Look on the bright side... in a few years when they remove it, you will pay handsomely for it.

They won't be around forever... just for the next few years. Patience grasshopper.
And then Apple users will all be like "Thank you for listening to your customers!" "That's why I love Apple!" When Apple is the one doing this to us in the first place.

Seems like a good bet that there will be a utility available in very short order that does away with the notch leaving you with exactly the 16:10 resolution you would have had otherwise. Your decision not to use that extra screen height.

I'm going to be real, I did not want a notch, but they brought back every other thing I wanted (mag safe) and removed the thing I didn't want (touch bar) so the notch is what I'm ok living with.

I think it will turn out to not be as big an issue as people think. It honestly looks like it gives extra screen space and functionality. Ehhhh with everything else being so great about the computer I could care less about the notch.

Apple done it purely and simply for brand recognition.

If it never had the notch from the front it would just look like any other laptop in a store.

The exact same reason why the white bezels appeared on the iMac, it stands out from the crowd, I can guarantee if the MacBook Air hasn’t got a notch when it’s redesigned it will have white bezels, if it gets a notch it will have black bezels.

For some of us it has nothing to do with lost space. It's an aesthetic joke.
First, I appreciate your high value of aesthetics. This is a great thing. Second, I would never suggest that anyone buy something that they don’t want/need based on my opinion unless they genuinely wanted it.

That said, slamming the notch as an aesthetic joke is a bit like like busting Van Gogh for a particular shade of blue when comparing his work to a velvet Elvis. You could be right, but taken against the field, it seems an odd stance.

I’m not wild about the notch, but while the aesthetics may not work for you, it isn’t wholly an aesthetic decision either.

Umm, not quite. A notch is not going to give them brand recognition - it is going to polarise people - they did it to maximise screen real estate and include essential items like cameras, the way they did with iPhone X.

stop! Don't make that mistake. Don't cancel it. Just send it to me, I'll make sure I put it to good use.

I’ve been working with a self-inflicted “notch” on my work computer for years and it never bothered me. (It’s a post-it note covering the camera, for clarification).

I couldn’t stand the notch on the iPhone and it has zero place on the MacBook Pro.

Anyone else wanting to cancel their order or not buy it because of the notch.
Nobody wants the aesthetic of notches or thinks they look amazing. But they provide way more utility than the tiny cameras in those small cutouts or under-screen cameras that some other brands are doing.

Place your money on another model or brand without a notch if this one doesn't suit you.

If watching movies and video on the go is what need in a laptop then get a M1 Air or 13" Pro, or an older Intel 16" MBP. A 12.9" iPad Pro would also be a great media consumption device if you can't do without Pro Motion but want it notch-free.

The notch won’t impact on movies as they are all 16:9 or smaller

Given what you said, why did you order in the first place? That seems rather illogical. Go ahead and cancel. It makes no sense to order something you know ahead of time you aren't going to like.

Nope. But you do you.

Cancelling your order means some lucky buyer moves up in the shipping timeline, so there's that.

Incidentally, these weak attempts at troll posts are getting more and more pathetic.

Yes, Apple has most definitely turned this "issue" into an aesthetic and almost has me thinking that they'll hold out on going notch-free on iPhones for much longer than what the various "leakers" are saying.

Apple is quite clearly doubling down on the very specific shape and features of its notches and not hiding them as so many always want to point out or shame them for.

You're supposed to instantly know you're looking at an iPhone or Apple product even when you can't see the Apple logo. Removing the notch on an iPhone 11, 12 or 13 would instantly make it much less obvious that it's an iPhone.

Apple will only every ditch notches entirely if they can come up with a new design element that's unique for the iPhone and sets it apart from other brands without question.
