Fantastic

I actually love this mockup.

One minor edit though - I think Apple may do a Prē-style home button. No lines/borders around it, just the rounded square, maybe even lighting up upon touch, or (again, Prē-style) in the direction of a multitasking swipe. What I'd like to see is a Mac-style pulsing light in the center of the home button, for a BlackBerry-style external notification light. LEDs would be too obnoxious, I think, for Apple's design standards. A Mac-like sleep light (also set to the pulse of a human breath) would be fabulous in my opinion.

Edit: I hope they don't carve out the home button, leave it as a flat glass surface. Adds design simplicity, in my mind.

for fun this evening i put together what i'd like to see as an iPhone 5 design. assuming a 4" screen, the dimensions are 4.55" x 2.38" x 0.27", making it a touch taller and wider than the iPhone4, and a constant thickness matching the widest point from the case designs. obviously a 3.7" would be proportionally smaller. also excuse the lack of headphone jack and other refinements, just wanted to visualize the general form factor!

i think i can sort of get the engineering logic for the sloped back. a decent camera is probably the thickest component, potentially holding back an overall thinner design, but i still think symmetry is way more aesthetically pleasing, so i kept the max thickness throughout. the the same vein, i vertically centred the screen, which makes it taller than the case designs, but again, the minimal size increase would be worth the visual balance to me!

A few things I see missing - front-facing camera, camera flash, and speaker/dock connector/microphone. But as a quick mockup, it's gorgeous! I like the lack of definition around the home button, just a giveaway light glare. Very Apple-like. :)

this is beautiful. I really hope the new iPhone 5 looks like this so I can upgrade from my 3G which must be 3 years old at least by now. The iPhone 4 was hideous to my eyes, and a liability for Apple with all that glass to break and cause a doubling of warranty claims which costs Apple money.

The chamfered sides will feel really nice in the hand, and the tapering thickness will look really cool.

Fantastic! About time Apple caught up to the rest of the industry in terms of screen size.

Now let's see this end up on Sprint so I don't have to pay $370 a month for my plan.

If it's shaped anything like this, then you're all looking at $199 "repairs"

It's genius how Apple can suck money out of you and get you to praise them.

More Baseless Rumors......

I'm always amazed by all of these pictures that pop up showing what the new iPhone will look like. Truth is, nobody really knows except Apple. Calm down and relax people it's just a phone...

damnit...I left ATT and went to sprint because I was betting that it would just look like the iPhone 4. But the two issues, I had with the iPhone, if they fix it then ugh...i would have to go to back and then lose the grandfathered unlimited data!

Damn you!!! Damn me!!! Damn everyone!!!

data plan doesn't matter much as of recently - considering it's very hard to hit 5GB on regular cell usage, and jailbroken tethering is getting cracked down upon.

Wouldn't your hand/thumb keep hitting the screen? Visually I like it but I feel like I would register a lot of accidental touches if I don't hold it carefully.

They could leave the touch sensors off the edges of the screen

Just release it already!

Then we can focus on the truly interesting, upcoming iPhone 6. Complete with the A6 processor and the new iOS 6, comprised of Apples vision of a single OS across all devices.

OS X being history, this will truly be the culmination of Steve's vision. The official beginning of the Post PC Era, Apple style. This has got to happen soon given the precarious state of his health, if he's to be the one on stage.

Rumors continue to place the timing in 2012/2013. I want to see just what's so great about this convergence of mobile and desktop Operating Systems and how Apple executes.

While I can see the benefit from Apples side of it, (more revenue) I'll sorely miss a serious version of OS X for those of us who use it for engineering work.

Only time will tell, so come on Apple let's get on with it.

Wow...I really like this design as well, especially in the white. I really wouldn't be surprised if the actual iphone 5 blows us away even more than this though. I'm very pleased with my white iphone 4 and won't upgrade for quite awhile, but how fun is it to see what Apple comes up with next!? :)

VERY NICE VIDEO OF WHAT THE iPhone 5 MAY LOOK LIKE! http://youtu.be/6iS_gc3c42s

I like this one best! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxYnuHX3LCI
- I really love the MBP unibody-like finish on the back of the white one (may need a a scratch-proof coating though). I could see a 3rd version with this back and a black front too!
- and most convincing to me is it has symmetrical tapering on the back.

Very beautiful! I hope it evolves in this manner...

...I really can't see the asymmetrical tapered version used very well when rotated horizontally.

Screen size too big in this mockup

While i think these prototypes look great, and I would actually love to see the screen fill that much of the devices' real-estate, I do not think that the screen will be that large.

As stated, there are issues with swiping down. I also think there will be issues with the beveled edge of whatever cases wrap around the front of the phone. I think that if the left-right edge of the screen was mocked up to be the same edge width of the iphone 4 It would be more likely

My mockup... I think it will look more like this:

Looks good to me; I'm personally thinking a longer, slimmer design, the iconic button, and a larger screen. That's what I'm hoping for anyway.

I'm using a feature phone (had to sell the old for funds) and I have an upgrade; I'll definitely be using it for the next iPhone 5.
