So the last couple of months almost everyone was convinced that the ears would have a black background and blend in with the black notch. Also, almost everyone thought the dummy models were wrong in showing a white front bezel and that all models would get a black front, similar to what Samsung did with the S8.

After yesterday's leak I've gotten convinced that the white bezel iPhone 8 will happen. The info Bloomberg presented is so detailed that I really feel they've seen what the end product will look like. Apple will embrace the notch (which already seemed apparent due to the glyph in the HomePod leak) and internally the software part even has a nickname (ears). If you then take into account that almost all Apple stock apps (Phone, Messages, Music, Mail, Calendar, Settings, Health, Photos, etc) are completely white with some colour accents, I think a white bezel iPhone seems a given. Here is an example of how most of the OS would look like:

In my opinion it totally makes sense. My theory is always, the iPhone looks best in black with the screen turned off, but with the screen turned on the white bezel blends better with the interface. Next to that, Apple's favourite colour is white and the embracing of the notch will be very obvious on a white iPhone.

Just 2 more weeks and we'll know for certain. I know many people think the white bezel looks very ugly on the dummy models (which have the screen off), but don't be too shocked to see it presented during the keynote.

First off, I know colour is totally subjective. I've always preferred white or brighter coloured iPhones. Loved the white iPhone 4/4S. With this new OLED iPhone I'd love to see a white glass back again, but was hoping the front would be black just to keep the screen blending as much as possible. But seeing this I'm in love with the white front bezel.

Yeah I was thinking that the black one was going to be the obvious choice, but now I'm not so sure.

Also, when you think about it. In black this phone looks identical from the front in comparison to the regular iPhone 7 when both have their screens off. So I can imagine Apple promoting the white iPhone even more than the black this year to highlight the screen.

Well they better have the screen temperatures calibrated proper this time round otherwise it'll be yellow against white

Well, Night Shift screws it up anyways :) And the white bezels always change colour depending on environmental lightning, so there will always be a colour mismatch with the UI.

I agree, whether you like it or not, it will have white bezels in front, other than the black iPhone

As much as I don't mind the white nor do I expect only black, a detailed rumor means nothing.

I'll just make up details that logically make sense. Is my rumor more accurate now?

I don't mind it if the silver had a white back like the 4/4S

But on the copper it looks stupid, black would look far nicer with the copper back and the OLED screen.

I swap colours almost every year so white is due this year for me

3G White
3GS Black
4 Black
4S White
5 Black (slate)
5S White (gold)
6 Black (space grey)
6S White (Gold)
7 Black (Jet black)
X Edition ????

That was also exactly my reasons, with the screen not in action it looks a little bad but when using it’s gone, I’ve been using a white front iPhone for years now and do not regret :)

i'm actually starting to prefer the white version. the black seems boring to me.
probably doesn't help that all my phones since the first iPhone had a black front..

Obviously many want a black bezel as this blends in better with the display. But there have been plenty of renders/mock ups with the white front bezel, and personally I have no issue with it. It's no different for me Being I owned an iPhone with a silver with a white bezel and Gold with a white bezel.

honestly looking at that and seeing how it blends in well and should with the screen on I might have changed my mind on going black basically 7 of the last 9 years I've had iPhones.

Front should be black and back coloured, would look great for any colour and keep that screen oh so nice.

The iPhone Edition will only have a black front. Even if Apple 'embraces the notch'. Please see Apple Watch.

As an aside, I cannot fathom Jony's team and himself being so careless with design to show the notch. The Apple Watch as an example only comes with black fronts. It was specifically designed to have UI that hides the bezels as much as possible. It's stated right in Apple's UI developer suggestions, and it's been stated by executives. Not only this, but Apple fundamental design methodology is symmetry. So Apple is going from a deliberate design choice in hiding bezels on the Watch, to a deliberate design choice to accentuate the notch? It's so absurd that I will not believe it until I see Apple show it, even though the highly accurate Mark Gurman reported its to be.

I quite liked the look of the blush gold we've seen and I'll be wanting to alternate from black this year. But that white looks very smart. It probably won't look half as good with the screen off, nothing will match a black front for that. But that doesn't bother me, when 99% of the time I'll be looking at it with the screen on. I'd definitely buy a full white iPhone.

Honestly with those "ears" it'll look bad (to my mind) with black or white. However you can take the same approach you always would to determine whether the white or black face looks better, with the display on. When the display is off, the black obviously looks better, due the notch.

I for one, will be going with black, and then jailbreaking and adding a black bar across the ears, to make it uniform like the previous leaks claimed for a period of time. I'll be happy then.

I agree that since this is clearly a slightly darker (or imo more masculine) version of rose gold, that they should also be introducing it with a black face. I understand why they are not though, because the gold option has always come with a white face.

Having had hands on experience with the Samsung Galaxy 8 Plus, I really wish that Apple could expand on the concept of the "InfinityEdge" display by having the screen go all the way out to the edges of the phone so there is no visible bezel... one can dream right?

it's OLED, keeping the interface white is gonna kill the battery so fast. the more black, the better.

Which is why there is the "Smart Invert" feature. Not everyone wants a dark theme, try using a dark theme in a sunny day, you won't see anything
