So after reading the OP, i get the easy solution is to just allow mobile syndication instead of flash? I mean on my galaxy I had flash turned off because it ate battery like crazy!!! and watched youtube from the native app. It has no restriction on content.

All your whining has nothing to do with "flash". It has to do with "mobile content restrictions".

But I agree, I watch youtube quite a lot and the way iPhone filters it pisses me off. ANyone know of a better alternate app (maybe from cydia?) :)

the reason is simple, it's because they don't really like to give people an option.

me personally i love options however some people are that blind and love apple so much, any decision apple makes is the correct one.

i see no reason what soever why apple cannot give the user the option to enable flash or disable other than the fact apple loves to be in control.

flash is a big part of internet experience for many people, to simply say flash is dead is nothing short of blindness and a whole lot of biased apple opinion.

i love the fact on my sgs2 i can go to any website, regardless if it is flash or html 5, and play any video i want, without a hitch. and flash on my samsung galaxy runs like a charm. however some people clearly dislike flash and mostly go on websites that don't need flash so fair enough. however their lies the problem, some people need flash, some people don't, therefore apple should almost defiantly give people an option.

i find it funny though when people say flash is crap, let's be clear on android flash runs very well now, on windows it runs great, why is it only macs and ios has the problem?

i read on a website it's because apple lock down their OS so adobe can't really create a perfect "program" that is compatible, unlike windows and android that work side by side with adobe for a greater flash experience.

in responce to apple Ludwig said: "We haven’t received any communication that they are testing Flash on the iPad or any feedback about its performance,” Ludwig says. “If there’s any truth that it’s buggy, I’d love to help them out.”

therefore it's apple fault, instead of working together with adobe, to create a better user experience with flash, they have simply shut themselves off and have no desire to give consumers a better experience.

One of the biggest reasons is the way Flash drains battery considerably quickly, and Apple is well-known for putting battery-life first, which I personally appreciate. It is somewhat similar to how 4G/LTE is probably not going to be part of the next iPhone unless it doesn't excessively drain the battery.

but a simple "turn flash off" would fix that "problem. if you don't want it on, turn it off, if you want it on " turn it on". hardly a complicated or inconvenient option.

the battery problem just seems like a convenient excuse IMO.

Wow. HOW DID I NOT SEE THIS?! I mean, wow, man. You really opened my eyes!

Honestly I think they're taking the porn stance with this one. If you want flash and porn then there's android =)

Most porn sites will be iPhone friendly before Flash ever runs smoothly on a mobile device.

I think ill agree with this. Flash imo is ok and works well on my phone. I cant say it eats battery though because i really dont use it much. If i watch a video from a website, it is not very often. But i can live without it though it is nice to have. It used to lag my phone but since the newest 10.3 from 10.1, it has been much better.
I keep seeing iPhone users say they dont want it and it sucks...usually that is because they dont have it.

Sure HTML 5 is coming, but will iPhone get it? Seems to take two years for them to get anything after everyone else is using it.....if they get it at all.

How did I know someone was going to bring Samsung into the discussion? They always seem to want to look for validation.

and excuse me but what is wrong with mentioning samsung

i have the samsung and the iphone 4 btw, instead of doing cheap shots or whatever, care to add anything to this topic? you know, your thoughts on flash and why apple should or should not include it.

iPhone already has full HTML 5 support. HTML 5 support in iOS 5 beats every other phone on the market.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML5_in_mobile_devices

Also, Safari is based on Webkit which also powers the browser in Android phones. http://www.webkit.org/ and it has the best support for HTML5.

Why should Apple waste time for something you really don't use that much anyway?

Well i dont use it much, but im sure others will. I dont play games much on my phone either but some here , thats all they do and dont really even need a iPhone. Just an iPod for that.

So to answer your question.........why ask that question? The people want it? Give em what they want. They can implement HTML 5 on their next phone.
If HTML 5 is better, ill welcome that too but right now, Flash is what everybody wants.

my thought pattern is the same as yours, except i watch loads of video on the web ( i don't use tv channels) and most of the sites i go on only support flash ( i watch anime, stream football and sport etc and most of these sites don't support flash and if they do, it takes a long time to actually find certain episodes that do support htm5).

html5 will take a few more years to become very popular and overtake flash, if it even does it at all. in the mean time, we consumers who have ipad's and iphone RIGHT now are stuck without the option of flash.

and your right about SOME iphone users, if apple don't support it, it's crap, or we don't need it ( BD, flash, usb3 etc), however if they did include it, it will be a very great feature, apple is the greatest etc.

that said, some people don't care about this stuff, and are happy with the iphone as it is. it's just people like you and me need choice.

says YOU, hundreds, of millions of people use flash daily. some people don't know it, but they do.

there is a reason why, when apple decided not to implement flash, that there was a massive outcry from consumers and even some apple fans.

this " flash is dead, no one uses it, html5 is much bigger now" is a complete myth created and only used by apple fans.

i got this from another website:

Mac Tests
With Safari, HTML5 was the most efficient and consumed less CPU than Flash using only 12.39% CPU. With Flash 10.0, CPU utilization was at 37.41% and with Flash 10.1, it dropped to 32.07%

With Google Chrome, Flash and HTML5 were both equally inefficient (both are around 50%)

With Firefox, Flash was only slightly less efficient than in Safari, but better than in Chrome

Windows Tests

Safari wouldn't play HTML5 videos, so there was no way to test that. However, Flash 10.0 used 23.22% CPU but Flash 10.1 only used 7.43% CPU

Google Chrome was more efficient on Windows than Mac. Playback with Flash Player 10.0 was about 24% more efficient than HTML5, while Flash Player 10.1 was 58% more efficient than HTML5.

On Firefox, Flash 10.1 dropped CPU utilization to 6% from 22% in Flash 10.0

In IE8, Flash 10.0 used 22.41% CPU and Flash 10.1 used 14.62% CPU

it's not all cut a dry, give adobe the chance to work with apple, and they could fix most of the problems people have with playing flash on mac.

Actually says the guy I was quoting. I was pointing out a flaw in his argument. Vegastouch said he doesn't use it much so I was asking why he thought it was so important to add if he doesn't use it that much.

I don't think performance has anything to do with why Apple wont currently offer flash.

A big reason for flash is Games, and that would compete with the App Store.
Another is videos and that would compete with iTunes
Another is streaming music which might compete with iTunes again.

Apple also likes that they can say their iPhone works a certain way and is pretty much guaranteed to not have browser issues related to plugins of any sort for the most part. Flash occasionally crashes and takes out tabs or the whole browser with it. Apple doesn't like things that have the potential to do that.

Just so you don't think I'm a lemming. I'm sure it can be done but they're not going to devote time to something that doesn't benefit Apple's bottom line. Just look how many Flash games get ported to $0.99 apps... They want people to use their store fronts. Its a billion dollar industry for them, literally.

Eh, this has been beaten to death long ago.

I currently own the Nexus S... and I do really like it. Does flash rock? Nope, I turned it off. I just makes browsing slower and the browser lags badly. Besides the videos are choppy and tiny... and the last thing I need to do is see animated ads all the time.

People gotta get over flash for now, none of the current smart phones run flash for crap. (Fiance owns the G2X and its hellishly fast phone, flash still doesn't play worth a damn.

Thanks for the input. I tried a Droid X for about 3 weeks and came to the same conclusions about Flash. I was wondering if it had gotten any better, guess not.

Experience

I have no problems watching Vevo, Netflix, or Xfinity (Comcast), but rarely do as a phone is much to small for me to enjoy.

Thanks for those tests, just shows that the main reason people here have problems with flash is because of how it performs on macs, which has been said is apples fault for not working with adobe like the others have. I have never had any problems with flash, and on the atrix I had for a little while flash worked great as well.

The bottom line?
The Internet shouldn't be dependant on one company to pull it's finger out, regarding web video. Apple is the only company with the cojones to make a definitive stand.
