Oh no, if I turn the brightness up tyo 100%, and turn off the light and restart the iPad to show only the startup screen then I can see Blacklight bleeding. How stupid do you people sound?
Newsflash, most LCD’s have blacklight bleeding. Check it out on your TV.

I have owned 3G, 3GS, Iphone 4, iPad, iPad2 and the new iPad, a Macbook Pro, Airport Express, Apple TV and Apple TV3, and never had the amount of time wasting as some of you do with your products.
Do you do the samething when buying any other product, or are you just this anal about Apple products?

why do you guys care so much? glad you have perfect ipads, but others don't.

and don't give me the "added cost" excuse. ipad has not risen in price in three years, and have you seen the apple stock price recently?

who's really wasting their time; people trying to get a decent, highly priced product, or people who troll and criticize them? hmmmm......

The OP makes it sound like ALL ipads have this issue. Mine does not. Most other people do not. The fact that some people have to take extreme steps to find blacklight bleeding in the ipad 2 or the new one says it all there. They are trying to find a "perfect" ipad. Its like someone trying to find "Mr or Ms Perfect" Never gonna happen. Its like your never gonna be happy with your choice.

There is DEFINITELY a screen issue with MY new iPad

Screen picture - taken with iPhone 4S

I'm not sure if its just the photo, but I see a red/pink tint on the right half of the screen.

My iPad is similar, only it has this tint on the right side in portrait. To me, it isn't enough to warrant a return. Everything else is spot on.

Ive had to send mine in because of dead pixels

Some people have an eye for quality. ;)

In the audio world there are golden ears that hear different/better than others.
In visual word there are golden eyes that see different/ better than others.
Both groups share one trait. They are so full of themselves:D

No, the new iPad is perfectly fine. You just have OCD with everything.

Why are you bashing people for expecting perfection from Apple? You know who set this impossibly high standard? Apple did.

Apple has spent years (and millions in marketing) touting their amazing design and the incredible (almost impossible) quality of their products. We are supposed to look at their products as works of art - sleek, smooth, seamless, perhaps dropped here from another time by an advanced alien race. Their ads and other marketing collatoral include extreme close ups of every angle of the devices, all the better to make their customers salivate over their beauty.

It's absolutely fine that they've created this image - I love it. But then when you pick up one of these impossibly amazing devices and you see light leaking out of a gap in the casing, or an uneven hue on the screen, or dead pixels, you're right to be disappointed - Apple has not lived up to their own hype.

Excellent post and point.

Your point is well taken, but I submit the idea that in the volume they're making these things there's no way for them to avoid a certain percentage of imperfections. Remembr: we're on an Apple focused board. This is where people come to complain about their issues. In reality the percentage if iPads with legitimate problems is likely to be very low and well within industry standards.

Yawn. Every Apple product I've ever had has been perfect. If your screen has problems, return it. This will help you a lot more than whining about it here.

Yeah, that's kinda like saying "Most other people do not" have a problem with the iPad. As if someone could possibly know whether "most" people do or don't.

Oh wait, you said that.

lol ok buddy. remind me not to hire you for anything requiring good vision.

"uh I don't know what your talking about...bridges don't get washed out...AAAAARRRRGGGGGGHHHH!!!!"

This is the kind of brain donor comment that gives Apple fans a bad name.

There are some people who are very much into this stuff, and they are the ones who spend a lot of time worrying about it, and doing things about it. More power too them. They are an extremely small number, and statistically insignificant, so who cares.

Actually, Apple I imagine does care very much, as these same hard core users tend to be very vocal, so I would imagine Apple would want to keep them happy.

For the rest of us average users, best not to take any of this seriously, as you run the risk of joining their statistically insignificant numbers :D

You guys got good ones first time around. Be glad. I know what I see.

I would bet my house that your wrong, and that its you and not the ipad.

Seriously though, some just are more picky than others. I personally don't think I would ever notice things this small on my own, while some people need perfection in order to feel comfortable spending this much on a tablet.:)

And ironic isn't it, that if it weren't for Apple's skills at marketing this utopian perfectionism, their products wouldn't be as popular.

Sadly, I fear that numbers will win. We've seen it happening year after year. Instead of perfecting the methods of production, to produce ostensibly the same objects in a better way with each release, the increasing popularity seems to mean cutting costs and corners. And if the masses love Apple but don't really mind the defects, the defects will continue.

dude when your screen looks like this it isn't in your head.

I have the same problem as Aksta, althought not as bad. Pretty much the left side has a greenish tint while the right side has a pinkish tint. Once you start tilting the iPad and viewing at a slight angle, it becomes more prominent. The shift in color from green to pink and pink to green instead of being a constant white is really annoying. I thought I could live with it, but looks like i'm going to exchange it.

The one observation I have after browsing the forums and reading people's experiences with the screens and tinting issues is this:

IMO, most people have screens with minimal to no tint and no color issues.

IMO, some people have very real problems with both tinting and color issues.

IMO, some people have really bad luck when returning a bad iPad and having one or more of their replacements that are also bad.

IMO, there are a number of people who have received tinted or discolored displays and either don't care or don't have enough of an eye to even notice it.

And finally, IMO, there really is a small number of OCD people who are looking for flaws that really aren't there or are so minute as to warrant the eye rolling they are getting.

But one thing to keep in mind - the unit YOU received may or may not be the same as anyone else got, so generalizations are probably not valid.

Sweet! And I'll give you a crash course in Sarcasm 101! You can use your non-rolling eyes to learn about humor!:D

PS. If you read past the first sentence, you clearly see where I had wrote that some people need a perfect iPad in order to feel comfortable investing that much on a tablet. I said I was not like that, but I never said anything was wrong with that. Why would anyone keep something they were not happy with?

Here's my screen that Apple's repair technicians just deemed "meets Apple specifications for performance, usability, and functionality."

Those are some pretty low standards. I will be returning mine as soon as I get it back. I guess I'll either hop back to an iPad 2 or just wait for next year's release. So disappointed.

No, that's 15% of 800 Macrumors forum members.

And the significance is tempered by the fact Apple has an endless supply of replacements to correct any issues a small minority of users are facing. I don't mean to minimize your problem, but to say "Apple has a screen problem" is a bit of an overstatement... :D
Yes it's macrumours members, so? It's a good sample of statistics.

I agree 100% with this stance. The excuse that demand is so high, and that as a result production is at such a breakneck pace which inevitably will yield "acceptable" defects is garbage. There is no excuse for these screen issues. Apple as a company promotes itself as one which values quality. I can take a magnifying glass to my Rolex datejust and not find ANY FLAWS. At the very least, I should be able to pick up my iPad and not see any defects with the naked eye.

Also, the fact that the term "OCD" is being thrown around like a beach ball in a derogatory manner is utterly inflammatory. Do these people realize that this is a medical condition? The term you folks are looking for is "detail-oriented."

What would the world be like if we didn't have detail-oriented people to make the world go 'round? Do you realize that to build anything that works you have to be detail-oriented? Do you think that this forum would function if it weren't for the engineers that are making sure to write error-free code? What about the car that you drive? Would you like it if the engineers in charge of the safety features didn't worry about "details"?

To those folks who insist on using the term OCD, please realize that anything that you use, anything that you enjoy, whether you are listening to your favorite album, swinging your golf club, or surfing the internet, all of these things were created by people that, by your definition, have "OCD." These are the engineers, the perfectionists, the over-achievers, that stress every last detail so that they may produce something of quality and as a result we enjoy quality products that make our lives better and more enjoyable. Please stop using the term OCD, and have a little respect for us that take care of the details.

That is exactly what my screen looked like and why I chose to return it for a refund and use my iPad 2 until this summer to perhaps try again.

I enjoyed reading the Steve Jobs biography. With all his years of obsessing over minute details in his never-ending search for perfection, I can't help but wonder if he would have agreed with the repair technicians' conclusions. Somehow, I highly doubt it.
