I took a few pictures of mine, and it’s funny how they don’t really capture the slight pink tint at the top of the screen.
I had trouble capturing my screen colours too, using a mirrorless camera. I wondered if the larger aperture (than my eye) affected things, or maybe some kind of polarising effect. Strange.

My iPhone camera got it, albeit auto-white-balancing toward magenta (compensating for the green screen).

This is already my second replacement, so I’m not sure if I should go for a third one or just live with it and stick to dark mode, haha.
FWIW, I’d kill for that screen.

Yeah I’m going to go out on a limb and say there is no “better manufacturer”. In my last comment i stated both my 13PM and now 17PM have G9N displays and I stand by my comment in saying the 13PM had a drastically better display. Uniformity seems good on this display but every time I go back to the 13PM i get annoyed at how much better the brightness and lack of color shift is. My fiancee has a 16P with the GVC panel and it looks a lot better as well. I say don’t even bother looking at the manufacturer and go by what looks good to your eyes.

I actually had 2 iPhone Airs, both 256gb, one was blue, other gold ("Make new friends, but keep the old. One is blue and the other's gold!") both had G9Qs and both looked good.

Gold is my current phone and cannot detect any off axis color, just some slight dimming which is expected. They were purchased about a week apart at different stores both in Chicago suburb areas.

I also had a 13PM with the G9N for 4 years. It was a good screen, albeit far from perfect. However, my 17PM with the G9P and a regular Pro with the G9N that I tried for a week are both better than the 13PM: both are significantly brighter and punchier. So it’s literally just a lottery even between the same type of panels with the same serial number.

What storage and color Pro Max? I’ve just ordered a 1TB Silver and I’m praying I get a good display…

Well the 13PM was rated maximum brightness of 1200 nit, while 17PM is 3000 nit. Different generation of panel tech.

Yeah something is up with the one I got then. My 4 year old 13PM is brighter indoors than the 17PM is for me. Might try getting a replacement.

I had to do an Express Replacement on mine, and I’m thinking about doing it again. Does anyone know if there’s a limit, or if Apple allows back-to-back Express Replacements?

TBH, after changing my screen protector the tint and image is much better.

Switched from 8€ ESR to Spigen. Much clearer picture. So please keep this in mind aswell.

Are you paying out of pocket for each?

I had an air with the Samsung panel, not the best one, but second most preferred. G9Q I believe. It was pinkish, but all uniform and not an issue. The phone on the other hand I did not like and returned. I have a 16pm and considered a 17pm, the display models had terrible color shifts like this thread shows, oddly the no max displays were all fine. I skipped it, not worth going through it.

So a panel that looks pinkish all the time is “not an issue”, but a color shift that occurs only off-axis is considered “terrible.”

I’m going to lose my mind here.

I’m going to lose my mine here.
I’d take a uniform panel over one that shifts pink on top and green on the bottom when holding normally and using any day. Much less distracting imo. My 16PM doesn’t have either, no reddish tint, no weird color shifting, so that’s what I would hope I could expect from a new purchase. I found out after reading this thread and checking, that my 16PM is G9N, which didn’t surprise me, based on the overwhelming consensus from this thread, the G9N is a solid panel with minimal issues. I’m unsure why the other parts cannot meet the same standard. The vast majority of people never notice this stuff or care anyways, so to Apple it’s a non issue.

I believe the general consensus is that G9Ns are pink tinted, and there are here numerous cases of this issue. G9Qs also experience this problem.

The funny thing is that ever since all those G9N/G9Q units with issues came to light — and it’s now almost impossible to deny that they have a pink tint problem — since it can’t be denied, the new narrative is that the pink tint “isn’t that big of a deal.”

I want to keep my mental health intact, so this will truly be my last message in this thread.

Stopped by the Apple Store after work. Was almost immediately able to tell which phones has the G9N as they all had color shift when i tilted them. Guess they all have it. Was hoping mine was a lemon. Oh well, will hopefully get use to it.

The confirmation bias in this thread is pretty breathtaking. Wait till folks hear that G9N panels aren't even made by Samsung.
