Why dominate the "large screen" tablet market, when you can dominate the "small screen" market as well.

Now I want a small screen iPad to come out just because this thread would be even more entertaining at that point. I think there is plenty of room in the market for a smaller iPad. It's called the ebook reading market! (Among other uses.) Personally I prefer my Sony PRS-950 (a 7 inch e-ink reader) to my iPad for reading, not just because I find the backlight fatiguing at times, but because of the smaller form factor.

Also, now that I have my iPad, I find myself reaching for my iPhone sometimes just because it's easier to deal with for quick tasks. I could probably settle for a slightly bigger iPhone (4 to 4.5 inches) and use the iPad for work/pdf purposes, but I think there are a lot of people who would love a 7-8 inch iPad for reading, children, etc. Saying that the iPad is as small as it can be is ludicrous. I've used my iPhone to do many of the things I do on my iPad successfully. something in between? Could be just right.

This is all about price nothing more. Now all of those consumers who don't want to pay for a full price new iPad can get a cheaper "mini". This is a good business move. Obviously most people who already have a iPod aren't going to necessarily get a mini. This is purely to compete with the other cheaper tablets and readers.

I would like to see an iPad Mini. I want to buy one for my wife for Xmas so she quits asking me to use my iPad!

If Apple feels they can make substantial profits introducing a 7' iPad into the market, then more power to them. I'm 100% happy with my iPad... but who's to say someone else wouldn't like a smaller tablet. I personally think it's stupid, but hey, to each their own.

Except it wouldn't be any cheaper.... There is not enough difference in the component cost unless they make a cheap plastic toy...

It's very interesting to see the diversity of responses. I welcome those who do think slightly differently to my rather 'forward' views. It is after all....a forum.

Listen, Steve Jobs left behind a list of instructions, and I don't think the iPad (freakin) mini was on that list. :D

Speculation is one thing, actual facts are another.

It would not be wise to limit yourself to this kind of list if it actually exists as Steve Jobs himself deviated from his own agendas and plans.

The iPad is the smallest possible size with it being too small. So why on earth would Apple, the most intelligent company in the world, make a smaller iPad?

I'm so glad there is someone to give these kinds of absolute pronouncements, otherwise how would I know?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Frankly, as much reading as I do on my iPad, I'd love a 7-8" model at half - 2/3 the weight to use mostly as a reader. And no I won't buy a kindle fire as I find it to be a pos in use.

I use my iPad a LOT (see my signature...) but there is room in the world for other use cases and preferences. Jeez...the ignorance, intolerance, and pomposity of trolls never ceases to amaze.

Actually, I got an iPad and I do want an iPad mini for certain things. I’m seriously considering buying a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 because the form factor is just really appealing to me. I’m sure a lot of people feel the same.

I have an original GalTab 7 inch from late 2010 and I love it. The form factor is great and I'll upgrade later this year to a newer Android tablet. I wouldn't trade it for either of my iPads, not would I trade either of them for it. Different uses for me.

If someone doesn't like it, don't buy it. Getting wound up about it makes no sense.

Too small. I don’t understand what all the attitude people are getting over this. I want a smaller iPad that is bigger than an iTouch. If Apple doesn’t make one, I’ll go with an Android device. That’s all there is to it.

If you don’t want one, don’t buy one.

Its really tempting for me to buy that Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. I would use it just as you do. iPad and the GTab for different uses.

People around here are getting all pissed off for no reason. As if Apple is pointing a gun at their heads to force them to buy anything they make. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. We all have choices.

What if I want a bigger itouch with a iPad iOS interface?? Not everyone thinks like you. If they did then the entire economy would crumble.

People, if you don't need it, just don't buy it. It's that simple. If it's viable to make profit, why deny someone who wants a certain product just because YOU don't want it? How selfish and self-centered are you?

Hell, if it makes the stock go up higher I'm all for it. Stop taking money out of my pocket because you can't handle that there is an apple product out there you don't want. Let the rest of the world live their lives and we won't tell you what to buy okay?

since you seem to know what apple is doing in the labs can you tell me a little more about the iphone 5???

So would you carry both the 7 inch and 9 inch iPads with you? Or leave one at home and carry the other?

Anyone else who's thinking of buying both sizes if they are offered, please do share how you contemplate splitting your use between them. Me, I currently have an iPhone and an iPad, and while I think a 7 inch iPad may be useful in certain situations (there are many times when I feel like a 7 inch iPad in my purse would be a better size to carry when going out), I personally don't feel it's worth juggling three iOS devices just so I can have a perfect size for every occasion. (So she said... :p)

Tough to say as I don't have a 7" tablet at the moment :)

That said, I'd continue to carry my iPhone pretty much all the time, and would likely add the small iPad to any travels that didnt include my big iPad...things like a visit to the doctors office, subway ride, etc. where reading is the perfect way to get through. Basically any time/place where I'd have a relatively finite amount of time waiting around. And of course around the house and especially in bed where the big iPad provides a good but not great reading experience (slightly too big and heavy to be perfect).

Ah, see, that may be the difference. I think the current iPad is the perfect size for bed (so she said...). And for doctor's office and subway, I get by with the iPhone. A little too small to be comfortable, but in those situations, I'm just passing time. And since I can't leave my iPhone, I'll have to bring both my mini iPad and my iPhone, which is more device than I want to carry on those types of outings. Now if the mini iPad came with cellular connection, I may consider ditching my iPhone and getting just a mini iPad plus big iPad. In any case, I don't see room for more than to ios devices at a time in my life. Interesting to hear how other people's envisioned usages differ from mine, though!

I would have bought a mini rather the iPad 3 , had they put one for sale. The mini would fit in my purse and be easier to hold when I want to read a book.

Besides, those of us that are in the market for the mini, really does not need to justify why... we just WANT one. If Apple makes it, I will buy it.

Part of it is definitely that my old eyes just don't get along with reading too much on the iPhone. :((

Well, my eyes aren't too young either, and for instance, I hardly ever use Safari on the iPhone. I use google's mobile news site, Flipboard and Zite to find articles I want to read, send them all to Instapaper, and read them with the font enlarged to something terribly big. Sure, I only get a few lines per page, but I've gotten used to reading things this way. Like I said, I only use the iPhone to kill time while on the go. If I want to do anything more "serious," I use my iPad.
