Well, my eyes aren't too young either, and for instance, I hardly ever use Safari on the iPhone. I use google's mobile news site, Flipboard and Zite to find articles I want to read, send them all to Instapaper, and read them with the font enlarged to something terribly big. Sure, I only get a few lines per page, but I've gotten used to reading things this way. Like I said, I only use the iPhone to kill time while on the go. If I want to do anything more "serious," I use my iPad.

Maybe the rumored tall iPhone 5 will help in this regard! More lines per page...

Wow, it doesn't matter what Steve Jobs left behind. He's not in charge anymore. Even if he was, there is still a board of directors. Your 'forward' thinking is quite narrow.

It's very interesting to see the diversity of responses. I welcome those who do think slightly differently to my rather 'forward' views. It is after all....a forum.

Listen, Steve Jobs left behind a list of instructions, and I don't think the iPad (freakin) mini was on that list. :D

Personally, I think an iPad Mini would be great for

Videos
Music
Typical smartphone apps (banking, restaurant lists, calendar/contacts)
Email

It would be less ideal for anything heavily text-and-image-based, like books/magazines, word processing, web-browsing or Facebook. Remote Desktop is also always nicer on a larger screen. In these cases, having the extra screen real-estate is a big bonus.

Games could go either way -- a smaller screen is not exactly a deterrent (look at the DS, Vita, etc.) -- but a larger screen does open up the playing field.

I will say that with the right app, the iPad's larger screen is absolutely lush. The new eBay app, for example, is very slick, and it makes good use of the screen size while you're browsing/bidding and generally doing all things on the 'Bay. An app like this would definitely have to sacrifice some of its goodness to get on a smaller "mini" screen.

OP...

Next time think before you make such a silly post. I want a 7 inches iPad myself and many others have posted that they would to. ;)

As far as this post you made...
"Listen, Steve Jobs left behind a list of instructions, and I don't think the iPad (freakin) mini was on that list".

Steve is no longer with us and his instructions mean absolutely nothing anymore. Others are in charge, not someone who is dead.

I agree.. The iPad is the right size, any smaller and it wouldn't be as nice to use. Much like the Galaxy Note, thats F%&king huge. Too small to be a good tablet and too big to use as a phone. You'd look like a right tool with that on the side of yer face..

The Galaxy Note is awesome. I should know as I have been using one for 3 months now. Is it as good as an iPad for browsing the web? Nope.
Is it good for browsing when my iPad is not within my reach? Sure.

And it's an awesome phone. And it is amazing how no one has said anything to me about the size of the phone other than how nice it is! Imagine that.

Maybe "you" would look like a "tool" using it, but then again, maybe you just look like a tool!

FYI, the board of directors has no involvement in product development.

Sure some will buy one.

A neighbor just got a Kindle Fire. I looked it over and went online. YUCK! the silk browser zoom was horribly slow and the size was nothing great (obviously).

and it was heavy...as I thought it would be lighter (probably is but didn't feel like much).

**story: had the iPad outside earlier looking over a menu for a local restaurant...then neighbor got out their kindle to do the same an hour later. I could compare the difference to the same site and page.

oh, and I wouldn't want or need a small iPad/large iPod Touch.

Actually, I think it would help more if the phone got wider, so I can have more words per line. Wider, squat columns can contain more words than narrow, tall columns.

They could always do a convergence and have a product between an iPod Touch and an iPad, using a 7" or so screen. The iPod Touch sales are slowing down in favor of iPads/iPhones anyway.

Rumor has it that there was already a 7" model that has been developed. Couldn't the board suggest that go for sale on the market if they believe there is profit to be made.

Not how it works. It's the CEO's job to oversee the day-to-day operations of the business. The CEO answers to the Board as representatives of the shareholders but he wouldn't be CEO if they didn't trust him to act in the company's best interest.

The board is not a sitting entity. Take a look at Apple's Board, tehy have 5 directors with outside "day jobs" Robert Iger, Mickey Drexler, Andrea Jung, Ron Sugar and Al Gore. They do not have the capacity or time to learn every detail of how Apple operates. They rely on reports and presentations by the managers they oversee and accept those decisions as being well-based (or they dump the executives).

Roger that

I believe there is such thing called a 'mac mini', my kind sir, so why doesn't one be be able grasp an iPad mini?

/sarcasm off.

But seriously though, it would be pretty cool though as it can be a 'pad in our pocket'

Well, I personally don't have many pockets that will fit a 7 inch tablet -- maybe a few of my heavy winter coats, but certainly none of my indoor clothes have pockets that big. If any company used that line as a tag line for a 7 inch tablet, there'd be an outcry for false advertisement.

It actually could, depending on what they do with the bezel. I have a Kindle Touch, and it is pocketable in all of my pants that I've checked. Here's a photo demo I posted recently in this thread:

The only real puzzle I can see about making a mini is the bezel question. Minimal bezel would make it much more useful (portable) for adults, but would make it pretty hard to use for kids - or anyone who doesn't have the hand size to palm it. I suppose they could just produce the trim version, and make a case that would extend a thumb hold area on the sides for when it might be needed.

That's a huge pants pocket!! I don't think that's normal clothing, I took a look around at my coworkers, and nobody is wearing pants with that big a pocket.

BTW, can you sit with that in your pocket?

OK - Lets try it this way:

The closer to the size of a wallet you get, the more easy it is to pocket.
The full size iPad will fit into very few pockets.
The proposed iPad mini with standard iPad sized bezels will fit into more pockets, but not nearly as many as a Kindle sized iPad.

Nudists, office workers with some sort of small pocket dress code, or those afraid of sticking largish things in their pockets are kinda out of luck. ... although I think the office workers might be saved by their jackets ....

I when I head out, I usually carry my iPad and kindle out to my car. When I get out of my car, I usually grab the Kindle and stuff it in my pocket to read while I'm waiting for anything. I usually pull it out of my pocket when I sit down. Levi's and most shorts I've seen seem to work fine.
Sure beats having to carry something around in your hands all the time.
