ugh, what about a thinner 13" mbp :(

15" is their best selling US model so they will focus on hat but i am sure a 13" or 14" will follow... The 17" is to be discontinued i have heard.

I love my new i5 13" incher... and will keep it until the upgrade after this one !!!

Not sure what I should think about the loss of the Ethernet port.
I'm going to miss it for sure.

I wouldn't mind at all losing the Ethernet port.

My first MacBook Pro had its entire motherboard replaced after the pins in the Ethernet port got all bent down (they lost their "spring"). My newest MacBook Pro (2010)? I think the same thing is happening.

I've plugged and unplugged my system to and from Ethernet so much the port started wearing out after a year.

I now just sit on WiFi all the time, with an access point right next to my system. I'm connected at ~130 Mbps, so transfers take longer, but I don't have to worry about messing up a port again.

USB ports haven't worn out on me like Ethernet ports have. If I break a $30 dongle, then I get another $30 dongle. I'd be limited to just ~480 Mbps with USB Ethernet, but that would still be sufficient for what I do.

Any true "pro" uses a 17 inch screen anyways. I'm an auditor, and we're constantly moving our computers and external monitors, and we have 17 inch hp computers. We need the real estate. Nobody who is working on a laptop should be using anything less than 17 inches. Maybe Apple has realized this and is removing things like the Ethernet from the 13 & 15 inch models.

in your world there are no professionals that use UK trains?

Everyone stand back, we have a badass over here!

What the hell is a "true" pro anyway? I see more people in my field (design) with 15" than 17". I guess they aren't "true" enough for you.

It seems to me that the tradeoffs aren't worth it. So we'd be giving up the CD drive, ethernet, and dealing with extra heat to save what? 2cms? I'd rather have a larger battery and better heat performance.

Well... If you can lose the port, make the laptop thinner and retain the ethernet performance, I can't see why that's a bad thing. Then again, I doubt the Macbook Pro would come with one.

I doubt Apple would shoot themselves in the foot with the current Thunderbolt display, the Y cable that houses the power and the thunderbolt cable wouldn't fit on these new macbook pros very well. Why would they seperate thunderbolt from the power.. seems very strange to go back to having cables come out of both sides of the machine....

I'll throw in a vote for an introduction at WWDC. This hardware will have more implications for developers than past revisions. (Apple can discuss how OS X supports retina resolutions and how that affects apps, and they can tout how successful online distribution is for everything, allowing them to remove the optical.)

Seems like a good compromise on size. I'm also really excited about the USB 3 since I have several external drives for USB 3 that I use for backups.

I'll probably skip this release and get the first speedbump tho, just in case. :)

Laptops are for portability. Otherwise we'd all be using desktops. You're not the only "pro" but I'm glad you find the 17" MBP satisfactory for your needs.

The Apple USB to ethernet adapter only does 100 Mbps which is terrible considering how long gigabit ethernet has been around.

Why on earth would Apple waste space on TWO thunderbolt ports??? Especially when there is so much hype around the daisy-chaining numerous devices!?

...and I really hope they wont sacrifice the FW800 just yet - although it could probably push thunderbolt ahead faster...

Dual thunderbolt ports is a welcome addition since many of the thunderbolt devices are single port and need to be at the end of the chain. It is going to be easy to max out the six devices limit, when you consider using that port for pretty much everything. More thunderbolts ports mean more PCIe lanes, which is absolutely necessary if they want the new breed of compact computers to replace the big tower workstations.

IF there is going to be a 17" it will be later in the cycle.

I have my doubts on a 17" retina display.

Been made aware of this fact in the forum in a relevant post, but evolution of the mbps is taking far too long, and I do not want to invest so much money in a machine that will probably be "old news" by xmas.

That's a serious no-no purchase.

I hope if this is the true design that they sell a USB3.0 to 10/100/1000 adapter. The current USB to Ethernet adapter that they sell is only 10/100 which is too slow in my opinion.

I don't use the Ethernet on mine much but when I do I need it to be fast. I'd be willing to use an adapter as long as it provided high throughput.

Who cares about new MBPS? All Apple engineers should be focusing on the next version of iOS and iPhone!!!!

you must be joking... ha, ha (i'm not laughing)

you know that most iOS devs use MBPs to make YOUR APPS!

Now head over to the iOS forums.

That looks good. Still gigabit ethernet is a basic feature that one shouldn't need to get a 3rd party accessory for. It should be in the Pro. It's one of the features that differentiates it from the Air.

Will the new MBP still have a 2.5" drive. I already have a 2.5" SSD ready to put in.

USB is resource intensive. A thunderbolt adapter would be much better.
