wow I just had to post this one..

Ok i was in MSN messenger with a friend and he asked me why I did not go to a website we used to frequent anymore, I said now I got to macrumors.com, and this is the conversation from the point I mentioned this thread:

Note: I am PC=Bad, my friend is the other person in the convo.

PC=Bad says:
https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26640&perpage=25&pagenumber=1
PC=Bad says:
I am the creator of that thread, Tazo
NAME CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT
lol
NAME CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT
What IS Mac?
PC=Bad says:
are u joking?
NAME CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT
I'm honestly not I've never really known...
NAME CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT
I've had a PC since I was about 9, so I've never looked into Macs
PC=Bad says:
you dont know what an Apple is?
NAME CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT
I just thought it was a make of PC I only ever saw like, 1, and that was before we bought the PC. Didn'; know any better
PC=Bad says:
ok I don't even know where to begin
PC=Bad says:
ok
PC=Bad says:
umm
PC=Bad says:
are you in the uk?
PC=Bad says:
well no matter
PC=Bad says:
http://www.apple.com/store
PC=Bad says:
Apples are the most reliable computers. They don't crash as often as PC's, they look much cooler, they are faster in some things, they come with a bunch of great free applications, and many other great features.
NAME CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT
Cool
NAME CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT
How much are they#?
PC=Bad says:
Macs also maintain a resale value unknown to the pc user world, due to the fact that they (Apple) do not come out with a new model every other week
PC=Bad says:
There cheapest computer is 800 US dollars, although a refurbished one of the same model is about 700 US dollars
NAME CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT
lol
PC=Bad says:
They go from about 800-over 3000 USD
NAME CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT
F**K
PC=Bad says:
Well if you look at Dell they also sell similarly priced computers
NAME CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT
I got my PC for £470. About 700 dollars, I think
PC=Bad says:
True, but that is not the top of the line is it?
PC=Bad says:
I am sure the 800 dollar machine I mentioned would be more than comparable to your machine. And remember
NAME CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT
Top of the line would cost about 1400
PC=Bad says:
um no
NAME CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT
I had about 500 lol
PC=Bad says:
go to dell.com or something, go look at there top of the line 8250 line. Put 1 gig of ram in there, their fastest processor, a dvd burner, at least 120 gigs of hard drive, and you will come pretty close to the top of t he line apple
PC=Bad says:
Also, that 3000 dollar computer also contains their top of the line specs, its not like that is there bottom of the line entry level computer.
PC=Bad says:
ahh why am I telling this to you. anyway. You are just going to start saying things like "macs suck. i can get a cheaper pc."
NAME CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT
I dunno, I'm open to new things
NAME CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT
I just know nothing at all about Macs
PC=Bad says:
well thats good
PC=Bad says:
go browse arround Apple.com
PC=Bad says:
learn about em
PC=Bad says:

He said he would go and find a virus and give it to me on disk so i could "willingly" infect my machine.

This was 3 weeks ago, i'm still waiting...

On a windows machine all i would need to do is open Kazaa.

Hey, I got a virus for Mac OS X in my email a few weeks back. It was a virus 'on the honor system'. The contents of the email was a simple text message:

This is an email virus for Mac OS X. It works on the honor system. Please start deleting random files on your system and forward this message to everyone in your address book.

Ok people new question still related to it:

Do you get mad when your friends or colleagues or what not make these statements? If not, how do you broach the subject? Do you try and calmly tell them the error of their ways? Or rather do you just scoff and walk away?]

I am quite interested to know. However still keep the original pc user statements coming!

"Wow, it's a real computer? I didn't think those were real."

- My friend, upon seeing blueberry iMac DV.

"Do it again!"

- Above friend, after seeing Dock Magnification for the first time.

Damn good question, one that I think needed to be asked.

I'll tell you what I do when confronted with a clearly biased question/statement:

I put on my consulting hat and ask with all sincerity: "What makes you say that?" or "Why do you think that?"

Then I wait for an answer, usually at this point, due to my non-fanatical response (they were expecting a knee-jerk), they stutter a second, and their mind opens a bit.

And we talk about it...

Patrick,

I am glad to see that you take the subject at hand and deal with it calmly. I have heard an administator at my school, an avid mac user, curse people because they asked what we would consider, a dumb question. If more mac users behaved like you and I do, dealing calmly with the issues PC users face upon entering mac-land, then much less confusion would be created. Just my 2 cents.

I do the mostly the same. When it's someone who just doesn't know, I give an amused smile then try to show them that the mac can do otherwise.

However, my friends who usually opening attack my mac (even though it's built them web sites and promo videos), get the phrase "you're an idiot..." and a small head shake in amazement. Then we usually laugh and everything moves on.

-Gents (tazo, DreaminDirector)

I find that most people don't like being fooled, and additionally can't live with the knowledge that that may have happened.

My asking "What makes you say that?" or "Why do you think that?" opens the door in their mind that maybe they bought into some marketing, and more often than not, they'll lose the smirk, pull up a chair, and ask me to show them something.

Yes, I'm preying on their insecurities, but, with the Wintel Hegemony publically throwing billions at the marketing machine, am I really preying? Or simply providing an alternative.

Now think about what I just said - that, is what I provide to the biased smirker.

And, at least, they seem to listen. Level-headedness always keeps respect - even if that respect is a "surface-charge" respect.

I always start from a level headed stand point. In general, I call myself a Mac Advocate, as distiguished from a Mac Fan. As a Mac Advocate, I consider it my job to educate others as to the strengths of Macintosh computers, and also to their weaknesses. I've had several friends that have come to me seeking advice about what kind of computer to buy. After talking to them for a little while, I determined that a PC really was what they needed for whatever reason, and to suggest that they buy a Mac would have done them a disservice, and added one more person to the ranks of people who say 'Macs Suck!'. And even in instances like these, I always say 'well, if you didn't have to do XYZ, I'd recommend that you get a Mac for these reasons... But, since you do have to do XYZ, you clearly need to run Windows, so the system I'd recommend would be...'. They leave with an understanding that Macs are capable of doing everything that Windows is capable of, but there are some minor compatibility issues. ('XYZ' is usually a piece of software that they need to be able to run for compatibilty with work or school, or what-have-you. Yes, I could suggest VPC, but I have many reasons to be reluctant to do this, among others, for someone who isn't very computer literate, I really find VPC too much of a load.)

Oh, here's a great one! I just admitted to myself that a 512mb SO-DIMM for my 12PB is irresistable at $100 to buy now, instead of waiting for the 1gb SO-DIMMs to get reasonable, so I ordered one.

I then went to my IT department looking for the mini-screwdrivers that I will need when it get's here tomorrow.

The comment when I asked was:

"I don't think I have any screwdrivers that are Mac-Compatible."

I can see what he meant, he was wondering if there was a proprietary TORX-style screw, but the way he worded it was funny on so many levels.

Just repeat that to yourself a few times, it gets funnier every time.
"I don't think I have any screwdrivers that are Mac-Compatible."
"I don't think I have any screwdrivers that are Mac-Compatible."
"I don't think..."

tazo-dude,

Are you getting paid to keep this thread going? It's cool and all, but everytime I check in to see new posts it's you egging us on to keep posting when the thread has been quite for a few hours.;)

That being said, I asked the dumbest question I ever heard on about a Mac. Several years ago, when i was getting up the nerve to switch (back) to Macs after spending the '90's on PCs, I asked the dealer the infamous, "Can I use the internet in the same manner I can on the PC?"

From our point of view, it's a dumb question. From the point of view of someone who hadn't used an Apple since 1989, just a precautionary one. I mean, who would think that a video bought in Britain wouldn't work on a US TV? They're exactly the same, but through it in your machine and...

I get some really dumb question , cos where i have a part time job many people see my computer and u won't believe some of the questions!!!
I have a 233mhz imac:

1) "Where's the tower????" .........."No there is no Tower"..........."oh ok" (dumbass PC users)

2) "Is this computer made for playing songs?"

3) The floppy question is a popular question?

4) "My computer is WAY faster than yours because I am Windows and yours is only 233mhz"...........This question just irratates the hell out of me!!!

5) "You can't get any games for Mac and the ones u do get are like double the price, right?"

Well that is just a preview of some of the questions i get..... I do feel sorry for them(PC users) sometimes.

Okay, how about this...

I went over to Circuit City tonight to get a set of speakers to use with my iPod and my PowerBook. When I asked for external speakers, the store clerk asked me what kind of speakers I was looking for. I told him that I wanted a set of speakers to use with my iPod, and I held it up, and with my PowerBook. Then he said

"Oh. I'm sorry, we don't have any speakers that are compatible with Apples."

Well, I just asked where their computer speakers were, and he pointed to the area, but again assured me that they weren't compatible. I made one attempt to inform him to the contrary, but he was obstinant. Oh well. I got some nice speakers that I'm using to listen to my iPod right now...

I dunno how I forgot this one ..

The nimrod IT guy at the IT joint I worked at, when asked about using AirPort to hook up to their network: "I don't think your Apple will be able to use our pc router" There's no such thing as a pc-router, numb-nuts :rolleyes: This was a few minutes after I'd already gotten into their Win2K Adv. Server .. gee, administrator/password, there's a toughy.

He used to work for M$ back state-side though, which explains the lack of taste and brain cells.

See this is the area of ads that thw switcher campaign did cover. apple really needed to disestablish the erroneous idea that there is pc only hardware for like speakers, or routers. True the ads were humorous, but ifd you have seen that pciture where it says "if you build a mac designed for idiots, only idiots will want to use it", then one can realize where the ads went wrong. Apple in a sense has a good and bad ad department; good in that people remember them, bad in that they all dont live up to their full potential :cool:

Christ on a trike .. shove him out the window!!:rolleyes:

I can MAYBE understand people's confusion about PC > Mac emails and such, but hardware like routers and hubs .. that's just dumb.
