Maybe I'm a weasel, but I like to save as much as I can. I opened a second line on my account. I'll pay 299 for the 32GB, switch the iphone to my primary line, put my current phone on the new line and no data so I'll only pay 9.99 for 24 months. End up paying 538.76 for my phone versus 699, and I can pre-order tomorrow night.

I will be waiting until the iphone 5 comes out this summer. I dont want to get this version and have to wait 2 years to get a newer one.

If iPhone 5 seems must-have (when compared to 4) then I will sell the iP4 and grab a full-retail iP5. ;)

I'll order it at midnight out here on the west coast. But let's be realy - it' just a phone. I'm not quivering with anticipation or having trouble working...

they wont let you put the phone on another line without an active data plan.

Keep your shorts on buddy. It is just the same old outdated iPhone that came out 8 months ago. I could see being all excited if it was an iPhone 4.5 or something.

Anyways, if your on Verizon, why the hell wouldn't you go for the HTC Thunderbolt ? A much better device hands down. The Thunderbolt allows 3g talk and data at the same time, is faster. Uses Sense 2.0, has a big beautiful screen, and best of all is open source.

because some people prefer the iphone over it, and correct me if I am wrong but the thunderbolt would only be able to do talk and data at the same time on 4g? In most cases people don't live in 4g areas so there is no sense in pointing out 4g if you cant use it. Might as well get an iphone now and then upgrade to an iphone later thats 4g capable when its available in your area

According to your logic the best thing to do would be to wait for the Bionic...or the next phone after that.

But anyways, the Android Flea Market is pathetic and inferior to the App Store. Add to that the fact that Android constantly force closes, leeches more battery than iOS, and is generally buggy, is why I will be pre-ordering the Verizon iPhone.

HTC Thunderbolt won't be available until the second quarter at the earliest. Its also quite a bit bigger than the iphone. And, who knows what the battery life will be. Lastly, its usually a mistake to get the first product in any category. The Thunderbolt will probably be obsolete soon as soon as more LTE devices come on line.

Preorder

I'll be preordering at midnight here on the west side. My only concern is that the site will crash just like it did for the initial iPhone 4 preordering last summer. I sure hope this goes smoothly...

Thunderbolt should be out this month;

The Thunderbolt is the first Verizon phone to allow both 3G talk, and data at the same time. Alot of people asked why the iPhone4 coming to Verizon can't do that too ? Because Apple didn't want to change the iPhone4 that much, but will in the iPhone5.

I love how people just add months indiscriminately. The iPhone officially came out June 24, 2010. On January 24, 2011 it became 7 months. That means that the new one could come out in 5 or 6 months. An entire half a year.

So...according to you, when exactly does an iphone become "obsolete"? How much time do you have to get it before it becomes a useless dinosaur? 2 months, 3 months, 4 months? You would recommend people start waiting 6, 7, 8 months for the next one, instead of actually using the CURRENT version for 6, 7 , 8 months? Oh and the people who did buy one on launch day, they still have another 6 months of waiting to do if iPhone 5 comes out in June. But wait, that means by December iPhone 5 will be totally obsolete! I guess you would suggest they wait for iPhone 6 when they become eligible for upgrade at around December 2011. But if they get iPhone 6 they will have to wait 18 new months for the next one and by the time they become eligible iPhone 7 will be obsolete... and on and on it goes.

Do you do anything else other than sit waiting for the next big thing?

The iPhone comes out like clockwork every 12 months or so. At least the first four generations have, and I would think the fifth one will too.

At 6 months old, I start to question if it is worth buying a product half way through it's cycle, because in just another 6 months the newer better version will be out. At 8 months old, like the iPhone is close too, that means just four months from now ( February ) the next iPhone will be released in ( June ). I would rather sit it out, for just four months, and get the newest version.

I would be upset come June in four months, to see the all new shiny iPhone5, with the new dual core, better screen tech, more ram, and cool new features, while I am stuck on the now outdated iPhone4, that I just bought 4 months ago.

I would agree with you if the iPhone operated like Android and you never knew when you would get a software update, or even if ever. With iPhone you will be getting iOS 5.0, and the vast majority of its software updates. You are not left in the cold with an obsolete OS. The next iPhone will always be faster than the previous one, that's a given. But for many people, a 15% speed increase is not something that makes one regret their purchase. I know now that if I get an iPhone 4 I will still get whatever benefits iOS 5.0 brings the same day it is launched.

How many people still buy a 3GS daily and you are saying getting a 4 when it is barely over half a year old is dumb? Now I do think getting a 3GS is a bit silly because it probably will go the way of the 3G soon.

I wish I was in your boat. I have been rocking the original Blackberry Storm since June of 2009. I cannot wait to throw it off of my balcony and into the street next week.

Same here. The phone is a piece of garbage. Can't wait for a phone that works and doesn't lose memory halfway during the day and needs a battery pull. I'll never buy a Blackeberry again, I feel sorry for the people who got duped into buying the torch.

I can't preorder on the 3rd. Even tried to get my upgrade date changed from Feb 12th to the 3rd, they said no, but if I came in on the 10th they would upgrade me then.

Ahhh I see, thanks for that info, didn't know that. Despite that though another thing that someone brought up but I forgot to mention, is that I prefer the Apple app store over the android market, its really a lot better. Android will probably compensate with this within the next couple of years I imagine at the pace they are moving

A 3GS is not a bad purchase for someone that wants a smartphone, but isn't obsessed with having all of the latest features and updating to the latest OS all the time. For instance, I'm sure my mother would love to have a phone that allows her to access the internet, run thousands of apps, and take good pictures. Someone like her couldn't care less about AirPrint, AirPlay, Facetime, etc.

It's funny seeing you guys all hyped up over the Verizon iPhone. I remember the hysteria around the original release of the iPhone 4 last summer, and how everybody here was so paranoid about pre-orders, reservations, delivery dates, and what time to show up to wait in line. Good times. Crazy, but good.

or sell the 4 to buy the 5? That is what I shall do and selling it will be simple. That's if the iPhone 5 is even available on VZW in the summer. We may have seperate refresh cycles until/ or if they make a dual model.

+1. I will not wait any longer for an iPhone. I have only had a RAZR, a chocolate, and a Dare throughout my cellphone life (yes, it has been death...)

i sold my 4th gen touch the day the announcement was made (the last month has been so empty without iOS in my life), and i am preordering in 1 day 10 hours 46 minutes

if the next iphone is really that much better, i will have a 32gb iPhone 4 to sell on craigslist, and will be more than happy to pay for the next one. but i cannot wait and chance that iphone 5 for verizon doesn't come out til next february...

Counting down the hours...

I'll be pre-ordering along with what, millions of others? I have waited a long time for iPhone to come to Verizon. AT&T has very poor reception where I live (a fringe area). I have to come up with an excuse for staying up till midnight and beyond, Pacific time, since I have to go to work Thursday morning. My wife doesn't think we need a new phone. We have an old LG Chocolate 3. Ha! What does she know? I see the battle lines forming already...:D

It would be nice to know, from a reliable source, when the phone is going to ship.

we only know it will be delivered on or before Feb 10th if pre-ordered.

I know. I'm moving on the 7th, so I think I'll just err on the side of caution on have them ship to me at the new address.

Also, do we know if Apple.com will be doing the pre-order as well?
