What do you dislike about the Dashboard? It was a feature that sounded lame in description, but in use I've found it very practical. Widgets for weather radar, movie times, and iStats are useful almost daily. And the Envelope Address widget is great for the rare time I need it.

I agree about the HD rental issue. If HD rentals were available from iTunes, I'd be tempted to buy a mini and set up a media center computer. But it can't, and the AppleTV can't play DVD rips, so there's no good all-in-one solution for me.

Maybe you're right, I just don't use dashboard much. I'll have to play with it more and I'll like it better. My hot corners are occupied w/ spaces, expose, all windows and desktop so clicking on the dashboard hasn't been time effective. I guess it really isn't annoying, I just wish apple had spent the time on the other issues.

The Mini is still good for media. I'm doing that now. You just get a large USB drive and EyeTV and you can have TIVO (although EyeTV is buggy) w/ movie and music storage. Apple TV didn't do visualizer w/ music either (I don't know if they fixed this). The mini allows this and it is cool to have your HD TV w/ visualizer. I just wish HD was an option for rentals and it would be perfect. It's cool to have a little box driving everything.

EyeTV is no longer buggy, are you using version 3? It's made for Leopard.

My only two real gripes.

1. No manual eject for the disc drive
2. itunes organizes by ID3 tags.

The no manual eject cause the disc drive in my old 17" MBP to be replaced. I was burning a CD, Leopard crashed and wouldn't eject the CD, I rebooted, since the CD was still in the drive it kept trying to boot off it. Had to send it to the local Apple store and they had to replace the drive. Would of had no problem had it been equipped with a manual disc eject like PC laptops have.

1. No manual eject for the disc drive

I've had to do a reboot a couple of times when a certain DVD has crashed DVD player/HandBrake/MacThe Ripper. It wouldn't show in Finder, even with a relaunch, so I had to reboot before I could eject it.

And just out of utter boredom, the film in question was War Games :D

what annoys me about macs? not to be rude and these are my opinions (dont want people to think im trying to push my views on other people) but mac owners and the whole entirety(sp?) of the mac computer. Sure macs have "never had viruses" but that is because macs were never targeted for viruses, who wants to target a company which is smaller in comparison to microsoft all the hacker $$$ are in microsoft.

fact is macs had to start using intel processing units to run there "latest and greatest operating system" also not having a standar right click button on your mac mouse (meaning you usualy had to get a "right click" mouse seperately) is dumb.

IMO mac = waste of time and money and anything else that can be wasted

I agree. :p

This is a ridiculous argument.

The same retread again and again...

Indeed, the same dingbat arguments we hear all the time... "What NO RIGHT CLICK!!?? OMFG!!111" ... in addition to everyone and their grandmother having already explained to me that line about macs not getting viruses because they're not as ubiquitous as windows.

I don't know much about ID3 tags, so what would be a better way of organizing your music? It seems like iTunes works well enough.

I would really like to be able to organize by file/folder instead of ID3. This way both the library i see in itunes and the actual itunes library folder are consistent with each other and organized.

uggg this has been discussed to death. Why on earth would you care what the folder structure is? There is no reason to be mucking around in the iTunes library folders if it is all organized in the application window.

Chill out, it's the whole "stuff everything under your bed" thing. As long as you can't see it, it's not there, right? wrong. Some people (like myself) just need to be organized, it bugs me knowing it's not. Plus re-naming everything by ID3 is a pain in the ass. Sending files is annoying as well when your itunes folder is unorganized. So there are plenty of reasons sir.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned how developer-unfriendly Apple has been lately, when it comes to Java. Apple's latest move (releasing Java SE 6 as a 64-bit only, Intel-only binary) was, I thought, especially boneheaded.

My biggest pet peeves with the Mac OS:

Why isn't there an easier way to remove an application's support files along with the application package?
Why is the Dock split into two sections, applications and documents? There are many times where I want to put something executable into the applications section, but Mac OS X won't let me unless I wrap it inside an AppleScript (for example - shell scripts from UNIX-land).
Regarding the green button - its behavior is too inconsistent across applications to be useful. For example, in iTunes it toggles between full and mini modes, whereas in TextEdit it zooms the window to fit the content. There should be an Apple UI guideline about it - why does Apple violate it?

uggg because some people need to move those files sometimes. Thankfully, the folder is organized by artist/album and with the addition of Spotlight its rather easy to find the necessary files...

I just use iTunes's "Reveal in Finder" option. Makes finding the actual file on my HD a cinch, should I want to play it in QuickTime Player, email it to someone, etc. Unfortunately this doesn't work so well with multiple files at once.

please guys lets not forget that mac had to use an "intel™®©" proccessing unit to run its OS if macs were clearly better then PC thn they would not have to do so.

also the right click topic? i never said you couldnt get a mouse withright click for macs i simply said over the years (up until recently) you had to purchase a right click mouse seperatelyhck im noteven sure if they come with right click mice.

dont even try to deny the ambiquity(sp?) of macs if hackers had actualy wasted there time on macs then macs would have viruses.

this guy explains it all:

I agree, but sometimes it gets confusing when you're looking for multiple files. For instance, big Nine Inch Nails fan here, and i wanted to burn my entire collection on a DVD as data. When i go to the iTunes folder i see something like this:

Nine Inch Nails
NIN
nine inch nails the fragile (left)

When i open those folders separately, it gets even more chaotic. I want one folder thats consistent so when i burn it for someone (or myself for that matter) , they can actually navigate through the disc without being completely lost.

I just select them all in iTunes and drag and drop them where i want them to go. Works fine :)

The touch pad on my MBP is so sensitive that I have to type with my hands WELL AWAY from it otherwise the cursor flies all over the place. And if you touch-type, that can be a problem, looks away for one second anlooklikeds everythterribing, it'd lle.

I never have this problem (although on a MB), there is a setting in system preferences to ignore accidental inputs on the trackpad, try turning that on.

Apple moved to Intel because PowerPC chips were not headed where Apple needed them to be. This has little to do with the OS.

hck im noteven sure if they come with right click mice.
Maybe you need to do a little research before spouting off then, eh?

Did you mean "obscurity"? Plus, how do you explain viruses for Mac OS 6 & 7 (I believe) but none for Mac OS X?

I don't like the fact that there isn't a higher end graphics card for the New Mac Pro's other than the 1.5GB Extremely expensive card over the 8800GT. I want maybe a 1GB card for better rendering in 3d applications as well as gaming.

I hate that there isn't a better selection of graphics cards for macs.
