The bezel is the gap between the edge of the display (pixels) and the edge of the physical screen. The bezel doesn't protect the screen, it's the titanium surrounding that does. Removing the bezel means having pixels closer to the titanium, it doesn't mean removing the titanium.

Ah, my bad. Thank you for the correction!

Are they really going to make a new model every year? I don’t get why this is necessary, other than those with extra income to help Apple bring in extra cash.

And I don’t mind them making a buck. But I kind of wish they had a 2 year cycle.
If you already know you're going to buy a new one every two years, why does it matter how often they refresh it?

Last year when I received my 14 Pro Max on launch day, I was going to upgrade annually, but after a few months of using it, I realized I’m better off going back to my 2 year upgrade cycle. It wouldn’t be feasible for me to upgrade every year, when it do not appeal to me.
Well as you have seen in my discussions on our group I also love my 14 ProMax and frankly nothing the 15 offers excites me I am more interested in what is coming with the 16 ProMax and some major telephoto improvements (over the 15 especially) that might work for a 2 year upgrade. I also get to keep my 14 ProMax as a backup rather than flipping it.

I suspect then the 17 will not have as major camera improvements and then I can wait til 18-19 Pro line. The iphones are plateauing in features for me personally. They add things of which I probably use 10 percent more and lot of it is seldom used. They are all blazingly fast enough so the speed arguments are loosing for me LOL.

I would say my iphone is for 2 things, portable internet device a little mini ipad if you want to call it, and then as a portable camera for most of my use. They are talking a significant telephoto capability with 16 ProMax rumors that would start to rival my DSLR 400 telephoto setup. The phone part is least important to me LOL I am not much of a phone conversationalist LOL @StaceyMJ86

Thanks for that I was getting confused as some discuss it in regards to the titanium protection which I want to keep. So no problem then for me also in this discussion. Good to know

And make it darker while you are at it. Not a fan of the silver or price for that matter

My desperate (and perhaps unrealistic) hope is that they release a smaller version. I have too many watch straps for the smaller case to make the ultra an option I'm willing to consider at the moment!
You can use a band thatʼs designed for other Apple Watch models with Apple Watch Ultra as long as the sizes are compatible. Bands for 38mm, 40mm, and 41mm cases are compatible with each other, and bands for 44mm, 45mm, and 49mm cases are compatible with each other.

One of the surprising things about the Apple Watch is even when it stops receiving new watchOS updates, its still just as functional as the day it was bought. I just can't justify a particular reason right now to upgrade from my S3. But since I will be upgrading to the iPhone 16 Pro Max next year, I will get the Ultra 3 watch to accompany it.

My cycle has been roughly 3 years, got a 3, and 6, and then they added sone sensors I wanted in the 7 so gave the 6 to a daughter and got the 7, skipped the 8 and then got ultra half year after it and 8’s were out last fall. At the price though definitely moving to at least 3 years with the Ultra LOL @StaceyMJ86
I was shocked at the $799 sticker price, so that was an automatic yes for me. I went from S2 > S4 > Ultra. If I had AppleCare+ I would definitely keep it for 4 years before upgrading again.

I don’t understand the photography terms but a great camera is an added bonus for me. With a 2 year upgrade I’m more amazed with the updated camera. I don’t think I would see any difference if I went year to year. I personally think the 16 Pro Max will be a great upgrade from the 14 Pro Max.

Apple Watch Ultra mini… Sounds like a page out of Tim’s playbook. I see no reason they wouldn’t offer this at some point.

If they can manage to make a smaller one with the same battery life, they will. Otherwise, they won‘t.

in Series 8 we have a temperature sensor which is only useful for women

It can also be useful for men. I have read multiple reports about a higher-than-usual wrist temperature being noticed before any symptoms of the sickness that was approaching (e.g. Covid).

This sounds like the safest bet to me. Apple know that a lot of folks will upgrade if they can get a black Ultra.

I don’t find my AWU too heavy. If anything it’s too thick (sleeping with it on sucks), but given the improved battery life and features, I overlook that flaw.
I won’t buy an Apple watch till the improve the battery life of the regular series... Not interested in the Ultra.

The temp sensor is great for that.

Yes, but also keep in mind that the Ultra is rated for recreational diving, so we’ll continue to see larger bezels compared to the regular AW

I would take the same weight with actually working open water swimming.

For such a high-priced watch it's a joke not being able to match 2X less expensive garmins.

"Oh you did a swimrun! Here's an award for ya!
Yes, I can track 30 minutes of breaststroke! Get one more award!

Nice job swimming 30 meters!"

FFS...

P.S. Honestly considering ditching Ultra at some point and getting garmins again.
P.P.S. If Garmin would make desktop app that is not ****, that is. :)

Why would it matter? You don't have to buy a new one each year. New Ultra buyers can have something a little bit more updated and existing Ultra users can either continue using what they have (older watches will carry on working) or they can upgrade. I'm not sure I understand the issue with annual updates.

If you already know you're going to buy a new one every two years, why does it matter how often they refresh it?

Because most importantly Apple loves to gate features behind new models not because of functionality but because they need more reasons for a "upgrade". So if they are on a two year cycle then they focus on the current device that year and not a new model.
