I keep my MBP on my desk in my room and the light is very annoying when I'm trying to sleep. I have to use the apple remote to cover up the light just so I can sleep!!!

Yeah, that was annoying until I started just turning off the screen and leaving the computer to run normally. The light was too bright in the iBook, it's too bright in the Macbook, and the iPod's is like a searchlight when using it at night.

I don't think I hate anything on :apple: Mac's.... BUT.... I do hate arrogant mac users who go around boasting about how amazing they are compared to everyone else just because they have a Mac.

I understand what how you feel but those Mac user's attitudes come from years of Windows users acting superior to anyone using a Mac. Maybe you don't know but for years if a person entered a coffee shop with a Macintosh notebook several people using PC's would stare as if the person using the Mac had no place in the coffee shop.
Several Windows users would blatantly walk up to a Mac user and say, "why are you using a Mac, there's no software for them".

Another superior act from Windows users still exists today, we are constantly reminded how little market share the Mac OS has against the Windows operating system and the very rude if not superior shout out that "Macs Can't Play Games".

These superior acts from Windows users cause the Mac community to be very defensive. When this happens to you, you will understand.

All the new Refugees from the Xp Camp.Sorry but Its that most of them have bought thier dumb @$$@ questions also:eek:

i heard (sorry I don't have a mac yet, will soon) that in web forms the tab key skips dropdowns and buttons. does Full Keyboard Access also solve this problem?

Thanks,
FG

Yes.

I agree here. I actually get a lot of this. I don't think I've yet to be called a fanboy, but I can get pretty defensive about my Mac, and I'm very proud to finally enjoy my computing experience instead of getting frustrated with it.

I've tried to talk several people into Macs after listening to their Windows complaints. A few of them ended up seeing my point, but lots of them ended up spouting the same old "but it's still a Mac..." attitude despite my kind-spirited efforts.

I find it fairly annoying that when my laptop goes to sleepmode, and I close the screen (i.e. it goes to sleepmode 'again'), I have to enter my password twice after opening the lid again.. :(

Yeah, that's one of those annoying Leopard bugs (still not fixed for me as of 10.5.2 ).

It sucks huh?

Why do you keep it open when it's sleeping?

Also, if you are THAT annoyed: System Preferences -> Security -> uncheck the first checkbox in General.

I don't like not being able to make windows full screen. F11 for Firefox on Windows. And I wish the green button made the window as big as possible.

Well, sometimes it goes to sleepmode before I decide I won't use the laptop anymore (for instance, in college) and then I close the lid, put the laptop in my bag and when I get home I open it and have to log in, twice..

Furthermore, I'm not 'THAT annoyed', I stated I was 'fairly annoyed' by it, the whole point of this thread, right?
Ohh, and I don't want my laptop to be accesible by just anyone. And since it being in sleepmode often means I'm not there, turning off asking for a password when 'waking up' is not an option. :)

The overnight appearance of a blue line that runs the entire height of my iMacs display.

Got a new one.

- Coming back from screen saver, I have a login prompt set. Lately, about 60% of the time I move the mouse, the screen goes black, and I don't get the login prompt but the keyboard input is inhibited (typing my password I get the system buzzer). If I close the lid, let it sleep, and wake it up, then I get the login dialog and I can continue.

- Lately my Macbook Pro won't shut down or restart from the menu. I'll do it and 9 times out of 10 something is preventing the machine from restarting, but not legitimately. Usually it's QuickSilver or Google Desktop. But if I quit it, it just fails to shutdown on the next app. Until I'm all out of apps on the "force quit" menu, and it still won't shut down. I have to go to the console and do "shutdown -h now".

- I'm very concerned my disk is corrputed but OSX won't let me fix it. Disk Utility reports about 60 files with incorrect permissions but won't fix them. I've booted from the Leopard CD. I've even run Disk Warrior. No good.

- Despite what evangelists say, OSX does degrade over time like Windows (though not as badly). I've had my install for about a year and it's getting slower and slower, and now those hard disk problems. So the reality is, just like Windows, I'll have to reformat and reinstall to get back to a proper state.

It sounds like there is some hardware gremlin creeping in for you, which maybe you could get looked at. I have not noticed any degredation in the speed of my computer (now 4.5 years old) since I got it, but it has actually gotten more responsive with successive OS X updates. The exception was Leopard, although 10.5.2 seems to have boosted it once again to Tiger levels of snappiness.

Your honesty will get you torn apart by the zealots! Run for your life :D

Finder. The finder is crap. Vista's finder is actually better than OS X's finder. The finder is really that bad.

.DS_Store

Can't autohide the menubar like you can the dock.

Mighty Mouse

edit: I've got one more. When I cmd tab into some applications from another space, the window does not have focus. It really breaks up my flow, man. This is especially annoying with FireFox.

edit: sorry necro, someone just linked it and I posted w/ out looking

You can't hide the menubar becuase it is the main way of controlling the application...

Well, I used menufela to do it in Tiger, and while it was nice having all those extra pixels, it seemed too un-Apple-ish to be implemented as an OS option.

I wish that pressing Shift in Caps Lock would type lowercase.

I don't understand this reasoning. If I ever have a reason to dig into the menu (and I rarely do, since i know all the hotkeys, includind cmd-? to access menu actions that don't have hotkeys), I know exactly where I'm gonna find that menu. Why is this so hard to grok?

Pretty much my only annoyance left since switching a month ago is the utter lack of ability to customize the look of the OS in Leopard. So I can change the wallpaper and the screensaver? Whoo hoo! Really makes one wonder how Mac got known to be favored by multimedia/creative type people... :p

It's an interesting idea -- not one I'd use as many commands I use don't have shortcuts. And without commenting on the merits of this idea, I think it wholly contrary to the fundamentals of Apple's UI concepts and will never happen.

First, the Menu Bar is the fundamental link to what application is active; hiding the menu bar and that information is lost. I've no doubt this would be considered potentially highly confusing to new users and even experienced users. Even as an user preference, it affords too much risk of confusion.

Second, as most applications to not have an exhaustive shortcut set, I'd guess that the menu bar is accessed relatively frequently by most users, and this would not really be that useful for most.

Finally, it adds to customization clutter. Apple clearly wants to minimize the the number of system-wide user tweaks, and this is pretty out there and likely wouldn't make the cut.

That said, it's an interesting idea, and as I'm largely in favor of giving the users more UI customization choices, it would be a nifty addition to the Preferences.

Besides, we got a checkbox for an opaque menu bar! I'd say anything's possible now. :)

this is the only problem i have with mac is the lack of decent webcams for mac and ones that the mac actually reconises itself

What ever happened to that cam Apple made... the iSight? Did Captain Kirk call and ask for his missing warp nacelle back?

I heard closing your eyes usually helps. :p
