My iPhone 6 still works like a champ so I have no overwhelming desire to trade up. The ONLY thing that has me looking at the X is the much better camera.

My 7 is still working great. I can't justify spending $1000 on a new phone when my current one is still working like new, even though I'm craving a larger screen and battery. I'd also like to wait for a plus sized version of the X.

It’s too small. I will buy when it’s the overall size of the 8 Plus. It’s a iPhone 8 replacement, not an iPhone 8 Plus replacement.

It's only like 1% difference in screen area. I am coming from a Plus and looking forward to the size. You just prefer a phone with the overall dimensions of the Plus? The X Plus next year will likely be smaller also.

I did buy an 8+. I will wait and see on the X but mostly because I want to get the next gen. I also am weighing whether or not its worth the cost. I always remember the 4s vs the 4. When I got the 6s after having the 6 I decided to just do S versions of the iPhone. To me the 8 is like a 7s. I can only imagine that the Xs or whatever its called will be a nice improvement over the X. I can wait at this point. My current phone is more than capable of handling my needs.

I'm currently using 6 plus but I find the size too big sometime, I think X is preface for my hand and pocket.

Writing this on my 8+.

The X feels like a 1st gen product to me from what I’ve seen. Not a fan of the notch, but I think I could get used to it in portrait mode. Problem is, I do like using my phone in landscape mode from time to time (especially watching YouTube) and the way the notch is handled there borders on disastrous. I’m sure it’ll get there by iOS 12. Apps also need to be updated. In my experience, that takes about a year to get everything going. Still, that’s basically a year of me paying to be a beta tester.

Then there’s the issue that the X is really not a plus sized phone. It’s a stretched 6/7/8. While the screen is technically bigger than the plus on paper, it’s misleading. The X behaves like a 6/7/8 where apps are concerned. A lot of that lovely OLED display is lost due to corners, the notch and the virtual home button. The screen doesn’t have the width of the plus either. I watch a lot of 16:9 content and for that, the plus is superior.

As for the rest, I don’t care about bezels. I know, heresy in this day and age, but I really don’t. Face- or touchID - it’s the same to me. I consider it a side grade, not an up- or downgrade.

Bottom line is, the X isn’t really an upgrade over the 8+ in my eyes. The 8 on the other hand? Hell yeah! Big improvement. But I’m a 100% plus user and the X just feels like I’d be paying more for less. Not a good deal. If Apple introduces a plus sized X+1 next year, then I might be tempted to upgrade earlier than I would normally do. We shall see.

If you are happy with your current phone, that is fine and all. I can honestly live with an 8 and be very happy, but this is something totally different from Apple, and I have been waiting for a change. Thankfully I can afford it, so why the heck not.

Next year I do not think there will be a big change, so I can use the X for 2 years for $1000, I think that is a pretty decent deal considering I can get at least $4-500 back out of it when I get something new.

Two days ago, I would've said I'm not getting iPhone X because of price. All my credit cards are maxed out and couldn't afford it outright.

And yes, it does feel First Gen of a new product and rushed. It does seem heavy on price and light on differentiating features. The design is nice but not one of my favorites. The 4/5 series still look better.

Then everything changed after this...

"Although there was clearly demand for the un-activated iPhone X, selling it that way cost more money, causing some confusion with our customers and noise in the media,” a Best Buy spokeswoman told Bloomberg. “That’s why we decided a few days ago to only sell the phone the traditional way, through installment billing plans.”

Back in the game. Getting the X. Read rumors two years ago about this codename Ferrari. Only one more day. It's like waiting for Star Wars for two years only not to watch it in the theaters once released. We've gotten this far. Might as well go all-in.

I am going to get an Android on my next upgrade anyway...

2017 - iPhone X
2019 - Pixel 4

I'm waiting for next version, happy with the 8+ even though i have been waiting for a smaller iPhone with a larger screen then on the plus models. Plus waiting for the faceID improvements for next version.

How is it totally different? I saw Lester Holt describe the iPhone X as groundbreaking yet I can't really think of anything groundbreaking about it.

I chose the iPhone 8 Plus instead. The notch and 1st iteration of Face ID did it for me. Honestly, I hate getting burned with 1st gen Apple devices. They almost always have some major compromise that is fixed in the S/2nd version.

The X is just unproven to me. The barrier to entry is very high for what benefit? It still runs iOS.

Same here. I've always had first gen Apple tech, and by the time the 2nd gen comes around a year later, my device always feels like such a crusty old thing. The 8 Plus feels like the ultimate statement of the 6's vision, refined to perfection, the end of a journey. The X is a beginning of another, and with it, there will be huge leaps between generations.

I have one coming tomorrow so maybe in hand my opinion will change. But as of now, compared to my 8 Plus:

- without using Face ID I question its convenience. You have to be within a certain angle for it to activate. With Touch ID my phone can be anywhere, lying flat, and a simple touch let’s me in to glance.

- a smaller more narrow keyboard doesn’t appeal to my large hands

- I question the notch in portrait mode in certain situations. While this picture is funny, it is also a legitimate situation

- I watch a lot of video on my phone in landscape mode. The letterboxing in this example, so as to avoid the notch, makes this even smaller than what would fill the 4.7" screen given the similar width of the screens to begin with
image3.png

- And if you choose to zoom in order to avoid the letterboxing while watching video, content is cropped by the rounded corners as well as hidden behind the notch
image7.png

- While I realize that apps will eventually be optimized for this new aspect ratio, I remember how it was in the past. Some apps took a year or more. Others never even bothered. This example shows how tiny the content is when not optimized.

Those are the primary reasons why I think I will likely stay with my 8 plus. Yeah, the design is dated. Yeah, it has a huge forehead and chin. But I use my phone for content not for looks. I enjoy the extra width to make things like searching pictures (thumbnails in the photo galleries) easier. I remember going from the 4S to the 5. Basically, the 5 was an elongated 4S. Looks like a similar situation here only you will get an OLED display that is narrow and hampered by a notch vs letter boxing. I am excited for all of those who cannot wait to get this phone. I hope everyone who gets it, loves the hell out of it. I am not trying to hate. I just see many things that make it seem like a downgrade from my plus and if anything, I really question how in two years of planning (according to Ive), this is the best they could come up with.

No need for an X yet. My SE runs great, and my wife wants an 8 Plus to replace her 5C.

Maaaaaaaybe I'll get an X while we're flush with cash, and I could further justify it by rightly saying that I don't have to carry a phone all the time anymore (meaning that I don't prefer the smaller SE as much as I used to).

But to answer today? I'm not going to buy one.

But if I get to play with one in-store and fall head over heels...

I'm perfectly happy with my two current devices - an SE and BlackBerry DTEK60. Both perform admirably and suit my needs perfectly.

I would rather keep the $1,500 or so CDN a 64gb X costs in Canada (taxes in).

Also, I do not like the X's design, especially its very strange screen aspect ratio.

I forgot to add...

Too. much. money.

Especially when the iPhone SE is on sale at Best Buy for $150. It's insane the amount of value you get for as little as that.

1) Price to value didn’t line up with the 8 Plus offering practically the same internals save for a few features.
2) The change in the viewing experience vs the Plus versions.
3) Waiting for shakeout and developments - things like in-depth reviews of FaceID, especially at various angles, any hardware issues, and new software development to take advantage of the new tech, such as AR.
4) Waiting to see if there will be a Plus version.

Not getting the X due to smaller keyboard. Not willing to give up my 8+ keyboard for what the X offers.
I hope they come out with a Plus size next year otherwise I don't think I will be able to stand that smaller screen after a year.

I got the Verizon $650 trade-in credit when I bought my 7 Plus last year. I’m getting a $28 credit on my bill each month through October, 2018. Upgrading to the X now would make me lose that credit, and I would have a bigger monthly bill and payoff. My jet black 7 Plus is in perfect shape and does everything I NEED a phone to do and more, and still looks great. The tiny screen size increase on the X is not worth the upgrade from the Plus. Now, having said that, if there is an X Or XI Plus next fall, when I have gotten most of my monthly credits, and if there is a decent upgrade promo from Verizon, I will probably be all over that. But it just doesn’t make sense for me to upgrade now.
