It's funny all the people who stated that the 4S was the worst thing Apple could ever do, say they're going to Android, and then get the iPhone 4S anyway....

Pretty obnoxious actually.

@ 12:20 am PST I went to the Apple site and it was down. I then went to the VZW site and it also down. I refreshed the VZW site and I was able to place my order for a iPhone 4S Blk 16GB. I received my email confirmation 3 hours later saying my order is shipped to receive on October 14th.:D

Yes... When the iP4S rumors were abound I started getting disappointed. I really wanted to see a slick new design. Even with the minor upgrades, a physical redesign was my primary focus. But after I watched the live blogs and kept refreshing through the photos I knew I was hooked. Not because I think the iP4S is anything truly special, but because I've owned every other iPhone on launch... Even embarrassing records are records worth keeping!

Yes, I played the usual 'oh I'm not getting this one' game with myself. It never works and I always get the newest model. It's a sickness, really.

Is everyone forgetting about the next iPhone? The one that wil likely come out next summer or next October? I won't waste my upgrade on this. I look forward to seeing all of the threads complaining about how some of you aren't eligible for a discount because you took advantage of the 4S and feel your carrier owes you.

Only reason I'd do it would be for the 64 GB but there is no way on earth I would pay $400 for what is very close to the phone I already have.

I was unsure if I was going to buy the 4S because I wasn't eligible, because I wanted to be able to get the I5 whenever it comes out, and because all i really want is iOS5. But I make up my mid at about 11 pm 10/06. i realized that: a)I hate AT&T, b) My battery has been really bad lately on my I4, c)I really want the features that the 4S has, and d) I want it in white :D

I said I would get it regardless of a redesign or not and then started to have second thoughts but then after I saw the keynote I realized how useful Siri would be for me plus I've owned an Android before and the "assistant app" they have is not nearly as smart as Siri.

I did not. I looked at what new things the 4s brought to the table and decided Siri and a better camera weren't worth the early upgrade fee. I rarely take pictures, and had the Siri app on my iPhone 4 and used it like 3 times, and only as a novelty to show people.

Now I'll be fully upgrade eligible for the 5, when hopefully it'll be worth my while to upgrade.

i was leaning yes and no ever sense they announced it, but when mr. jobs died I just felt it was necessary, wanted to have another one of his great creations

I was going to use my moms upgrade, but my husband convinced me to wait and let her get a new phone. I may still purchase it at my upgrade time or see how close we are to the next launch. I can upgrade in March.

If I had an upgrade, I would buy it for the new camera alone.

if i had the iphone 4, i probably wouldn't have gone to 4s

but i've had every iphone before the 4, since the first one. i switched to android and have enjoyed it thoroughly. but i was due for an upgrade and i said "what the hell, why not?"

i will probably toggle back and forth between the IP4s and the android device i have depending on my moods ;)

Sigh.. I said no, wife and son watched keynote and said "hell yes!!!". can't survive with them with a 4S and me a 4, so we are all getting one, and miss 12 year old is getting my old iPhone 4

I went thru the order process on Apple.com about 5 times, lol. In the end I decided not to order one, it was just too incremental an upgrade for me and I was really hoping they would ditch the ugly iphone4 design and go back to more of a 3gs type of design as rumored. I may also go Android just to test it out but 99.9% I'll switch back with the iphone 5 hopefully next year.

When I was 12 (1997), my parents gave me Hamburger Helper, that's about it. i wish my parents gave me a freaking iPhone.

i initially wanted to preorder, but after finding out that att got greedy with its yearly upgrades on iphones, i decided to wait until the next version.

Nope. Nothing was really compelling enough to pre order.

I'll wait and see what the reviews are for a few weeks.

I thought about that. The early upgrade cost for me was about $200 out of pocket ($749 full retail minus $200 AT&T partial discount for early upgrade minus $350 eBay value of my iPhone 4).

But I upgraded, because:

  • Siri will literally make me safer on the road. I don't text while driving or do anything stupid, but I still need traffic info and get texts that I'd like to respond to. I sometimes take long drives for work and need to communicate with people during the drive. Siri will be highly useful for this purpose.
  • The camera will be much better. I read a hands-on review from the Apple Event (sorry, can't remember which) where he took an indoor photo with his 4 and the 4S at the same time and saw a "substantial" difference in low-light performance. That, plus the camera speed, will allow me to capture much better shots of my 3 year old and pick up more of the great (and fleeting) moments.
I could have waited a year for the 5, but $200 to get these features now and get 12 additional months of use out of them (vs waiting) was a no-brainer for me.

I did even though I had said that I wouldn't! :p But, I used my dad's upgrade eligibility (after he told me that he was eligible). He's getting my 4. I will keep my eligibility intact for later. :)

I never told myself that. Sure I was upset about the announcement, but I knew damn well I'd be up 5 minutes before launch ready to pre-order, regardless of what it offered/lacked. :p
