I thought hitting return to rename something was weird at first, too, but now I find it much simpler than in Windows. When I want to rename something, I just hit enter, instead of clicking once, then trying to predict just how long to wait to click again, so I don't get a double-click and accidentally open the program, and so it's not too long that nothing happens. Now that seems far too bothersome to me.

Or just whack F2 ;)
I know where Enter is without looking so that's always good.

(v) networking in OS X was not functional before 10.5. Again, gaining a basic functionality, which should have been provided as a free update for Tiger, requires a paid upgrade.
What type of networking caused troubles? Networking a G5 Mac with a WinXP system was simple. And configuring an Airport Extreme with a MacBook Pro (wireless) and the G5 and XP systems wasn't too hard. And it has worked perfectly for the past six months.

I did encounter the two minute lockup on occasion when something was removed from the network unexpectedly. Thankfully Leopard fixed that.

At first, I though you were crazy. But I do have to admit, all of those things are true. But if you were to ask me that question about PC's, the list would be so long it wouldn't fit on the site.

Not only that, but the problems would most likely be a lot more robust and significant. One of the biggest issues i have is making changes to a Windows system. All of the preferences and utilities are scattered throughout the machine in random places.

I like the Add/Remove program option in Windows, but when I don't want to remove them, just find a program support folder, I can't and it's most likely lost in a hierarchy of folders and random files.

I hate that they don't have a mid priced tower that is upgradeable. Very limited choices compared to PC's.

I wish they had a real manual in the box. I'm thinking of buying a help book to get the most out of Leopard and it's $50 !!

Buy "Leopard The Missing Manual" by David Pogue. It is like $30, and worth every penny.

What are you talking about???? I have a Powerbook and a MBP and an iBook which I carry around for work everyday. Sleep is one of the most stable features on the Mac OS that Windows has never gotten to work well. I never have issues closing my notebooks and carrying them in my bags for transport. It actually hurts your computer shutting it down all the time and starting it back up but unfortunately shutting down a Windows PC is necessary but not a Mac computer.
Same. I don't have any problems with my MB and iBook when they're running on sleep mode. It could save a little more battery, but that's just nitpicking.

Just wondering... what exactly do you want a manual for? What would you expect to find in the manual that you haven't just figured out by using Leopard?

I would like more than Blue and Graphite. Come on, it can't be that hard to give us a least a couple more choices (I don't even want full theme support).

And yeah, the maximize button is worthless.

The somewhat unpredictable behavior of window preferences/views is also troubling.

You two are aware the maximize makes the screen the most efficient for viewing as possible right?

oooh, fun thread

it REALLY bugs me that I cant add and remove a large number of columns of details - one of which should be "path" - from finder windows (in detail/list view)

It is especially bothersome to not be able to set the columns I want when searching for files from the little search box in the top right of a finder window. I mean the search is super fast and i love it but its SO frustrating to me the way my search results are listed...makes them very difficult to go through. And the whole search "contents of a file" or "filename" thing is silly to be set to anything other than filename by default and i hate not being able ot change it to always default to "filename"

right click on the title bar in itunes...that is how quick and easy to get to, and varied the options should be in a finder window. And that capability should carry over into search results.

the green + not maximizing is frustrating also but to a MUCH lesser extent. I understand how its neat and all but I think a maximize button (in some capacity) is useful. Clicking a green plus to turn my itunes window into a tiny little control panel thingy doesnt seem very intuitive to me.

I wish the home and end buttons would behave as they do in windows (beginning an end of a line and the ability to hold shift and press end to highlight an entire line)

I think it is weak how apple charges you for OS updates. Maybe under the hood they did some revolutionary stuff but on the surface leopard has a few cool features that shuold ABSOLUTELY be available for tiger users via a free update. if you want all the magic under the hood, buy leopard, but some of the features they add are like correcting problems in their interface...no reason to charge loyal customers for this

I love "preview" in windows. You doubleclick on an image and it opens....and you are automatically able to use the cursor to move from one image to the next, you dont have to highlight all the images you want to have open in preview, it just assumes you want to be able to scroll through the folder you are in previewing all the images AND....if i press delete, it deletes the file! OSX makes you select the images you want to be able to scroll through in that instance of preview, and as a result they create another problem because now there is a list of images to manage which means when i press delete, it doesnt delete the file from the disk, it deletes the image from the ridiculous slideshow which only exists because of the first part of this problem.

It is super neat that apple tried to create a "paradigm" shift by doing things so differently than windows does, making things more simple, approaching problems differently....but I am just contantly feeling like there needs to be an advanced mode to OSX where you can run an "advanced featureset" app and go in to 20 different tabs, each with 500 checkboxes to enable or disable OS features that you miss from all the time spent in windows, or that annoy you about the mac.

It'd be nice if I could get an intel Mac that didn't have issues . (3 Macs and all have had problems, no problems with the 5 PPC Macs I've had)
Other than that, I wish that the Macs would wake up from sleep faster. But compared to my dad's PC laptop, I really can't say that I hate anything as it has had way more issues than I've had. (Same goes for my younger and older sister's PC laptops and parent's desktop PCs)

Press space bar and use the arrow keys to go from one image to the next. No need to select the images as a group. Unless you're in a folder of mixed content and only want to look at the images?

On this, I'm of a different view: I find Preview in Windows a necessary evil but don't care for it. It's slow and cumbersome, particularly when navigating "backwards" (left arrow key) making it difficult to easily toggle between to adjacent images.

I'd gladly trade it for the more versatile QuickLook.

The good thing about the intel Macs is that for people like you that miss so much Windows features, can simply run Windows and keep using the "so loved" Windows way.
In my opinion Windows is a cheap and buggy copy of Mac OS. MacOS came in 1984, and it took years to Microsoft to became with something similar. Now with with MacOSX you can do many cool things that maybe as a normal PC user you don't even notice.

If you always want to know where your files are, use the Terminal and it will always tell you where you are the :apple: UNIX way...:D

Anyway when you click on Show All in a search, in list view you'll see where the file is after you click on it.

We all know that Macs are tonnes better than PCs, but hating things about something is the way they get better. Here are some things that really bug me (and I hoped would not be present in 10.5).

- The low battery warning will pop up six or seven times before the battery dies - and needs to be CLICKED to go each time.

- The green 'plus' button in the top corner of windows is very inconsistent - can't it simply make the window as big as the screen?

- When you shut down a notebook, you can't close the lid or it will go to sleep mid shut down.

- When resizing a finder window, the coverflow gets bigger rather than the list of files getting longer (10.5).

- eBay never works properly with Safari!

- The sleep light cannot be disabled. I like not shutting down my Power Book but, in a dark bedroom, that light gets annoying.

If Macs were perfect, Steve Jobs would have retired, so what annoys you about Apple products? It's just a bit of fun...

When resizing a finder window, the coverflow gets bigger rather than the list of files getting longer (10.5). Solution = Just Resize it.

eBay never works properly with Safari! Solution - Use Camino for Mac or go BUY STUFF YOURSELF.

The low battery warning will pop up six or seven times before the battery dies - and needs to be CLICKED to go each time - Solution - Just Press Enter. Or put it on charge when it shows the icon to avoid the icon appearing.

The green 'plus' button in the top corner of windows is very inconsistent - can't it simply make the window as big as the screen? Solution - Simply use the Resize Notch. The Green Button makes the window take up as much Screen Real Estate as it NEEDS. unlike WINDOZE.

When you shut down a notebook, you can't close the lid or it will go to sleep mid shut down. Solution - Turn off Sleep when Fold, or Wait for it to shut down before folding.

The sleep light cannot be disabled. I like not shutting down my Power Book but, in a dark bedroom, that light gets annoying. Solution - Put it in a case.

There Done...All the things u dislike about a Mac has been solved....I hate PC's just as much as any Mac user, but these small supposed imperfections that you posted bugged me...i mean PC's don't even have a sleep light. eBay gives you viruses on PC's, and clicking the Maximize Button in WindBlows bloats the window so u have to move it to find others. On a Mac....that doesnt happen. Thats why most new apps now days have full screen.

Anyone agree?

Cheers!!!!

Well, the blue and graphite thing is easily solved. Just download another theme off the internet and install it on your computer. It's really easy, and there are millions out there. Only problem is, some don't work with Leopard.

Yeah that's if you're willing to pay for ShapeShifter.

thanks, thats great! I wasnt aware of that feature. Still cant delete images by pressing delete (or bksp) but its a lot better than highlighting and using preview.
