Hate that I got mine from ATT, not only they rarely have the phones in stock, they charge $50 for a restocking fee
That’s why I will never buy an iPhone from a carrier. I’ve only done it directly at Apple. I just got a 17PM Dark Blue and it’s the very first time since probably my very first iPhone (3GS) that I don’t have to return it for whatever reason. In the past, the screen lottery was really bad for me.

Yeah I think after this phone, I’m buying it straight from apple.

Even tho I got a perfect G9N screen on the 17 Pro, I still am gravitating towards returning it and keeping the GVC Air despite not having the best screen. It’s just too nice to hold and the 17 Pro feels awful to me in the hand. The Air has spoiled me. Now if only there was a G9N Air, I’d be the happiest. Might try a few more times to get a G9N on the Air.
I have a 17 Pro with a G9N and I’ve been tempted to buy an Air but I’ll only keep it if I get a G9Q or better.

This is correct, just a matter of finding a store with the model in stock
The issue is gonna be for me and others if they don’t have phones in stock and or if it’s going to take two or three weeks to get a Phone through the mail your 14 day return will be over before the new phone would actually arrive in which case you wouldn’t have any phone for any significant amount of time.

Unfortunately it looks like getting a samsung panel on the iphone air is near impossible. Almost everyone has GVC.
Yes it’s pretty much a unicorn. Not sure if it’s worth the trouble of continuing to try. I might try one more time in the next week or so to try my luck but it’s pretty much guaranteed to be a GVC.

Sigh.

iPhone 17: GVC - Worst of the bunch. I could see the green tint on the slightest of tilt.
iPhone Air: GVC - Better than the iPhone 17 but still noticeable.
iPhone 17 Pro: G9N - Barely a change in color when tilting. Very consistent screen color and looks great.

The base iPhone 17 is my favorite form factor of the three but I noticed the screen right away and it drove me crazy. I guess I'm sticking with the Pro because I don't want to have to keep exchanging to find the right screen.

I feel the same way about my 17 Pro. Will probably return it and settle with my GH3 PM. Having a pop socket kinda changed my opinion about the size and definitely prefer the larger screen.

People are not imagining it.

That’s why I’m hesitant to try a different one. Mine has a slight blue/green tint at the bottom, similar to the third picture, but it’s nowhere near as bad as it looks there. I’m just worried that if I switch headsets, I might end up with one that looks like that.

So far I have had 2 17 PM, both blue, both GH3, and both immediate PWM triggering even with setting turned on. Also the display just oozes saturation, almost like the HDR feature or whatever is in over drive.

My 14 Pro has a g9n panel as was my 15 pro Max (unfortunately lost this one), and neither of these impacted me like the LG displays. Currently using the 14 pro and really wanting to upgrade, but this screen lottery thing really sucks.

I definitely think the samsung panel and LG panel handle PWM differently and you can tell immediately.

Really want a Pro Max, but it seems they are mostly LG panels.

17 Pro Max here in Dark Blue and my panel is G9P, so they’re not all LG panels.

I usually do a quick test in a dark room with low brightness, True Tone, night shift, grey background etc when I get a new phone.

I wasn’t scrutinising my devices like that by default, but I’ve had some bad luck in the past where I’ll just notice the colour shifts and unevenness during normal use.

My Air is perfectly even, so I’m petty happy with that.

I’ve only ever had two bad phones. An absolutely atrocious OnePlus 5T and a pretty bad 14 Pro Max. In fact my nightmare support experience with that OnePlus device is what sealed my permanent move to Apple. I’m only buying phones from companies with a local presence who back their products with return policies.

I would honestly keep that. Looks pretty much perfect to me. I almost guarantee you’re not going to get a better one even if you return 10 times.

how do you post photos? Can I attach directly from my phone?

From Australia here.

My launch model 17 Pro Max, 256GB, Silver has a GVC panel. If it tilt it extremely angled towards me, there is a very slight tinge of green at the bottom. But then again, I never noticed it until I read this thread.

I went around the house and checked some other devices I had laying around:

XS - FXR (no idea which manufacture this is)
Feels like it generally has a red tint, burn in from the home bar and dimmer than the rest
Age context: (oldest phone, I got it second hand and previous owner already changed the battery once)

12 mini - G9Q (Samsung)
Quite nice and bright, if I tilt it, there is a blue cast and the centre of the display is darker than the border
Age context: I bought this new and sealed as a spare phone, only used a few months before

12 - GVC (LG)
I cannot see any imperfections at all on this display
Age context: I got this second hand in Japan, I don’t believe the device has ever been serviced before, still on original battery

Images from left to right:

3. 12 mini

My partner’s Cosmic Orange is in the same configuration as me and bought at the same time so I will check when they come home.

Crazy 12 mini is better than your pro max
