Apple never created such a level of unrealistic, fanatical expectation, at least not intentionally. It's just that their products have been and continue to be great, and somewhere along the way people, in their minds, elevated them to almost mythical status. The quality of Apple products has not dropped as some want to believe. The expectations of today have just gone far beyond reason.

I looked at 7 iPads on display at the Apple Store in downtown Toronto today...

3 had the pink/green tint from one side to the other
2 had noticeable dark areas where the backlighting was inconsistent
2 had good looking screens

It's definitely a screen quality lottery.

pink/green?

Guys, I just put on a screen protector and while I was cleaning it I noticed a small dent on my screen. At first I thought it was a line of dead pixels or something, but upon closer inspection, it looks like it's that layer of the screen that helps you see it properly at difference angles, because if I moved around, the colors change, and so does the position of the line. It's so strange.

I feel like getting it exchanged now. :(

pink/green?

These are pretty good examples, they were posted earlier in this thread.

^^^ Thanks Blue Sun! These are excellent examples of the problem. This is what I had on the 3 iPads I purchased and returned. The displays look like crap.

Yeah exactly the same here. Those who for some reason deny that this problem is real for a percentage of screens only need to look at this. Some may accept this - I couldn't.

My latest one has a perfect screen although it has what looks like a soldering nick on the casing. Never mind, easily solved with a case from Piel Frama!

1/3 of my screen has a greenish tint

Its more apparent in real, camera sort of balance it out.

I notice it right away the viewing angle and uniformity is worse than ipad 2.

Will be visiting genius bar soon.. hopefully replacement will be perfect like the OP and most of you

i spend 90% of my ipad for reading and the shifting of colors to me its quite distracting..

Call me OCD or whatever but i have been pampered with a perfectly uniform screen on my iPad 2 for almost a whole year.. i think i deserved to get the same standard on my iPad3.

Just had mine swaped and the replacement is top notch!! No yellowing and certainly uniform all across.. Somehow this one have a much better viewing angle. I dont see Any discoloration at any angle. Im happy.

I've always wondered why people with out screen issues are the one that is more dismissive, destructive, aggressive and just out right rude. This happens to almost any screen related issue thread from any brand manufacturer. They refuse to believe that such issues exist but they also claim nothing is perfect and even spout about that only the extreme minority have such issues, if this is true then it should be almost impossible for any one person to get a problematic screen more than twice in a row.

Can anyone enlighten me why a lot of people behave like this, I've been with device that never had screen issues like others I dont 'bash' others because they were unlucky. I also dont find the need to frantically defend the product or just claim OCD.

Is it wrong to ask for a quality screen just like what the 'believed majority' are getting ?

A couple of points here that people may overlook.

If the screen is very close to D65, any parts of the screen that deviate even slightly will either look pinkish or bluish or greenish. If the screen is already quite blue, then a bit less blue, or a bit more blue, will just look like slight variances in light output. The more accurate the screen is towards a natural white point, the more visible errors become.

So it sounds like the majority of screens are very close to being D65 photo perfect, but they vary enough that the brain can comprehend parts of the screen as having a slight tint.

If they had just chosen a colour temperature more like 7500-8000K then the variances would have been far less visible.

So the ones that are reportedly "perfect" are one of 2 things
1) There is in fact some screens from LG or Sharp mixed in there, but a tiny minority
2) In fact the ones that are so called "good" are WAY off towards blue, so they look perfect when in fact they may be less accurate in terms of being close to D65 :)

It's simple really. They live in a "happy bubble". They don't want anyone or anything to threaten their bubble as it may burst. Oh no! What would they do then? You can even show them pictures of said issues and they still don't want to believe it can be true. It's just easier to pretend nothing is wrong and accuse the potential bubble burster of having OCD.

The reality is that they won the screen lottery and are ridiculing the ones who didn't.

I think I've got a bit of a green tinge at the top?

When you view the screen at an angle, it's yellowish

Take a chill pill, "Apple Corps".

And the vast majority of iPad 3 purchasers are ever so pleased with the quality of their new iPad. If you have a "screen problem" return it or swap it.

Why are you so adamant on berating people with legitimate problems? If you got a good screen, that's great. Go live your life. Some of us are just trying to exchange experiences and information. You know, it's kind of the whole reason forums exist.

If you don't believe there are screen issues after seeing all the pictures that have been posted here, then you're either in denial or just hard-headed. Nobody is saying your screen is bad; we're saying that ours are.

Here's mine for reference, yet again: https://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=332541&d=1332828956

You need to swap yours from that pic.

Btw when taking images what do you set the brightness too?

I collected my 4th replacement from the Apple Store in Glasgow today and it is completely different from the other three previous ones.

Screen is uniform white and bright. There is absolutely no colour change on tilting the screen. And a weird thing - the back feels and looks different - it's more matt than the last three.

I checked a good number of the display models and all were perfect white screens and had the matt back. It's build week 7 as were two of the other three and the DL (Foxconn) factory.

So something is going on. If you have tinting problems - return them folks. Not right.

Completely agree. Got a replacement for yellow tint. New one has weird cool color and right side is dim. I also notice the back is less slippery, more matte like.
