They better not drop a new one every year or I’m done. I’m not gonna spend $800 every year.

I agree with this. Every 2+ years is fine with me. My iPhone is more important to upgrade frequently than the Watch for me.They better not drop a new one every year or I’m done. I’m not gonna spend $800 every year.
The Ultra added a brighter screen, larger battery, more water resistance, depth gauge, water temperature sensor, siren, titanium case, action button, and dual frequency GPS. The dual frequency GPS alone is a significant upgrade if you do running or cycling. The better screen and battery are great for hiking. The diving stuff speaks for itself. The Ultra added the siren and that's about it.
Are they really going to make a new model every year? I don’t get why this is necessary, other than those with extra income to help Apple bring in extra cash.
And I don’t mind them making a buck. But I kind of wish they had a 2 year cycle.

The health features come to every Apple Watch - that's it's thing. It's about tracking your health so you can make informed decisions. The Ultra is for people doing above average things with their Apple Watch. It does this quite well.
I can't drive my car from it, or go to space with it. So frankly, not enough! And if they release another one this year that's an incremental bump and isn't able to solve climate change on my wrist then I'm done! Raging, I tell you!But apart from all that (and BT5.3, and more granular power save options), what has the Ultra done for us?
When screen technology progresses massively. The reason AW doesn't get a week and others do is a high quality screen. Garmins and the like sacrifice hz, resolution and brightness to achieve it.Ok, 1 week battery life when?
Making it lighter and ditching the screen bezels could be great in reducing its bulk too.
No I also like my current Ultra. I am large guy, large hands/wrist and it is very comfortable for me personally would not want it to be reduced at all. We of course might not be in minority LOLPersonally the weight and size is just right for me.
If they reduce those a little bit that would be ok, but if it's a lot I'd prefer that be a new category and keep this one around.
I may be in the minority.
I loved mine from day one also @StaceyMJ86 have no problem at all with it. One day when I have to upgrade I will get the next full sized ultra not a smaller reduced one if one is madeI have 0 issues with the size and weight of the Ultra. I got used to it pretty quickly, and have no problem with wearing it at night to track my sleep. If the next Ultra is lighter or even smaller, I would only trade in to get another Ultra first generation so that I can make sure this one have AppleCare+ which I thought I already had.
I would love those features as well.To make it more appealing, they would need to make it thinner and reduce the bezels.
But, to me, much more importantly than these, they need to add Health Features.
We didn't get any in Series 7, and in Series 8 we have a temperature sensor which is only useful for women, and the car accident sensor which is great, but if everything goes well, you're not supposed to use it. The Ultra added the siren and that's about it.
MacRumors were talking about Rockley Photoni s introducing a "clinic on the wrist" in 2021. It would monitor core body temperature, blood pressure, body hydration, alcohol, lactate, and glucose trends. Now THAT I would definitely pay for.
The current AWU absolutely rocks for me; 3x as good as my two previous AW. I cannot visualize any improvements that might make me want some newer version, but we will see.
This year's new Apple Watch Ultra will be lighter than the current model, according to a rumor posted on Chinese social media site Weibo.

The user, known as "Setsuna Digital" or "Instant Digital," claims that this year's new Apple Watch Ultra will have a reduced weight compared to its predecessor. The current model weighs 61.3 grams, substantially more than the 32 grams of the 41mm aluminum Apple Watch Series 8.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently said that the second-generation Apple Watch Ultra will feature 3D-printed mechanical parts. The components could include the Digital Crown, Side Button, and Action Button, as these are the only mechanical parts of the Apple Watch Ultra. These titanium parts are currently CNC machined. It is unclear whether the 3D printing technology will assist Apple in reducing the weight of the Apple Watch Ultra, but it is expected to improve production time and reduce costs.
Setsuna Digital has provided accurate insights into Apple's plans in the past, such as their accurate claim that Apple would make the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus available in a new Yellow color option in the spring.
Apple is widely rumored to be planning to launch the second-generation Apple Watch Ultra alongside the Apple Watch Series 9 models later this year, but little is known about what upgrades the devices may feature other than a new chip based on the A15 Bionic.

Precisely, I have upgraded AW about once in every 3 years. But my Ultra gonna keep longer it has all I need.Just because there is a new model doesn't mean you need to buy it. Same goes for iPhones.
Yes the size is perfect and brighter screen is nice to have. At times I forget I have an Ultra and the size of it. I tend to keep my Apple Watches for 4 years minimum.I loved mine from day one also @StaceyMJ86 have no problem at all with it. Feel the same and there is not much that would make me spend another $800, I usually upgrade AW’s every 3 years but might stick longer with my Ultra which I just purchased this spring. Certainly not this fall way too soonThe current AWU absolutely rocks for me; 3x as good as my two previous AW. I cannot visualize any improvements that might make me want some newer version, but we will see.
Last year when I received my 14 Pro Max on launch day, I was going to upgrade annually, but after a few months of using it, I realized I’m better off going back to my 2 year upgrade cycle. It wouldn’t be feasible for me to upgrade every year, when it do not appeal to me.Precisely, I have upgraded AW about once in every 3 years. But my Ultra gonna keep longer it has all I need.
Doing same now with iUP program for iPhone .. getting off the upgrade every fall bandwagon. I love my 14 ProMax and I might get the 16 ProMax if all the camera improvements are true but going to a 2-3 year cycle on my iphone and buy whenI want to not at the crazy fall preorder madness I am done with that LOL
My cycle has been roughly 3 years, got a 3, and 6, and then they added sone sensors I wanted in the 7 so gave the 6 to a daughter and got the 7, skipped the 8 and then got ultra half year after it and 8’s were out last fall. At the price though definitely moving to at least 3 years with the Ultra LOL @StaceyMJ86Yes the size is perfect and brighter screen is nice to have. At times I forget I have an Ultra and the size of it. I tend to keep my Apple Watches for 4 years minimum.
I'll ask this again, why remove the bezels? They protect the screen, which is arguably one of more important features in the Ultra (for me, at least).
