I'm using my wife's upgrade so it will ship with her number and she'll be using my old phone. I wonder how hard it will be to switch numbers. I have done it with other Verizon phones before with the over the phone menu, I wonder if the process will be the same with the iPhone or how that process would work, especially since iTunes is somehow likely involved.

You no longer have to order phones that way. There is now an option when you go to upgrade your device online that allows you to transfer an upgrade between two lines. That way there's no worrying about switching numbers once the phone arrives.

So if this is the case I would be able to switch my eligible line to another line that's not currently eligible? Are you able to expand on how to do this?

I just did that today on the verizon website. I will be using my buddies upgrade (we share a family plan) so I went online and transferred his upgrade eligibility over to my number that way there is no need to deal with switching phones to different numbers back and forth. I like that Verizon implemented that into their site. :)

I just tried to and it let me, but wanted me to actually order a phone today. When I left that page my upgrade reverted back to the line I don't want it on.

Yea you actually have to buy the phone when exchanging upgrades. And unfortunately I read on the verizon forums that this option won't actualy be available during the pre order process.

Not a big deal though, just order the phone under one number and call verizon when the phone arrives and they will switch it

That's what I'm doing

Thats the only way i've ever seen any way to do it also. Don't know how Rodvette claims to have just given the upgrade to the other line without actually ordering at that time.

Excellent. That's no big deal at all.

Yes, that's correct. When you login to your account and select "upgrade device", it will take you to a page where you'll be able to see each of the lines on your account. If any of the lines are due for an upgrade, it will indicate that on this page, as well as give you a link beside that line which reads "Transfer upgrade to another line". Just click on this link, and then select the line that you want to transfer the upgrade to. From there, it's the usual process of checking out.

Yeah, there is definitely no way of actually transferring the upgrade until the purchase is made.

i know im kicking a dead horse here but will you guys please reassure me that verizon will handle all the web traffic just fine and the preorders will go down without a hitch?! i was part of the pathetic preorder for the iphone 4 at AT&T last summer and it was an absolute nightmare.

It will be a zoo. Verizon was having issues this morning from all the web traffic. The rep even said she did not think the website could handle the traffic.

Nobody can say 100%. It's just not possible. What can be said is that Verizon has done significant work on it's network and site to try to make it as smooth as possible.

I'm sure they worked with Apple to get figures on traffic during pre-order times, and built up their ordering system clusters to be able to handle the previous traffic and then some. You won't see it right now, but I'm sure tomorrow they'll swing in the full amount of servers they have available and keep them all in for the pre-order period.

I know when the company I work for has massive traffic, like this coming weekend, we make sure every server is in at once to be safe (most of the time only 1/2 are in as a precaution).

Really, though, it's hard to be 100% on that one but I'd say it's the most likely to go w/o a hitch compared to previous due to the fact they have previous data to work with.

Then again even Amazon gets taken to a crawl sometimes during CRAZY releases.

Nobody knows how its going to be.

Thanks for all the information

No problem.

I'm betting that we see some lagging in the site tomorrow night. Probably will have to reload a couple pages once or twice. But I don't think it'll be a repeat of last summer.

So since we are on the topic, think all of the current Verizon customers who can order tomorrow will get their iPhone? I.e., is the supply good... At least for their current customers?

All I can say is, i'd be ecstatic if it were butter smooth to pre-order. I still have major doubts though. I know they have had a huge advantage in preparation, but I still foresee some slowdowns and time outs trying to get our orders in. Nowhere near the magnitude of the iPhone 4 launch on AT&T. My god that sucked and was a waste of an entire day lol

I'm sure that everyone who is at least staying up tomorrow night for the pre-order will be fine. I have a feeling that as the day progresses, though, we'll see just how in demand the phone is. I could be wrong, though.

Another question:

Does anyone have any experience trying to ship a Verizon order to an address other than the billing address on the account? My brother lives out of state and is on our family plan. He will be pre-ordering separately from me, and needs the phone sent to his address, not mine. Will this be possible?

Pre-Order. Current AT&T Customer

I was a Verizon customer and switched to AT&T for the iPhone back in the day.

Can anyone confirm that if I activate my two old verizon phones (mine and the wife's) tomorrow and just set up the family plan with data and everything just like it will be for the iPhones ( but month to month-no contract at this point) that I can just pre-order two iphones at 3am and then port over my phone numbers from AT&T once I receive the iPhones???

So is the preorder only available for a few hours? I was thinking it went on from tomorrow until the tenth?

From what I've heard, I'm almost completely sure that you can do that. I'd wait to hear confirmation from a few more people, though, as I am just basing this off of what I've read on various Verizon forums.
