Lol Realplayer, nice.

I think one aspect i have a question about is the separation of Flash' sub categories. Why do sites that don't need interaction like games or on screen layover ads, use flash anymore? There are Flash audio players, video players, videos with box-ads, interactive games, and everything in between.

Why is Flash necessary for anything but games, (and maybe ads in videos but where you can still watch them on mobile ala YouTube/Vevo app.)

Music and video never really needs to be flash right?

There should be separation and Flash only used when absolutely necessary like for interactive games.

I agree. I think the abundance of Flash in places where it isn't needed is just due to laziness of talentless web designers.

Here's what we know about the Great Flash Debate:
- Apple believes that Flash is not the right technology for mobile phones and believes that HTML5 is the "next big thing" in web content. Apple believes that Flash does not work well on mobile devices and significantly reduces battery life. Based on this view, Apple has chosen to block Flash on all iOS devices.

- Adobe believes that Flash still has a place in web content. Accordingly, Adobe has created a version of Flash player for a few other platforms.

Here's how I understand what the spectrum of opinions is on this forumabout the Great Flash Debate:
1. Apple may or may not be right about Flash being unsuitable for mobile devices, but it is immaterial since at present, the majority of web content is in Flash. Based on this, Apple should offer the "option" for users to use Flash if they want to.

2. HTML5 is not the "next big thing." Flash will remain the best tool for web content for decades to come.

3. HTML5 is the "next big thing" in web content. Apple is right to block Flash.

Look at this from Apple's point of view. When the iPhone first came out, its web browsing experience is really what set it apart from existing devices (e.g. BlackBerry). Web browsing is such a critical component of the iPhone. Add to that the fact that Apple has a long history with Adobe, and it's not that great. From Apple's point of view, allowing Flash would make Apple dependent on Adobe to offer a critical piece of the iPhone experience.

Apple believes that HTML5 is the next big thing. Some people on this forum don't disagree with that. However, according to them, Flash is "the deal" right now, so Apple should support it. However, if Apple believes that HTML5 is the future, allowing Flash runs contrary to it. In the past few years, HTML5 adoption has accelerated but it's still not to where it needs to be in order to really challenge Flash. IMO, if Apple had allowed Flash from the start, what little progress we've seen on HTML5 wouldn't have taken place. Content providers would have no reason to create content in another programming language. Right now, the iOS user base gives content providers an incentive to render their content in HTML5 or else they will lose readership.

What I'm saying is that Apple does not want to be COMPLETELY dependent on any company for something with no other alternative. If Apple had allowed Flash from the start, that's what would have happened since Adobe maintains Flash Player.

I don't have flash on my phone, and I currently don't have flash installed in any of my desktop browsers. I don't miss flash at all.

The occasion when I run into a site that requires flash, I just kind of chuckle to myself "How quaint" and wonder when they are going to update their website to be used by real people.

Can you quantify what you mean by "real people"? Are you suggesting that those that do find a use for flash are in some way different?

And did you expect us to actually believe that you had an open mind based on the title of your thread which presented your conclusion and biasses without having to read your post? Talk about cheap shots about Apple being evil. Please tell us how they are evil. That is a big part of your title, so please tell us how they are evil.

lol before you accuse me of being biased and saying i called apple evil, please read the op........now have you read the OP? as you can see i did not create this thread  ;)

I like to think i am unbiased and open minded. I have the ipad, macbook pro and the iphone 4 (soon to be sold) and i also converted my dad to buy apple products ( he now has the iphone 4 and loves it, and we also jointly bought the macbook pro.

I simply like to be buy the best and a mobile suited to my needs, i bought the iphone 2g because it was by far the best phone at the time, i got the iphone 3g because it was also the best phone a the time, i got the htc desire because i thought it was the best phone at the time and then i bought the iphone 4.

now i have the samsung galaxy s2 because IMO it is the best phone ever and widely regarded by all tech websites and reviewers as the top dog. it suits my needs to a T, why? i don't have to convert video, i can use flash ( which i need but was in the past willing to accept that i can't get it on the iphone), i don't need to use a computer to use it the way i want to use it, i can customise it to the way i want it.

i will also buy the iphone 5 if it suits my needs ie they give it flash, the ability to play almost any format and also give the user the ability to customise the phone instead of a wall of apps.

despite what people say, flash is still alive and kicking, it is still used on hundreds of millions of websites, a lot which i use to watch movies, anime etc

Well, don't expect flash coming on any iDevice anytime soon. Apple is not willing to pull the trigger on this matter. Besides, as you said, if it works for you, it works. People do not own Apple because it is just Apple, but because it works for them, but if other devices such as Android or Blackberry work for you, then why not own them. :)
