I don't think this is DRM ... I think it's a kernel permissions issue ... the 'shared' being used in the error seems like the device user doesn't have permissions to run an app or the app permissions has changed (either on device or from the App Store server) after a recent update.

I think it is the DRM: I started randomly getting this is the error at the end of last year and found Family Sharing was no longer sharing anything between family members.

Encouragingly Apple never managed to fully fix it. Although I did get sharing back, I now have the wrong account as the organiser and neither I nor Apple can move it the correct one.

This issue is
- new
- easy to handle (offload and reinstall, 10 seconds)
- non topic for people with common sense
- new food for all iOS haters, crybabies and dark minds
Until it happens for something that is much needed like a password manager. For 1Password you need the secret key (or the info off of another device like an iPad, use the QR code) and then the 2 step authentication code.
Or even worse... a person logs into gmail and uses the google authenticator app to get into their email, and this happens. Better hope then have the back up codes.

Came here wondering if this had been covered on MR. My wife had this happen on her iPhone X with the door dash app.
Sh4 thought it was because she had not updated to 13.5 yet. Updating didn’t fix the issue. Deleted door dash and reinstalled fixed it. But it did get her to update her phone in record time. LOL...

Remember us free software fans who back in the 90s warned everyone about DRM and how insidious it is and how it will keep you from using your own software on your devices eventually?

But the rich app/software ecosystem we have today is only possible and viable due to DRM - what would we have now if it wasn't for DRM?

There is another workaround if you don’t want to delete the non-functioning app: go to the purchases of the person that shared the app. Install any small app that you don’t need. Run once, then delete again. That fixes the permissions issue and the original app will start again.
Can’t be stressed enough. Especially for people anxious to loose data like for WhatsApp.

That worked for me and my WhatsApp.
It must be related To family sharing.

I’m getting this with youtube suddenly

was working fine since iOS 13.5 was installed, only today for whatever reason

Guys, it's not so much OS version dependent as you all think. I just took some screenshots of my wife's phone which still has iOS 12 - it has the same issue with Facebook app.

As you can see from the screenshots it's also not region or language dependent. Apple just scored some major problem affecting people around the globe.

Hopefully this is something that is fixed server side. There's an imminent jailbreak for 13.5 and I don't want to update past that unless given the blessing by pwn20wnd. I guess it's good enough that you can fix it by deleting and re-installing apps.

PS. Please don't tell me jailbreak is dead or not worth it. To each their own. Yes there are tons of things you can do that are still worth it.

you just posted this to tell the world about your precious jailbreak, didn’t you?
Of course with the usual „don’t tell me anything, but I tell you there are tons of good things although nobody asked me to“.
Ridiculous.

Apple statement:

We apologize for the minor inconvenience because both the coding and testing teams were staffed by interns. However, we are thrilled to note that track and trace works EXACTLY as designed because we had our best and brightest working on it and it was triple tested.

I’m still on 13.4.1, and have this bug. Others in my family are on 13.5 and have had it intermittently.

Oddly enough, in some cases, just waiting has also resolved the issue. I’m wondering if it’s something on the backend, rather than to do with the iOS update...

I just had this happen to me with YouTube today!!! Sucks! Another iOS bug. Apple used to have hardware that worked well because it cared so much about software. If Apple doesn’t watch out, it will lose its dominance like Blackberry once did.
Sure, eventually that will happen. It happens to all companies... but Apple doesn't need to do anything other than what they have been doing. Sure, some people will grumble for a day or so, then they'll continue to buy Apple products... and that is all Apple really cares about in the end. In quite a few of those cases, the more people grumble, the more money they give to Apple.

Grumble about a defective Macbook keyboard? Solution: Buy a new Macbook AND give Apple more money for an extended warranty.

Someone will come along and make great software that works with the hardware in an ecosystem and Apple’s lead will vanish overnight. I cannot wait for the day!!! So sick of Cook’s Apple. Make Apple Great Again. Hire a “product person” as CEO!!!
And when that day comes, you (and not just you) most likely won't leave... because you have too much invested in Apple's ecosystem.

Anyone who is dissatisfied with Appleland should diversify and have other options. I did that quite a while ago... as a result, things like this don't bother me, I've saved a ton of money, and have an interesting group of devices that play nice together.

When the error pops up and sends you to the store, quickly press “update” before it changes to “open”. Worked here.

This worked for me. I got the error with the Nextdoor app. When it took me to the App Store, after a few tries, I was able to quickly hit update before the App Store change the status to “open”. The Nextdoor App then updated and problem was solved.

Was planning on updating my devices this weekend but I'll wait until this problem gets resolved for now.
Happened to me and I’m running iOS 13.3

I have not seen this but the delete and reinstall would kill all the data. My most used app on my iPad (really the only app I use 90% of the time) is ForeFlight which is for aviation and contains downloaded charts and FAA approach plates. Mine is currently using about 26GB of downloaded data. To redownload all that would take a very long time and if I am not able to get to wifi, will use up most of my "unlimited" data.

Fingers crossed that they fix this.

Well, here we are. A stupid bug is keeping us from running even free applications.

I don't like the future we ended up in. :(

EDIT: I bought Apple devices and didn't follow my own advice, I know. I'm just grumbling about stupid this all is. It's so unnecessary.

This hasn’t got anything to do with DRM. This is just a bug that seems to be related to family sharing features and fixable by reinstalling the app.

What app is that in the screenshot with the thicc cat and lasers in the icon - in the folder to the right of Apple Music? I gotta have it.
It’s an app called Catpaint. I zoomed in and cropped the image around the app icon then reverse image searched. It’s .99 cents in the AppStore. Enjoy.

Whoaaaa, that’s a big deal! My stepdad is a commercial pilot and he uses that as well. FAA doesn’t take kindly to aviation stuff going awry. Hopefully Apple is onto fixing this issue.

What’s the point of sharing free apps with family members?

I don't think people are necessarily specifically doing that.

But maybe it happens automatically. Eg. if I download Facebook then my wife does, iOS may think its licensed to me and shared to her - rather than thinking - its free - so ignore the shared license and just give my wife her own separate one.

The reason I'm looking at this thread at all is my wife just had this pop up error thing when trying to run Facebook today. We fixed it by deleting the facebook app from her phone and re-installing it. She's back in business - once she finally remembered her fb password :)

I hope this can be fixed on Apple's side. I've been using the family sharing with my Elderly mother who lives nowhere near me and she's reporting that her iPad is totally stuck.

There's no chance I can run through over the phone how to get her do any of these fixes :( She barely knows how to use the thing other than load YouTube and Disney. She's extremely bad when it comes to technology.
