I don't care about retina I just want the battery to last as long as an iPad. Also I want a 13" not a 15

Why only the 15 in.? What about a thinner 13 in. and 17 in. MBP? :(

I honestly wonder if they'll do away with the current 13 MBP form. We'll just have a 13 MacBook (Air/Pro) and 15 inch MBP's with a Retina display option for the prior 17 market.

New MBP = Good - Potential Heat Issues=Bad

As a current gen MBP owner, I'm a little fearful of possible heat issues with a thinner device.

...and the total discreditation of the "Pro" moniker is complete!

Mmmm. A little OTT IMO. This will be an amazing machine to work on.

On the Thunderbolt Displays you have a Gigabit ethernet port, so presumably it would be possible to have a Thunderbolt to ethernet adaptor to give you Gigabit ethernet speed via one of the Thunderbolt ports. That may explain why it has two Thunderbolt ports.

could use the ethernet too. I network my computers and sometimes wifi is painfully slow. Does this mean we will get 802.11ac in the pro's to compensate? I hope so. But that means I will need a new modem/router.

Hope so.

Wonder what the options for the 13" will be...

Looks like we are losing several features and ports, but they can all still be supported externally (external ODD, USB to ethernet, hopefully thunderbolt to Firewire). Seems a reasonable option for progress. USB to ethernet is the one I can see myself getting if I ever got another laptop (happy with iMac / iPad combo, but love the idea of a retina computer screen).

Wow! So, how will i be able to plug in the thunderbolt cable AND the MacBook Pro Power adapter from the Thunderbolt display cable if the thunderbolt port is on the opposite side of the magsafe connector?

The person doing this mockup has never heard of the Thunderbolt Display, OR Apple dropped the ball!!!

There's little reason why Apple can't add USB3.0 to the 2011 thunderbolt machines - TB -> USB3 adapter and USB3 drivers?

I don't get why people keep saying the ethernet port is limiting how the thin the MBP can be. The MBP is significantly thicker than that flat side on which the ports reside. If they lost the tapered design, then they could fit the ethernet port on a slimmer machine. The whole taper is there to give the appearance of slimness. Maybe it wouldn't be needed if the machine really was slimmer.

I know it's a mock-up but, if Apple removes Ethernet/Firewire from MBP, then what's the purpose of Macbook "PRO".

If the things end up like this (which is unlikely, at least i hope so) then Apple's going to have new "Macbook" line, no Pro's or Air's.

The 13" MBP is Apple's biggest selling laptop. I don't see them doing away with it. Hopefully they will differentiate it more from the Air by giving it the full range of Macbook Pro features such as a proper GPU.

It would make a lot of sense if Apple completely switched to ThunderBolt for Firewire and Ethernet connections. Firewire is phasing out, and Apple is the first to do it, since it's their invention.

No optical drive :( its going to be annoying for installing games guess i need to buy an external one, but overall i love the idea of a thinner design but i hope this doesnt effect the memory it should be 500-750gb standard.

That would also make a lot of sense if Apple dropped Air and Pro. Just MacBook in different screen sizes.

Who cares about new MBPS? All Apple engineers should be focusing on the next version of iOS and iPhone!!!!

In theory you can buy games from App Store or other online gaming options, but optical drives are barely used now. Majority is now taking over, so Apple has to adjust to that.

Good, they could also support 2 Apple Cinema Displays (if there are 2 Thunderbolt's) and then I gotta say - Apple you got my money for this MBP!:rolleyes:

You can do that already with a single TB port & 2 Thunderbolt displays. The displays have another TB port so you can just daisy chain.

From the mockups, looks like it wouldn't be that much thinner. But I guess there will still be some people who thing "OMG! This makes so much difference! Wow!" I'll reserve judgement until I can hold one with my own hands.

I know I'll probably be flamed for this, but if those mockups are accurate, I don't see that much of a difference between these & MBAs besides an extra TB port. Maybe a dedicated GPU, but that's not much of a difference even then. If Apple does this, I doubt it'll take long before they just consolidate the MBA & MBP entirely.

I hope you're kidding (kinda hard to tell in forums like this). If you're not, FYI, some people need stuff MBPs provide that iPhone don't. Examples:
-More CPU & GPU horsepower
-More RAM
-More hard drive space
-More apps & more powerful apps
-More printer support
-Multiple user support

Flip side of the equation: if apple's FireWire removal gambit pays off and the industry shifts to something else, does this mean my 2011 thunderbolt port might actually get some use? I've never fully understood if my sandybridge motherboard prevents me from EVER being able to connect with USB3 through an adapter or whatever.

The thing is USB to ethernet would take us back to 100Mbit ethernet which is too slow. Gigabit ethernet has been available for years. I still want an internal gigabit port. I would like an ODD too but reluctantly I think I'll have to accept that Apple will remove the ODD.

As for those suggesting a Thunderbolt Display that's an expensive option, especially when I already have an external display.

No Firewire????

All PRO audiointerfaces use FW connection. There is no way that i would take USB audio interface to stage.

Grr! I was waiting next MPB line to update, but now i need to buy current model just to have FW.

I also have 10+ FW hard drives that would become obsolete with this.

If your display didn't have thunderbolt, and instead used HDMI, it would need to be last in the chain correct? Or is that not possible while daisy chaining?
