Reading these has made me angry, so I turned on my PC and remembered why I use a mac.

My gripes:

1. My mac book air feels like it'll catch fire with any processor intensive task, my wife's MBP G4 was even cooler.
2. Can't it backup my USB drive automatically? Someone probably has a fix
3. The constant variation of the fan speed on the powermac G5 (has the Mac Pro fixed this?) Can't they have the "right" speed. Again it feels like I'm making it mad when it has to work a little.
4. When expose or spaces doesn't go, then goes like 20 times in 3 seconds, and I know this is user error from the attempts, but it should happen quickly.
5. Dashboard...
6. No sync for windows mobile (that works, I know about 3rd party software)
7. Why can't I install any PC hardware without using a 3rd party fix?
8. Blu-ray?
9. No high def rentals on a mac but only on apple TV, like apple TV has more processor power or a better graphics card, whatever. I'd be nice to rent them in high def w/ MBP too. Actually, this makes more sense as you're closer to the MBP screen. The viewing angle probably justifies the high def. annoying.

My who cares:
Why bother with the + button
PC people - they're just jealous

Love my apples/ipods etc. Jobs has my business for a long time.

It's always cool to show a PC user R and L click on the track pad and the double click to drag windows never even having to touch a button. It's best for those who believe apples still just have 1 button.

Why can't you print a listing of the contents of a folder like you could in OS9? I mean directly at OS level, without having to intall 3rd party apps...?

I don't have napkins in my bedroom and my wife's thongs are to small to cover the sleep light.
What do you recommend?
I like the thong idea. Perhaps try to cover the sleep light with the triangular or landing strip shaped part, not parts which could be used as dental floss. Otherwise I'd recommend a responsible ecological, biodegradable solution - but nothing edible as that drives up food costs.

you could copy the contents of the folder and then choose "Show Clipboard" in Finder's Edit menu. this gives you a text clipping but it is un-editable but you can use this hint to enabling editing.

Waking up?

Does anyone find when you wake up a macbook after closing the lid it sometimes take ages to get going, and the dock just disappears for a while?! Also my optical drive wont read dvds half the time so its hit and miss when i rent dvds, they might work after trying 10 times or so! granted im getting the drive changed under warranty next week, but is this common?

Never heard about your issues  Are those DVDs all scratched up?

What do you dislike about the Dashboard? It was a feature that sounded lame in description, but in use I've found it very practical. Widgets for weather radar, movie times, and iStats are useful almost daily. And the Envelope Address widget is great for the rare time I need it.

I agree about the HD rental issue. If HD rentals were available from iTunes, I'd be tempted to buy a mini and set up a media center computer. But it can't, and the AppleTV can't play DVD rips, so there's no good all-in-one solution for me.

I wish the enter button opened up programs when you had them highlighted.
Other than that OS X is better than Windows, because my main concern with Windows is it lagging more than OS X. I also dislike the widgits, because I usually don't have a use for them.

1. That stupid best fit button
2. Windows not remembering size
3. Stack folder icons being barely readable
4. delete key deletes too slowly
5. erm

I can't click down on the mouse wheel then slide the mouse up and down my desk to scroll in Safari. Unless I am missing something, this was a feature it lacks. It works in Firefox, but I find Safari much faster.

oh yeah and also a major one is the overuse of the dock - there should be somewhere you can minimise apps away from the dock so that you don't have a tiny little dock with loads of things minimised on it and have to scroll over everything to find out which one it is

and the blue dot is crap

Why would you want to do that? Do you have RSI or are you just too lazy to use the mouse wheel?

use a combination of command-H and command-option-H and use command-tab, the dock, exposé or just click the app to switch applications.

iMovie 08 sucks

they stole everything that I loved about iMovie HD but the did add the ability to change color but that does not make up for getting rid of timeline and adding that stupid scrolling video. the also made the interface so complex I had to watch their videos to learn how to use it. I miss iMovie HD :( hopefully iLife 09 or what evers next will be better.

You can download iMovie HD from the Apple website if you have iLife '08 installed.

No, theyre either bought new or rented, and theyre all the same region - I bought the macbook 2nd hand off ebay tho... ive never owned one before so im asuming everythings ok...

You do know that Apple offers a free download of iMovie HD to anyone that has iMovie 08 don't you? I like it this way because now there's essentially 2 versions of iMovie, one for the advanced user and a simple one.

Edit: Just noticed Tom B covered that.

I suppose

I don't hate anything on the Mac (and its perfect when you compare it to the windows what a TERRIBLE oporating system microsoft created by the way) anyways I don't like having to use ctrl-click to "right click" anything. and this is just a mildly tedious trait. nothing serious.;)

but I cant run my camcorder

my new camcorder only works on iMovie 08 but I just wish that they make is so lame. It was all the small thing I miss being able to adjust speed and pause length for titles. effects just all the stuff they left out and the fact that it is all in a library is good and stupid at the same time. It just wasn't the same. and I still have iMovie HD but it has started acting up so I am just stuck in the middle. iMovie HD was more advanced than iMovie 08 as far as editing and audio goes. The only thing iMovie does better is the ability to mess with color but that is about it

Well, the Mighty Mouse has right click. Right click mice work with Mac OS. The trackpads allow for double tap.

Cmd-O opens files. Enter, as you see, renames them. I found this an odd change at first, but I think you will get used to it.

Actually, having "Enter" (as in "enter text") rename a file makes much more sense. Still it would be nice to have one of the major keys like the space bar or the enter key open a file. I guess Quicklook makes sense here.

My MX Revolution gives me about nine mouse buttons, controlling right & left click, Expose, Dashboard, 4-way scrolling, volume, and web page forward/backwards.

Who still uses Control-Click?
