I've have two of the 17 Pro Max. One with G9N, the other GH3. The G9N is unquestionably brighter (by multiple shades), crisper, with deeper/richer colors. The two screens are remarkably dissimilar. No excuse for having the exact same phones with such extreme visual dissimilarity.

The GH3 is going back. No guilt here... Where's the quality control?

Imo the green shift at the bottom from GVC panels is more noticable than the pink of samsung. In general speaking ofcourse, you will have better screens than the other even with same code.
The problem is that the Samsung pink shift occurs when looking directly at the screen, while the LG blue/green shift only occurs when tilting the phone. Not the same thing.

Nothing but love for my GH3 Pro Max panel. I feel like it even looks a tad brighter and more accurate than the “better” GVC panel on my Air.👀

And I’d rather have a display that slightly shifts in color when viewed off axis than a display that has uniformity issues when viewed head on. But that’s just me.🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m at Best Buy and holy ****, my screen on my 17 Pro (G9P) looks horrible compared to the 17 Pro units on the floor with True Tone and everything else turned off!

Currently in the process of exchanging it right now for a new 17 Pro 512GB unit, wish me luck.
Sending big G9N energy your way!

No, it’s not just you. Fortunately, it seems we’re finally moving past that irrational mantra that Samsung panels are better than LG’s.

How many more Samsung panels do we need to see with uniformity issues and screens shifting to pink when viewed head-on before we finally put to rest the falsehood of ‘just keep swapping your iPhone until you get one with a Samsung panel’?

True, noticed this as well and thought it was a LG screen issue. Now the 17PM LG screen is brighter than the 17P Samsung screen. Definitely keeping this 17PM and returning the 17P. Gotta stop going down this rabbit hole at some point, now I can't stop seeing the pink tints on all my Samsung screens...
Amen to that.

And it’s such a weird narrative to me because LG has been the leader of the OLED TV market for years now… Clearly they’re both incredibly capable OEMs who make beautiful displays, which is precisely why Apple is sourcing panels from both.

Ended up getting a regular pro is cosmic orange , and screen looked very nice while setting up. Had a feeling it was going to be a good one! Better than my max, tell you that right now. I had the worse LG screen before.

True. You just have to look at forums like AVForums or AVS Forum. These aren’t casual smartphone users, but real enthusiasts who spend days and days calibrating and testing panels, and they’ve always prefer LG panels over Samsung’s.

So I returned my first Air with a GVC panel because it has a grainy screen with terrible contrast. Just purchased another and got a GVC panel again, but this screen looks so much better. No grain, and everything looks sharp. Crazy how different they are.
Interesting. What’s the best way to test if a screen is grainy or not?

My power..

But for serious, what do you think of the panel? How is it for you? I've been very happy with my G9N 17 Pro Max since I got it.
I’m going to hit up BB again tomorrow after work to compare it to some of the display units. Should be better than my G9P which was horrible.

I can already tell there’s less of a yellow hue which was really bad.

This is true. I actually have all c3 LG in the living room and a C1 in the master bedroom. Best oled tv’s I’ve own before. Weird

Compared my iPhone 17PM(Panel G9P) with spouse's iPhone 16PM(Panel GH3). Both phones are new.

I have noted following:

1. One distinct observation is, 17 PM darker than 16PM at minimum brightness and is also brighter than 16 PM at maximum brightness. So, apparently the range of brightness is more in 17PM.
2. Both panels are uniform with no color shift.
3. 17PM has slightly warmer temp(yellow) where as 16PM has a little bit more of reddish component.
4. Greys are darker is 16PM and lighter in 17PM.

Photos taken with Pixel 9 with true tone off. 16 PM on the left.

Honestly can't tell if this is bad uniformity on my new Air. I HAD to return the Pro Max because of a hissing sound from the speaker when charging. Not dealing with that. Now it seems like something is off, like I'm getting the Samsung pink stuff on the bottom of this display...

Definitely seeing the brightness gradient, most Samsung screens have this issue. Are you planning on playing the lottery again for a new screen?
