Could some of you guys please post the build number of 10.5.6 that came pre-installed on your new white Nvidia MacBook?

(The reason I ask is because I'm thinking about getting one, and I just want to swap my old MacBook's hard drive into the new one. This will not be possible if the 10.5.6 that comes pre-installed on the white Nvidia MacBook has a different build number from the 10.5.6 build that I'm using.)

Good price and value. Imagine that from Apple. *gasp*. Of course you still only save $50 with the ed discount. It would be a good purchase this summer if they still plan on updating the White MBs and not phasing them out.

imho the intel graphics are dead. these low end nvidia chips perform milestones better and at the same cost. Intel is going to have to pull a rabbit out of thier hat to get themselves out of this one.

Build to order on Apple's site wants $49.00 for iLife '09. I thought wehn you buy a new Mac after this Tuesday, iLife '09 is pre-installed. Not another $9.99 for upgrade.

No that's iWork you have to pay for. iLife comes preinstalled for free on all Macs.

i must say, i have laptop envy. I want that WhiteBook, mines is only about 34 days old. :(

If you bought it from an Apple Store, try returning it ASAP, as in TODAY. Pay the restocking fee, as it will be well worth every penny.

I'm not an owner - but I played around with it for a while last night at the Apple Store. I also wanted to check out the new iLife '09 (which comes loaded with it).

Really, nice. It's a great value now. If I had to buy, I would've not wanted to invest in the already out-dated x3100 graphics (my el-cheapo $379 Acer laptop I bought over the Holidays has the newest x4500M).

The nVidia chipset is sooo much better, and this mere $999 MacBook has FW (runs and hides).

Wish it came in Black.... :(

Great value - on to Snow Leopard and an Aluminum one for $999!!!

System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.6 (9G2110)

I think it looks nice, but I'll never buy another plastic laptop from Apple! The case on mine has been replaced 3 times (well the inside, outside only once) and all 3 times I had cracks in at least 3 places. And I baby this thing like nothing else. But I'm still happy with it :D

thanks for the pics ZachsMacDaddy,

will be getting mine sometime 2nd or 3rd week this month. Am thinking of getting the marware palmrest protector as well.

the whitebook has great bang for the buck..

Has anyone tried any of those hard colored cases for them? Will the old whitebook ones fit? Actually, thinking back, alot of people said you couldn't open the screen to far with them on, is that still true? Thanks!

I used an Incase Hardshell on my previous white Macbook. It fit great. I had it on for a few months and when I took it off there was no scratching or damage to the laptop.

The 1 downside is the one you mentioned. The screen does not go back as far as it does without the shell. That didn't bother me too much at first since it was good enough for how I liked it most of the time, but eventually it became annoying depending on how/where I used my Macbook if I couldn't open it enough to get the best viewing angle.

I like the look of the Moshi palmguard. My 1.83GHz Macbook never cracked in the year+ that I used it, but now that this laptop is my primary computer I may invest in a Moshi so I can feel more comfortable in knowing that the wrist area is covered and protected (at least somewhat protected).

This seems like a genuinely good update to the WhiteBook and keeping it at the same price point makes it a great offer for most people shopping for a MacBook. Most of the benefits of the AluBook with some obvious "pluses" like the FW port and Cost and some obvious trade-offs like the lower quality screen, DDR2 and lack of unibody design.

Since these are using the same Nvidia chipset and the MCP supports DDR/DDR2 and DDR3 natively, I would guess DDR3 would work in the new WhiteBooks - unless it was purposefully disabled... Curious to see if anyone could confirm this.

As others have posted in previous threads, DDR3 is a different pinout.
