I believe the general consensus is that G9Ns are pink tinted, and there are here numerous cases of this issue. G9Qs also experience this problem.

The funny thing is that ever since all those G9N/G9Q units with issues came to light — and it’s now almost impossible to deny that they have a pink tint problem — since it can’t be denied, the new narrative is that the pink tint “isn’t that big of a deal.”

I want to keep my mental health intact, so this will truly be my last message in this thread.
Believe it or not, my 16PM does not have a pink hue at all and I am definitely someone who can spot it, I won’t even get started on my recent MacBook Pro 14 journey. But I agree with your point, I didn’t like pink panels in the past or want to settle for them, but as you sorta said, it’s now considered the lesser of two evils so being excused in light of half green half pink panels from LG. I really would like to give the 17PM a shot, but after seeing the display models, I was immediately turned off of them.

Would make sense for you to read the comment that I was replying to.
It sounded like the guy you replying to saying 13PM has brighter screen and you said your 17PM has brighter screen so it’s just lottery. But 17PM has much better spec. When it comes to brightness, it’s not just lottery.

The problem is that Apple is saving users from their own incompetence by preventing access to the full 3000 nits where it is not needed.

So you have to go outside on a bright day to see the full brightness (and briefly before it overheats).

People seem very confused about this, which is partly Apple’s fault for not making it clearer.

The point is the lottery is between the 17 models.

Hey! I have very strange problem with tinting. It can be bug? What do you know about it? youtube.com/shorts/qGKQcBACOG8?si=6LbtKHi7C4zzNcfW like this.

When I see a photo or video for a second and go out, it can become normal for about 20 seconds and then return to that state again, with Night Shift the display looks swampy or green, without it it's not visible, but when i see instagram content and go out to the home screen it also become for normal tint for a 20 second or until i click on screen. Without night shift and tru tone my screen don't have green tint.Idk it can be softare issue. On youtube human had this problem on ios 18.2. Idk it can be softare issue. Look at keybord. I've never had this happen in six months.I suppose i've noticed it when update on ios 26 idk. HELP PLEASE.

I had to do an Express Replacement on mine, and I’m thinking about doing it again. Does anyone know if there’s a limit, or if Apple allows back-to-back Express Replacements?
I’m tempted to try an express replacement as I would have some time to compare the 2 devices. Do you know if, say you’re not satisfied with the replacement, you can send the replacement back and keep the original? I know there is probably better out there but I imagine I could get a worse display as well.

stopped by an apple partner store, 3 models having GVC panels, and all their GVC are not the same. The PM brightness is least intense, with mild green tint at the 30% bottom half when doing the inward tilt, but perfect uniformity, warm color temps when tilting left/right and bottoms up.

The Air green tint is the worse, even a slight inward move, 80% of the screen looks green, but it has the brightest intensity.

The base has the least green tint, just a smudge 10% bottom. It has best contrasty colors and pop-out grey scale. If i didnt check the IOReg panel, i would have thought it was a G9N.

Done with 100% brightness, auto brightness off, true tone off, light mode.

So I just picked up another 512 GB iPhone 17 Pro max DB this morning, this one has the GVC and no green tint even on off axis and is a beaut. While other one I had was GH3 (256 GG DB Pro max), I had to return it as I needed a bit more space on my device. I have yet to see the Pro maxes (256 GB or 512) with a Samsung screen. Based on this thread is it 85% or so of the pro maxes are the LG panels installed?

Either way, I'm done with this lottery and will stick to this one.

Also tried one more time with 17PM and got GH3 screen. Amazingly it has the least amount of green tint off-axis I've seen yet from LG panels. More importantly it is perfectly uniform. Done here too. To make things easier in the future, throw away the retail box and there's no way you can return the phone.

the kids have two 16PM G9N bought in september/october 2024 with perfect displays, then I bought a 16PM for myself in Mai 2025 and immediately was irritated by the green hue of the display at the slightest angles. Swapped four times and got always GH3.. then I gave up, returned the green monster and decided to wait for the 17PM

Now that the 17PM is available bought the 17PM and got already three blue 17PM 256GB LG GH3 ... returned them all. Yesterday I got now the fourth and this time its a GVC ... maybe its a bit better but still horrible green off axis tinting... since I am loosing confidence in my luck in getting a Samsung panel I will keep that one now... None of the kids wanted to exchange their 16PM phones with my 17PM when they saw the green tint ... They know about the better cameras, more battery and ram, but still display quality seems to be more important to them.

I think I’ll be a little upset if I get really awful green tinting on the 1TB Pro Max I pick up today, but I’m not going to use that as grounds to return it. I almost ordered another 256GB PM at a different store as a backup, but I can’t imagine I’d want to find out if that one isn’t good either. Not screen-wise but having fit and finish issues.

I think that it’s not a very good idea to throw away the box to prevent yourself from returning the phone, as you may need the Serial Number or IMEI without access to the phone itself, but rather reminding yourself that no matter how many you buy, you could still get a Samsung panel that sucks or you could get one with even worse tinting off-axis.

I feel your pain. Is your GVC screen at least uniform when viewing straight on? My other 17PM with Samsung G9P screen is very slightly uneven when looking straight on which annoyed me. Most people wouldn't notice but I work with documents and white backgrounds most of my days and I can't unsee it.

I'm keeping my GH3 17PM. Still within my return window on the other one. I sold a prior 17PM that I didn't care for on Swappa rather than return it. If you want to be done with the screen lottery I'd be happy to sell you my 17PM 256gb silver with the G9P screen. Message me privately if you're interested, we can go through Swappa if you want to play it safe.

Honestly just keep the one that is the most uniform and be done with it. You're not going to find a 17PM without any green off-axis tint, pink tint, or slightly uneven uniformity.

I had a terrible GH3, and my replacement is a G9P. The screen is great. Curious, what do you like better about your GH3? I know there are good GH3's out there.

My G9Q Air is actually very uniform and has no off-axis tint or even pink tint that I can see, but I’m still in search of a Pro Max for video projects, also I just kind of want both so I can switch the eSIM as I please.

The GVC I had on my first PM, I thought was very uniform but the left side of the display was a different hue/warmth than the right side and I could definitely notice that. Way worse than any differences across the screen vertically, because you can see it all the time when reading anything.

The great display on the Air has definitely spoiled me though, in terms of not wanting any tinting off-axis. But if I can’t get a good Pro Max, or I just find it too cumbersome compared to this Air, I will just use the Air full time until the 20th anniversary iPhone. I really value having a spare phone though because not having one when my 13 Pro got water damaged was not fun.

Uniformity is always priority #1 for me. I'm sure they exist but I've yet to get a truly uniform Samsung panel. My current G9P is as good as I've had with only the slight unevenness with the bottom 1/3 of the screen.

It always seems to be quite difficult to get an even screen on the Max……and Lordy is that thing a brick. Why not just go standard Pro and have a phone that is more manageable? I found the Air to Pro unpleasant, can’t image the Max to be fun at all size and weight wise.
I totally thought about that too, but honestly I can’t go back down to the screen size on the Pro after getting the Air. Even 6.3” seems so small now after using both of these for even a couple of weeks. In a weird way, I also think I will enjoy the weight contrast between Air and Pro Max when I use each one for their respective advantages.

Hi everyone, UK folks — quick question about buying a phone on Barclays finance…

If I open the phone and the screen tint bothers me (too green, pink, etc.), can I exchange it? I know I might be able to return it, but does finance change that? How does it work in practice?

I’m aiming for an iPhone 17 Pro Max — it’ll be my first iPhone, thanks

Yeah, I can see the argument for that, I’ve got the Pro and a Z Flip 7 for contrast. The screens on all the Samsung folders I’ve had (5 in total) have all been perfectly uniform!

Let see what screens you guys have.

I have a LG screen (GVC) on my 17 pro max and has a bad case of screen (green) tinting when moving the bottom of the screen away from my face. Also it has a greenish tint overall when facing straight to my face.
It could be because my 13 pro max is 4 years old and has cumulative 1000’s of hours of screen on time (blue pixels degrade the fastest and red will be more dominant). Colours look somewhat washed out too. Coming from a 13 pro max, which had a perfect screen with better colours, it’s a little disappointing.

Is the lottery a thing again with this generation?

copy / pasted the following from reddit and worked for me:

For those wondering how to check your display manufacturer...

You can run sysdiagnose on your phone (press volume up, volume down, and lock button) all together for around a second. You will feel the phone vibrate.

Wait a couple of minutes and then go to Settings -> Privacy and Security -> Analytics and Improvements -> Analytics Data.

You will then scroll down and look for a file titled: sysdiagnose_XXXXXXXX.

You will click on that file and then click the arrow in the upper right hand corner and scroll down and click “Save to Files” Once it is saved you will go into your files and click the file to unpack it.

Within the folder that is unpacked you will click on the folder “ioreg” and then click the file “IODeviceTree”.

You will then use the magnifying search glass in the bottom right hand corner to search “raw-panel”. It will then give you a serial number.

I have an LG display which has the beginning letters of GH3.

GVC is the best of the LG panels but not as good as Samsung’s best which is the G9N.

The top 3 panels are:

• Samsung G9N • Samsung G9Q • LG GVC

The worst panel is LG GH3.”
This thread could benefit from a poll, please consider adding one.
