Would someone mind posting a video with a G9N while doing some small tilts on a white page. I’m trying to establish what is considered ‘normal’ behaviour for hue changes.

Decided to try again (3rd phone) and this time got a 17PM with Samsung G9P screen. Looks perfect to me, will need to put it through daily activities and nighttime where unevenness always shows. But just eyeballing it in my office with ceiling light off the uniformity looks pretty great with no disturbing off axis shift. No orange splotches etc., with night shift and TT on, but I'll have to look again tonight.

Here are my two 17PM, LG GH3 on left and Samsung G9P on right. I am not exactly holding the camera at unusual angles here, the green shift on the LG is very apparent at a slight angle that I regularly use on my desk to check emails, etc., as in the 2nd photo. Difference between panels is night and day in this regard, but when looking at them head-on they are both really great panels.

With cool lightings conditions (like in a store or bathroom around 6500K) the screen tint changes a lot and is very acceptable … it goes from yellow/green tint to a much better white/less off axis green. This using google homepage or iOS settings.

I have a LG GVC

Waiting for the folks to say that the Samsung is the bad panel

2 years ago I went to replace my 8 Plus with a 15PM. After unboxing I immediately noticed horrific tint shift with minor tilting that my “ancient” 8 Plus right next to it did not exhibit. I returned the 15PM and skipped the 16 line all together for this reason. Fast forward 2 years now I NEED to replace the 8 Plus…it’s waaaay too long in the tooth, as you might imagine. I will get a 17P; thanks to this thread at least I know that not ALL of the OLED displays suck. I guess I’ll keep visiting Apple until I get an “acceptable” 17P display.

Would you mind in normal lighting tilting the G9P phone on a white page via video? I’d like to see the hue differences.

I got a G9P in my 17PM on my first try and it’s a great panel. I also decided to give a regular Pro a try for some peace of mind and that one has the G9N. I gotta say that the PM one is marginally better: it’s more uniform and at the minimum brightness the G9N looks a bit more reddish. Both panels don’t have any green shift of any kind, just some regular dimming at extreme angles.

I have no idea how to attach videos here. I used to use imgur back in the day to link various photos but I'm not sure that will even work.

Does this panel manufacturer check work/relevant for iPhone 12 Pro Max?

I checked my new 17 Pro Max which yields GVC panel. I been running my iPhones in Dark Mode only so I don’t see green tint. I tried a white browser screen and tilted the phone bottom away and maybe slight tint. All my apps run in dark mode except Costco app.

OK, I tried my best, took a video of both panels for comparison. My office is warmly lit so that may be a factor and I wouldn't rely on my videos when comparing your screen(s). For what it's worth, links below:

Now that it’s darker outside I’ve used the phone in dimmer environments. If I nitpick the white uniformity is very slightly uneven l. And that’s if I really look for it, if I use the phone normally it looks perfect. No obvious uniformity issue with TT or night shift. There’s zero off axis color shift.

I have 2 more weeks to keep my original LG 17PM, will keep comparing, but the viewing angles are just so much better on the G9P.

Looks like a decent G9P and a bad GH3. My wife's GH3 17PM looks nothing like that fortunately, phew.

if you prefer aspects to LG aside from the gradient, I might try my hand one more time (or two).

Not good quality videos haha, I wouldn’t put much weight on them. The green shift on the GH3 isn’t nearly as bad as others I’ve had. The G9P panel is pretty great and only slight uniformity unevenness if I really look for it. Far better than most Samsung panels I’ve had including the 16PM with G9N that I kept last year. Like you I’ve seen so many of these I can tell Samsung vs LG the moment I see the Apple logo on boot.

I am definitely not doing this nonsense beyond 3 attempts, it isn’t worth it and I know from my experience I won’t get better panels than what I have here from either panel supplier.

Unfortunately the one I had (17 PM 512 GB DB) had the GH3, which I thought was perfect but unfortunately had some uneven whites 1/3 to the left and it's been bugging me including my eyes. Luckily Apple Store near me yesterday had the same model in stock (likely a cancellation or something) so I quickly snagged it. Unfortunately it's still has GH3 but more uniform than the previous one I had. I'm done with this screen lottery.

My Air (I don't know which panel I have) has a nice white, even screen but does have a slight green tint at the bottom when tilted towards me. I'm happy with the phone and can live with the screen since I won't really see the tint most of the time. No way would I return the phone for this, particularly with all the trouble I had setting it up with Xfinity. I'm not one of those who don't notice bad panels - I have returned many phones, iPads and computers in the past because of screens that were yellow or uneven.
