majority of the posts complaining about the PORTS !!!!! Every day some one comes up and adds a new post complaining about the lack of ports. Then there are people that come in and complaint saying "They made no improvements, just removed the ports"
Seriously ?
SERIOUSLY !!
Better Screen, Better Sound, Better SSD,Better CPU and iGPU and better GPU in 15inch, better form factor seems like nothing to you guys ?

And then there are bunch of people posting about how they cancelled their orders or returned their Macbook Pro. The similarity in all of them, they have a recent MBPr or rMB(mostly 2015 model) , which is working perfectly for them, yet they ordered a new one, once they get it they realize they dont need it because they already have a perfectly functional machine. And then they return it and complaint about the new Macbook Pro. People saying they returned it because it lacked ports, How can you not know that before buying the machine.....

Those people who actually needed a new machine seem to be happy with their purchase, while those who did not need it or do not intend to buy it are complaining non stop
The amount of whining and complaining is really getting ridiculous on this forum. This has to be the most negative place on the Internet. Even when there is a post specifically aimed at discussing the positives of the new macbook's, some one comes in and start posting why they hate it. Everyone gets it, the machine lacks ports, I am not trying to defend the laptop here, I think apple made some stupid design decision with this particular refresh, but come on, its been 10 days since the release, everyone knows it lacks the basic ports. STOP COMPLAINING NON STOP 24/7. I would love to hear genuine issues the machine has on real problems people are facing, but every other post you open about this machine, you have people complaining non stop about the lack of ports ....

Phil, is that you?

No it is not getting ridiculous. What is getting ridiculous is how Apple fanatics continue to defend and justify terrible design choices and price. We need more of an uproar so Apple gets back to work and introduce a worthwhile product next time. If you remain complacent then they will continue down this god forsaken path.

I agree! This is a Mac forum though and it's loaded with hard core fanatics who will buy anything Apple puts out without a 2nd thought and regardless of price..

But there are plenty of hardcore Apple fans bent out of shape over Apples direction and that is what the OP is complaining about.. So this is a complaint thread about complaining...

Okay, I guess i complained now so I am good to go in this thread... LOL

You just got married.

Many people complaining in the forums have been in a relationship with Apple for years. Even though one could argue that Apple has always dictated the terms in the relationship, 'the price of agreement' and 'changes in terms have never been this drastic,' that the benefits of being in the relationship appears to serve just one party.

I think Mac Pro users have been very patient and it doesn't take a genius to know the basic demands most Pro users often request.

The whining and bitterness are simply symptoms of the relationship falling apart because their needs haven't being met

Oh, you live in Europe, great, we can talk Euros then. You want it let's have it :)

I maxed out and ordered the 13", with 16GB ram, best processor, 1TB SSD. And then there is the ****ton of adapters and YES, do not tell me they don't count there is literally about nothing running TB3 right now so it's needed : 2 power extension cords, 1 extra charger charger (because I can't use my dock at work, yeepee), one USB-C to usb-A for portability, one gigabit ethernet adapter, one TB3 to lightning because you know, I like to plus my ****ING IPHONE LATEST GEN, 2 adapters TB3 to HDMI (very expensive, about 90 euros EACH here in Norway).

Cost : 34801 NOK, which is 3830 Euros ( and actually more, it's just that the kroner is very low. At its previous level it would have been 4200/4300 euros, but let's ignore that for a moment ).

Maxed out Razer Stealth Blade, which has :
- Kaby Lake because yes, it's possible.
- 16GB LPDDR3 ( same as MBP )
- SSD 1 TB
- Same thin factor
- A goddamn 4k screen while mbp has the same resolution as before.
- ALL THE PORTS YOU NEED.
- 150 grams heavier (oooh, my back won't tolerate it !!)
- possibility for Razer Core.
- no idea about the battery (and before you say it, we have no idea about the battery in the maxed out MBP13 by the way, but for sure it won't be "10 hours".

Total = 2000 euros

So 1830 euros less, but with better screen and better portability (no stupid dongles).
How, and you can put a Razer Core on it, if you like to game. And even with the most ridiculous, most expensive Graphic card, at 800 euros, it WILL STILL BE. MUCH. CHEAPER.

I, and many others, whined when the optical drive was removed. Many whined when the floppy drive was removed. Apple isn't going to let a bunch of whiners set their path.

Sales #s might do it in the iPhone line up, but they have their own vision and I haven't seen them say..."you know what, uofmtiger was complaining about the lack of an optical disc on Macrumors, I think we should add it back to our next model".

The 32GB issue will resolve itself when there is a suitable chip on the market that meets their needs for battery life. The market will eventually move to USB-C, so that will resolve itself, as well.

Those were single issues and a larger segment of MacBook users had moved on from those technologies. Virtually everyone is still on USB 2/3. Has there ever been a MacBook launch that got rid of this many features?

USB 2/3
HDMI
SD Card
Magsafe
Keyboard
All on top of a ridiculous price hike?

Agree with this analogy.. I got my 1st Macbook back in 2007. I actually still have and use a @mac.com email address... I don't think you've been able to get the @mac.com address for several years now... It funny how the 'so called' hardcore users are trying so hard to discredit anyone who does not see value in the new Macbooks but oh well...

The new MacBook Pro still supports USB 2 and 3, HDMI can be had through a USB-C adapter, and it still has a keyboard. And yes, the original MacBook Pro, unibody MacBook Pro, and MacBook Pro with Retina Display were more expensive than their predecessors at time of launch.

There was no way to use an optical or floppy without a very large portable device. The USB 2/3, HDMI, and SD Card can all be accomplished with one multiport device that fits in the front pocket of a dress shirt, so in that case, it was much more cumbersome to carry an optical drive with you.

The magsafe was sacrificed so that you could plug in on either side of the laptop and have a port that works for more than just charging. Maybe people won't be tripping all over it if it is on the same side of the computer as the power outlet. Griffin will probably solve this issue with something similar in due time.

I can't comment on the keyboard because I haven't used it. That may be the thing that has me join up with all the whining in the future, but I will just wait and see.

Was the price hike this much? And yes everything can work still with a bunch of adapters, you could also connect external DVD drives to the older models too, that is all besides the point.

Emm are we comparing the touch bar or non touch bar, lets go with non touch bar because thats the one I had in my initial question
Wow, first you take MBPr's price in NOK and then comparing its price to Razor Blades stealth in Europe.
Lets to make this argument more apples to apples, measure the prices for Germany (Because Razor Blade Stealth is only sold in Germany, France and UK in Europe).

Razor Blade Stealth maxed out : 2.199,99€
Macbook Pro 13 inch w/o touch bar maxed out (Your mentioned specs) : 3019,00€

So please get the prices for the same country before comparing them, so no its not half the price, there is difference of less than a 1000€ which makes the difference less than 1/3rd
Secondly, In your macbook Pro's purchase, you add additional costs of (not counting dongles)
2 extensions cord
1 extra charging brick
Why ? Why not add the price of an extra charger to Razor Blade stealth, i get 1 extra extension cord, so lets add 25 euro in price of Macbook Pro
one gigabit ethernet adapter- Does not count, since you need that with Razor Blade Stealth as well
one TB3 to lightning - 25 Euro
Tb3 - HDMI - 59 Euro (this includes a USB A so you dont need that separately )

So that is an additional 109 EUro, Add that to the price of Macbook Pro - 3128. So its just a little over a 1000 Euro more expensive, still 2/3rd the price of a Macbook Pro, not half....

Not to mention you can get all the above mentioned dongles from a third party for 40 euro (all in one hub). But lets for sake of argument stick with the official apple prices. Still 2/3rd the price, Not half.

Unless you start adding tons of extra accessories to the Macbook Pro, and not even quote the actual price of the Razor Blade Stealth (without any accessories ). Then sure it may be half as cheap

Was the price hike this much? And yes everything can work still with a bunch of adapters, you could also connect external DVD drives to the older models too, that is all besides the point.
Proportionally speaking, yes. And what exactly is your point? Because I look at the 2016 MacBook Pro and I see four ports that can do anything I want. They can be used to charge the computer, output high definition video, transfer data at blazing fast speeds, and connect card readers.
